After the page refreshed, the first thing Leon noticed was that once the vital chi inside his body started flowing according to the pathway mentioned in the newly transformed Ultimate Body Forging Sutra, his cultivation actually fell from the 8th heaven of mortal realm to the 7th heaven.
Even the life essence points he needed to complete the 7th heaven of the mortal realm increased to 812 points, where it was normally only 700 points.
At the same time, even though his cultivation regressed, his 8th heaven strength was still there.
"Does this mean the potential of my body actually increased?" Leon mumbled to himself in disbelief.
"I will be going then. If you have any more tasks, just let me know," John waved goodbye to Leon and walked off towards his wooden house.
Absentmindedly, Leon also walked towards his home. Late in the evening, lanterns were already hung outside his wooden house.
"Big brother," an excited little girl with two adorable braids ran over and held Leon's hand with a broad smile as he walked towards his home.
"What is it, Amy? You look rather happy today," Leon asked with a smile when he saw his little sister Amelia grinning ear to ear.
"I bought a pony from a wandering merchant. You won't believe me, it's actually a white unicorn," Amelia said excitedly as both of them entered the house.
Old woman Mercy, the housekeeper Leon had recruited to look after Amelia, was sitting on the floor of the hall, covering a little white pony not even the size of a baby goat in a warm towel, trying her best to keep it warm.
Leon narrowed his eyes when he saw this. Due to his Ultimate Body Forging Art, he was quite sensitive to life force and could actually feel the pony's life force fading away.
"Leo, you are back. Go and wash up, grandma will serve you dinner," the old woman said with a gentle smile when she saw Leon.
"Grandma, how much did you pay for it?" Leon asked as he gestured towards the pony.
Grandma Mercy looked a little awkward. "It cost about 2000 mortal grade coins. I tried to persuade little Amy, but she insisted that she won't eat sweets until the 2000 mortal grade coins is covered and she wouldn't listen to me no matter what. So in the end I had no choice..."
Leon waved his hands. "No need to explain such things. The reason I gave you money was to spend on things Amy likes. But the problem is, you guys were scammed by whoever sold you this. This pony is on the verge of death."
"What?"
Both Amelia and the old woman were stunned.
Amelia ran over and rubbed the little pony's head as she asked Leon worriedly, "But that merchant uncle said that the reason why Coco looks weak is because it was only born today."
"Idiot. They will tell all sorts of lies to sell their goods. Unlike ordinary beasts, the cost of nurturing elite beasts like unicorns is extremely high. The merchant might have spent a considerable amount to take care of its mother during its pregnancy while calculating the profit he will earn after selling her child."
"But in the end, the pony ended up with very weak life force, unlikely to survive for long. So when he saw a naive little girl like you, he told some flowery words and you actually bought it at the market price, rescuing him from the loss," Leon analysed the whole situation in one breath.
He didn't believe that the merchant was unaware of the horse's condition. After all, merchants are shrewd people who won't take a loss. They might even have specialised beast doctors to take care of their pets.
"But...but...Coco is already my little sister. I don't want Coco to die," tears started falling from Amelia's big eyes when she heard this.
"Little sister?" Leon's mouth twitched when he heard this.
With a helpless sigh, he turned to grandma Mercy and asked, "Did that merchant leave the village or is he staying overnight?"
"He is staying overnight at the guest house of the village chief," Mercy said as she comforted the little girl.
Leon went inside his room and came out with his heavy money pouch on his waist. "Stop whining like a fool. Let's go and ask that merchant if there is a way to save your sister."
Leon took the pony which was curled up in the white towel and walked outside. Amelia hurriedly wiped away the tears in her eyes and ran behind Leo.
When they reached the guest house of the village chief, there were several large tents camped at the side, from where the sound of horses could be heard. There were also several servants busying in and out of the tents, obviously settling the beasts in their stables.
Just outside the guest house, a chubby middleaged man sat on a recliner with a folding fan in his hands.
"Little brother, once transactions are made, there is no refund," the middleaged man narrowed his eyes when he saw Leon walking in with the pony in his hand.
Leon chuckled when he heard this. "Don't worry big brother, I am not that poor to haggle over this much money."
"2000 mortal coins is not a big sum for you? Then why are you here?" the middleaged man asked strangely.
"I noticed the pony's life force is extremely weak and my little sister quite liked it. If it dies, that will make her sad. So I was hoping for some advice from big brother to treat it," Leon said earnestly.
Seeing Leon's modest behaviour, the middleaged man's attitude softened. "Actually there is a way. If an expert at the iron grade can carefully channel the power of an iron grade life force pill into its body, it can be saved. But it's a waste of money to spend such a huge sum on a beast that is not even at the mortal realm."
Leon smiled. "Since big brother said so much, you can save this little guy, right?"
The middleaged man chuckled. "The cost will be 50 iron grade coins, including my treatment fee. What do you think? Still want to save this thing?"
Leon put the pony carefully down and opened the pouch at his waist before placing 50 iron grade coins on the table in front of the middleaged man.
The middleaged man looked at Leon in bewilderment. After all, it was quite difficult to believe that someone from a remote village like this could afford this much money. One had to know that most common people used gradeless coins. 100 of these gradeless coins equals a mortal grade coin and again 100 mortal grade coins equal an iron grade coin. So in simple terms, Leon had casually slammed half a million gradeless coins in front of the chubby man.
The chubby middleaged man's expression suddenly turned completely around as he stood up from the chair and personally picked up the pony into his arms.
"Young man, come back tomorrow. I guarantee that this pony will be livelier than a monkey."
Leon smiled. "My sister and her grandma will come tomorrow. If you don't mind, please give her some advice on how to look after the pony."
"Of course, of course. You don't have to remind me. I will personally write a complete guide for little sister to study," the chubby middleaged man bootlicked nonstop until Leon and little Amy left the place.
After all, he was just stopping here on the way to Rose Valley. Who would have thought that such an unexpected windfall would come from out of nowhere.
"Happy now?" Leon asked the little girl whose eyes were puffy from crying.
Amelia lowered her head and said in a low voice, "I won't eat sweets until that money you spent on Coco is recovered."
A teasing smile appeared on Leon's face. "That would take at least 13 years. Are you sure you can endure for that long?"
"Thirteen..." Amelia widened her eyes with a panicked expression when she heard this.
Leon knocked her head playfully and scolded, "Stop messing around. Your brother has money and you spending some won't affect me that much. Just make sure to think twice before falling for the schemes of others like today."
"But that's not right. I can't go back on my words. I can just stop eating sweets for 13 years. That's not a big deal."
"Fine then. I will ask grandma Mercy to give the sweets we have ordered from uncle John to some other kids in the village. But it's truly a pity, after all I have asked him to buy the white rabbit candy that was going popular in Rose Valley town."
"White rabbit... Brother, now that I think of it, what you said actually makes sense. Let's forget about repaying. After all we are siblings, there is no need for bringing money between us."
"No, I need the full money with interest. And where did you learn to talk like this? I am truly surprised to see an idiot like you actually know how to speak like a scholar."
"Brother, how can you say that to your cute little sister?"
"Just have to open my mouth and speak. It's that simple."
"Brother..."
The siblings bickered back and forth as they walked back to their house.
