Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten: The Last Choice

The tenth day came quietly.

Too quietly.

There was no shouting.

No breaking.

No trembling ground.

But in Ebirien, silence had never been something to trust.

People moved carefully through the streets.

They spoke but only when necessary.

They told the truth but not all of it.

Because now they knew something dangerous:

Truth could save them…

but it could also expose them.

And exposure…

was something many people still feared.

At the center of the town, Tare stood alone.

The square that once echoed with chaos now felt empty.

Not peaceful.

Waiting.

Inside him, the presence had almost disappeared.

It no longer spoke loudly.

No longer demanded.

It lingered.

Weak.

Fading.

It is ending, it whispered faintly.

Tare closed his eyes.

"Yes."

But something didn't feel right.

Because endings are rarely quiet.

And this one…

felt unfinished.

Tare looked around the town slowly.

People were trying.

He could see that.

They were speaking more.

Hiding less.

But not completely.

There were still things unsaid.

Still truths buried.

Still anger… waiting.

And as long as those remained

the force could return.

Tare took a slow breath.

"This isn't over," he said quietly.

No, the presence agreed.

Tare's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Then what is this?"

A pause.

This is the moment before the choice.

Elsewhere in the town, tension was quietly building again.

Not loud.

Not obvious.

But present.

A man avoided looking at his brother after yesterday's argument.

A woman smiled at her friend but hid resentment behind it.

A group of boys laughed but one of them felt excluded.

Small things.

But powerful.

Because the force didn't need chaos.

It only needed unresolved truth.

Back in the square, Tare turned slowly.

"They're holding back again," he said.

Yes.

"And that's enough… isn't it?"

The answer came like a warning.

It always is.

As the sun began to set, the town gathered once more.

Not by force.

But by instinct.

They knew something was coming.

The village head stepped forward.

His voice steady but uncertain.

"We have come far," he said.

"But we are not finished."

People nodded.

"Some of us still hide things," he continued.

Silence.

Because everyone knew

he was right.

Tare stepped forward.

"This is the last part," he said.

All eyes turned to him.

"We have two choices," he continued.

"Keep going… and face everything."

A pause.

"Or stop here… and let it return."

Murmurs spread.

Fear returned.

Because the deeper truths…

were harder.

A man stepped forward slowly.

His hands shaking.

"There are things I cannot say," he admitted.

A woman nodded.

"Some truths destroy lives," she said.

Another voice:

"Some things are better left hidden."

The tension rose.

Inside Tare, the presence stirred slightly.

This is where they fail.

Tare clenched his jaw.

"No," he whispered.

But even he wasn't sure.

Because this wasn't about small confessions anymore.

This was about the deepest truths.

The ones people built their lives around hiding.

Then

Kola stepped forward.

The crowd turned immediately.

He looked different.

Not calm.

Not angry.

Struggling.

"I need to say something," he said.

Silence fell instantly.

Tare watched him carefully.

This mattered.

A lot.

Kola took a deep breath.

Then another.

"I hated you," he said, looking directly at Tare.

No reaction.

No shaking ground.

He continued.

"I still do… a little."

A few people shifted nervously.

"But not for the reason I thought."

He looked down briefly.

"I was angry at myself," he admitted.

The words came slowly.

Like they were being pulled out.

"I saw you being quiet… and I hated it."

He swallowed hard.

"Because I couldn't be like that."

The crowd listened.

"I couldn't control my anger," he continued.

"I couldn't ignore things."

His voice cracked slightly.

"And instead of fixing that… I made you the problem."

Silence.

Real silence.

The ground didn't move.

The air didn't shake.

Inside Tare

the presence faded further.

This… ends me…

Tare's chest tightened slightly.

Kola looked up.

"I'm sorry."

The words were simple.

But they carried weight.

Real weight.

Tare said nothing for a moment.

Then

"I forgive you," he replied.

And just like that

something broke.

But not the town.

The force.

A sudden wind swept through Ebirien.

Not violent.

Not destructive.

Releasing.

The pressure that had filled the air for days…

disappeared.

The ground stilled completely.

The silence that followed

was different.

Not fear.

Peace.

Inside Tare, the presence spoke one last time.

You have done what I could not.

Tare closed his eyes.

"What was that?"

The answer came softly.

You chose truth… without destruction.

And then

it was gone.

Tare opened his eyes.

For the first time since everything began

he felt… alone.

But not empty.

Free.

Around him, the people of Ebirien stood in silence.

Not because they were afraid.

But because they were thinking.

Understanding.

Learning.

The village head stepped forward.

"It is over," he said.

But Tare shook his head slowly.

"No," he said.

The crowd looked at him.

"It's not over," he continued.

A pause.

"It's just… controlled."

Because the truth was simple.

Anger had not disappeared.

It never would.

But now

it had something stronger to stand against it.

Truth.

And as long as that remained

Ebirien would survive.

But if it was forgotten…

The Revenge of Anger

would return.
