"I am an orphan."

"What material is your wand made of?"

  "Made of wood."

  Are you male or female?

  "A man..."

  Do you like boys?

  "?"

Morris looked up and saw that the person asking the question was a sweet-looking older girl.

He couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth.

Honestly, is it serious to ask a first-year student this kind of question?

  Indeed, appearances can be deceiving.

After dealing with the group of curious students, Morris climbed the stairs and entered dormitory number seven.

This is a quarter-circular room with four four-poster beds with curtains evenly spaced along the curved walls, next to four huge arched windows.

In addition, there are two long desks, a mirror, a clothes rack, and four large cabinets.

As Robert said, it was a four-person dormitory room.

However, Maurice is currently using this room alone.

What a luxurious and sinful space.

One of the beds was already covered with white sheets, and his suitcase stood quietly at the foot of the bed.

Morris walked to the window and looked outside.

The Black Lake shimmered in the twilight, and the moon was clearly visible, making for a rather pleasant scene.

He then opened his suitcase and began packing his few personal belongings.

After everything was settled, he suddenly realized a problem:

  Where is his cat?

Just then, a commotion came from outside the window.

Morris stepped forward and opened the window, only to find two dark shadows flying into the room in an instant.

A jet-black owl is holding a similarly jet-black cat in its talons.

The cat was writhing angrily and hissing in discontent. But unfortunately, the owl's talons had its grip firmly on the scruff of its neck, and it could do nothing.

  Where did you go?

Clearly, these are his pets—canned food and fireworks.

Fireworks casually tossed the can onto the carpet, let out a cry, then turned and disappeared into Maurice's shadow—after flying around with the silly cat, it now needed to replenish its energy.

The canned food bared its teeth at Maurice's shadow, and after a fit of impotent rage, it finally turned into a pitiful whimper, rolling around on the ground.

It was just taking a walk outside when suddenly a bird of prey snatched it up into the sky and carried it around the entire Hogwarts.

  This is pure revenge!

  But that's not important.

  The important thing is...

  It glanced at Maurice's shadow.

  That's unfair! That's unfair!

As a pet, why doesn't it have the special ability to enter the shadows?

  Blatant favoritism!

It seems they don't get along well, Morris thought.

He crouched down, gently rubbed the can's head, and comforted it for a while.

After the cat calmed down, he changed into his pajamas, climbed into bed, and fell into a deep sleep.

Chapter 26 The Gate to Two Realms

Although there was no alarm clock, Maurice's good sleep habits made him wake up very early.

After washing up, he glanced at the clock on the wall; it was only six o'clock. Breakfast at Hogwarts was at seven-thirty, so he had plenty of time to himself.

The canned food was nowhere to be found; it must have slipped out the window.

Morris wasn't too worried about it. Although his cat was mischievous and playful, it was very clever and always managed to find its way home.

So what should he do on his first morning at Hogwarts?

"The Book of the Dharma Master".

As he meditated, the Book of the Mage slowly emerged in his mind.

As usual, he checked the contents of the book.

But today, a brand new chapter has appeared on the pages.

  "The Gate Between Two Worlds?"

The name has an inexplicable strangeness to it, sounding like some kind of passage or door.

The description above consists of only one line: It allows entry into the gap between life and death.

The specific content is a magic circle diagram, somewhat similar to a magic circle for converting undead creatures, except that the runes in the center are different.

The most striking detail is the final warning: the Two Realms Door must be used while the user is dead.

Upon seeing this, Maurice unconsciously frowned.

Use it while dead? That doesn't sound good.

He was a mage who studied the undead, but he had no intention of becoming an undead himself.

He didn't want to give up on his life so soon.

This reminded him of what the ghost had said yesterday—even if you're going to die, at least choose a romantic way to die.

...It seems like dying for magical research isn't so bad?

  No, no, no!

Morris quickly shook his head, dismissing the dangerous idea.

It seems this magic can't be tried for the time being. He sighed softly.

What exactly is the space between life and death?

Unable to satisfy his curiosity, he felt a strange discomfort, like being tickled by a feather.

Suppressing his curiosity, Maurice composed himself, sat down on the bed, and began his daily meditation.

He now discovers that meditation not only increases the success rate of casting curse spells, but also helps in learning magic at Hogwarts.

This is also why he was able to quickly master the Transfiguration Charm.

About an hour later, Maurice opened his eyes.

A brief meditation is enough to clear one's mind.

Outside the window, the sun had fully awakened, and the outline of the distant forest appeared particularly distinct in the morning glow.

Donning a robe, he decided to explore the castle before breakfast.

When he pushed open the dormitory door, he was surprised to find a grayish-white, illusory figure.

It is a wild female ghost.

  "Hello," Morris greeted politely.

The female ghost merely glanced at him before silently sinking into the floor.

It seems the other party has no interest in talking.

Morris shrugged indifferently and walked down the stairs.

The Ravenclaw common room was quiet in the early morning, except for Prefect Robert, who was whispering with another student by the window, wands in his hands.

Morris vaguely caught the words "black magic," "evil curse," and "curse."

Perhaps noticing Maurice's gaze, Robert looked up and gave him a gentle smile. "Maurice! Did you sleep well?"

"The beds at Hogwarts are much more comfortable than I expected," Maurice replied, stepping forward. "What are you talking about?"

"Last year's OWLs exam," Robert said without batting an eye, "I didn't get all the excellent grades, which is a bit of a shame. I wish I could take the exam again."

Morris keenly sensed the unnaturalness in the other person's tone, but simply nodded. "The exam is very important."

He had no intention of delving into other people's secrets, even though what he had just heard was indeed intriguing.

The student next to Robert winked at him, "We need to go to the library to save some seats."

"Time is always tight," Robert quickly replied, putting his wand back into his robe. "Goodbye, Maurice."
