Chapter 21 - Test Begins

The gym was already active when Tiger Squad arrived.

That was the first difference.

Training had started without them.

Eagle Squad was already in motion. Controlled exchanges, short sequences, clean resets. No wasted time.

Viper moved faster. Sharp entries. Immediate corrections.

Elephant and Rhino were engaged in structured rotations.

No one stood idle.

No one waited.

Kai stopped just inside the entrance.

Something had changed.

This was not the normal start.

No warmup.

No buildup.

No introduction.

The system was already running.

"Move."

Mateo stepped forward immediately.

No hesitation.

Luna followed.

Kai moved after them.

They took position.

Tiger Squad.

Jin-Sensei stood at the front.

He did not greet them.

He did not explain.

He watched.

"Observe," he said.

One word.

Nothing more.

Kai looked across the gym.

Each squad was engaged in something different.

But there was a pattern.

Short sequences.

Clear outcomes.

Immediate resets.

And movement.

Constant movement.

No wasted time.

A student from Eagle completed a sequence.

Another stepped in instantly.

No delay.

No discussion.

Just replacement.

Kai narrowed his eyes.

This was not normal training.

This was structured.

Measured.

Every action leading to a result.

"What are they doing?" Kai asked.

No answer from Jin-Sensei.

Mateo spoke instead.

"Evaluation."

Kai looked at him.

"Already?"

Mateo did not look back.

"Yes."

Luna added quietly.

"They started without us."

Kai felt that.

Immediate.

They were behind.

Before even starting.

Jin-Sensei stepped forward.

"Tiger Squad."

All three focused.

"This is your evaluation."

No buildup.

No explanation.

Kai's chest tightened slightly.

It was already active.

No preparation.

No transition.

Just immediate entry.

"Rules will not be repeated," Jin-Sensei said.

Kai frowned.

"Then what are they?"

Jin-Sensei did not respond directly.

"You will observe and adapt."

Kai exhaled sharply.

Again.

No guidance.

Mateo did not react.

He was already watching.

Tracking patterns.

Reading structure.

Luna did the same.

Her eyes moved across the floor.

Following timing.

Spacing.

Transitions.

Kai forced himself to focus.

He watched Eagle.

A sequence began.

Three movements.

Clean.

Point.

Reset.

Next student.

Same structure.

Same timing.

Different execution.

Same result.

Kai tried to map it.

Understand it.

But it was too fast.

Too controlled.

Viper rotated.

Faster.

Less visible.

Harder to read.

Elephant.

More stable.

Rhino.

More pressure.

Different styles.

Same structure.

Short sequences.

Clear outcomes.

Immediate continuation.

Kai felt something shift in his chest.

This was not about learning.

This was about proving.

Jin-Sensei spoke.

"You enter when called."

That was it.

Kai looked at him.

"That's all?"

"Yes."

No further detail.

No breakdown.

No explanation.

Mateo stepped slightly forward.

Ready.

Luna adjusted her stance.

Balanced.

Prepared.

Kai rolled his shoulders once.

Focused.

This was it.

The chance.

No waiting.

No buildup.

He would prove himself here.

"Stay within structure," Luna said quietly.

Kai glanced at her.

"What structure?"

She did not answer.

She returned to watching.

That irritated him.

But he forced it down.

Focus.

He looked across the gym again.

This time, he noticed something else.

No one was talking.

No one was helping each other.

No one was explaining anything.

Each student stepped in.

Performed.

Stepped out.

Replaced.

Constant.

Relentless.

This was not cooperative.

This was not shared.

This was individual performance inside a system.

And the system did not pause.

A student from Rhino failed a sequence.

They were replaced immediately.

No correction.

No second chance.

Just removal.

Kai saw it clearly.

No safety.

No delay.

Only outcome.

"Clarke."

Kai snapped forward.

His name.

Already.

He stepped in.

No hesitation.

No time to think.

This was it.

The system had called him.

He moved into position.

The space felt different.

Not like training.

Sharper.

More exposed.

More final.

He set his stance.

Still not perfect.

Still not stable.

But ready.

Behind him, Mateo and Luna watched.

Jin-Sensei said nothing.

The system moved.

Kai focused.

Everything narrowed.

This was not practice.

This was not preparation.

This was survival inside the structure.

And he had already entered it.
