Chapter 5 - The Embodiment of Spiders

Watching the animated movie, I was completely filled with anticipation. I mean, in games you have to actually play and spend time to get an item, study the wiki, but here… you just have to watch! And there are tons of interesting anime with cool items! Will I be able to pull an Eva from Evangelion?! Or the Death Star?!

"Alright, I'm getting carried away…" I muttered to myself. Thoughts like that hit my head like a sledgehammer, the sheer possibilities overwhelming.

Soon I paused the movie, and on the screen appeared the spider on Miles' hand. Small, with glowing blue legs.

The moment of truth.

Glancing at my hand, I slowly brought it to the screen again and… it passed through! Keeping in mind what I needed, I reached toward the spider, and soon I felt something small and… alive, unmistakably alive. It wasn't exactly pleasant, but I'm not arachnophobic, even if holding it wasn't enjoyable. Still, it didn't slip away, and I managed to pull it out without any problem.

"So that's what you are… ow." The little spider bit me on the hand, right in my palm where I held it. "You little bastard… damn, of course it would bite me… should've expected that." It didn't hurt much, more just unexpected. After that, the spider stopped moving, and its legs seemed to "go dark," probably dead.

"Oh…" dizziness hit me. "Alright…" The bracelet was still on me, so I had regeneration. But just in case, I also downed a healing potion and collapsed onto the bed. I hope I won't regret this decision, especially since…

It worked!

Which means this should work with movies, series, and anime too! An image immediately popped into my head of a constantly burping old guy with blue hair and his portal gun. That's freedom! And no one can stop me, because there's simply no one who can!

Mary Bellstone, Field Agent, Level 3 Clearance, S.C.P.

"So, what do we have?" the woman asked, reading another report without even looking up at the scientist who approached.

"We managed to localize the radiation of the unknown anomaly by residual traces. It should be somewhere here." The scientist showed a map with a fairly large marked area, about seven sizable districts.

"Got it. So you're not being paid for nothing," she snorted, taking the map and studying it more closely. "We already have access to cameras, but there's nothing extraordinary there… hm."

"Based on aspect radiation and fluctuations in E.V.E. field activity, the anomaly should be located here. However… the concentration of E.V.E. seems high enough to distort reality itself…"

"Get to the point," Mary cut him off.

"Right. Judging by the aspect radiation here, we believe we may be dealing with a Green Type…"

"Goddamn… a Reality Bender?" the woman swallowed.

"Yes, ma'am. Which most likely means the target is human, making the search significantly easier," the lead scientist confirmed.

"A human… can you identify them by E.V.E. fluctuation levels?" she asked.

"There are too many people in the area, and if this really is a Green Type, the E.V.E. levels will be unstable across the entire zone. We won't be able to pinpoint the anomaly with certainty… unless it uses its abilities."

"Reality Benders… so many stories about them," the woman smirked, already anticipating something new. "I'll contact headquarters. If the Green Type is already in the late stages of awareness, it may transition to Stage Four, 'God.' In that case… Level Five countermeasures. But for now, find them. Do not initiate contact." She gave the order and glanced at her silent assistant, who nodded.

Morning started in a very unexpected way…

"What the hell?" I asked, looking down at my bed. Meanwhile, I was hanging on the wall, completely not understanding what was happening. Then something clicked in my head, and I remembered what I did last night and how it all ended. A flood of memories assembled into a clear picture.

"Spider-Man powers…" I whispered, looking at my hands. I was sticking to the wall, but the moment I relaxed, I dropped back onto the bed. "Okay, I got even healthier… wow…" I pulled up my shirt and looked at my abs. They used to be visible… sometimes, but now it was a perfect six-pack, and I'd even grown a little.

Walking over to my laptop, I saw that Skyrim had finished downloading, along with the first season of Rick and Morty. I set that up yesterday, since Skyrim has skill books I might be able to use. And also potions, elixirs, and items. Plus, I still had my old save files from a couple of years ago. Maybe it'll work, since I actually played it myself, not just downloaded someone else's saves…

"I need to do something about this laptop…" another thought came to mind.

I mean… my current laptop isn't bad, I bought it myself, but it doesn't have much storage. And now I can literally pull any laptop, computer, or similar device from games, movies, or series.

Mass Effect computers came to mind, but they're all holographic… sounds cool, but how would that even work in reality? So I opened the wiki again and checked The Sims, and I wasn't wrong. There are plenty of computers and laptops there, and ways to unlock them.

"Supercomputer 'Master Control'? No thanks…" I shuddered reading the description. I really don't want a computer that even has the slightest possibility of thinking on its own.

But the laptop "S.I.Mac P.R.O" sounded much better. Compact and very powerful, and not too hard to obtain. Just need a Sim to reach level ten in the Interior Designer career.

"The 'Totally Confidential' computer is packed with cutting-edge military tech unavailable to civilians… sounds nice," I muttered. But then I found something even more interesting… the "Database Computer," which, according to its description, contains information about every character in the world! Meaning theoretically… every person in my world?!

"I think I know what I'm going to grind… gotta check some guides on how to level careers faster. It's Saturday anyway, no classes, I can grind all day… not just for nothing, I've got a goal!"

For that, I launched Skyrim and continued playing my old character and… I managed to pull out the potions I needed! Well, a Minor Stamina Potion, but that should be enough. Especially since I felt like I could sit at the computer for days without getting tired. I'd already tested my increased strength too, easily lifting my bed. I wanted to go for a run around the city and test my limits, but…

"Hm, is this spider-sense?" I asked out loud. It felt like a persistent thought at the edge of my awareness, like a warning, telling me that I shouldn't do that right now.

Maybe I could be noticed, and that's what the sense was reacting to? I read somewhere that Peter doesn't worry about being seen jumping out of his window because his sense tells him when it's safe and when it's not.

So I started playing The Sims, creating a new character with the right starting traits to reach level ten in the Interior Designer career. I had all the necessary guides open, so I just played and progressed.

While playing, I started thinking again… about my abilities. Not that I hadn't thought about it before, but still… how does this even work? I could pull items from games I personally played, and from movies too. I even tried getting a second spider for a small experiment, and it didn't work. No matter the site, download, or dub, I just couldn't pull another one. It slipped out of my grasp every time, so there are limits. In games, I can take multiple copies if my character has them, but in movies or animated films… only one instance of an item.

But even that is a lot. While grinding Sims, I kept another window open, searching for more information. Something like an "Indestructibility Potion" would be nice. But so far, I hadn't found anything.

"Sweetheart…" Mom peeked into the room and saw me playing. "Relaxing?"

"Yeah, there's still plenty of time before the project," I nodded, looking at her. "Everything okay?"

"Yes… son, could you go pick Bernard up? He drank too much at the bar, and his friend called from his phone…"

"Yeah… great choice of a boyfriend," I shook my head.

"Everyone has their flaws. He's a good man, just sometimes… goes too far. At least this one won't run away like your blood father did," she smirked.

"No problem. Which bar?"

"Jimmy's Bar. Thank you, son." She hugged me and kissed my cheek. "I'll make something to eat while you're gone."

Alright, it's only five minutes to the bar, so I won't lose much time. Might as well get some fresh air.
