🌙
It didn't start with certainty. It started with silence. The kind that no longer felt peaceful. But unfinished.
Kenzo noticed it one late night after work. He was sitting in his apartment, lights dim, city noise far below him. His phone was in his hand. Unlocked. Sofia's name was there.
Not on top of the chat anymore. Not urgent. Just… existing. He didn't open it right away. Instead, he sat there longer than usual. Listening to his own thoughts for once.
Life was fine. Stable. Even good. And yet— something in him felt paused. Not broken. Not lost. Just unresolved.
He leaned back, exhaling slowly. And for the first time in a long time— he stopped asking himself what she meant to him. Because he already knew. Sofia wasn't confusion. She wasn't a memory to be solved. She was his love. Still. Just no longer in his daily life.
And that realization didn't bring peace this time. It brought movement.
The next morning— Kenzo opened his laptop. Typed a destination. Didn't overthink it. Didn't analyze it. Just acted. Flight: Manila.
His fingers paused for a moment over the keyboard. But he didn't stop. He booked it. Not because he expected anything. Not because he needed closure.
But because something inside him finally said: You can't keep loving someone from a distance that never ends in understanding.
He didn't tell Elia immediately. Didn't explain it to anyone. Because this wasn't a decision he could fully justify yet. It was instinct. Truth catching up with time.
Across the world— Sofia was walking home after a long day. Air warm. City alive.
Her phone rang. Unknown international number. She almost didn't answer.
But something in her paused. And she did.
"Hello?"
Silence on the other end. Just a breath. Then— "Sofia…"
Her steps slowed instantly. That voice— didn't belong to her present. But it also didn't belong to her past. It belonged somewhere in between.
"Kenzo?" she asked quietly.
"Yes," he said. Another pause. Longer this time. "I didn't plan to call like this," he admitted.
Sofia didn't respond immediately. Just stood there. Letting the world continue around her while her world stopped for a moment.
"I booked a flight," Kenzo said.
Her breath caught slightly. "…To here?"
"Yes."
Silence. Not confusion this time. But impact. Because this wasn't a memory returning. This was something entering reality again.
"Why?" Sofia finally asked.
Kenzo exhaled slowly on the other end. Not unsure. Just honest. "Because I needed to see you… not as someone I remember, but as someone who still exists in my life in a real way."
Sofia closed her eyes briefly. This wasn't romantic chaos. Not desperation. It was something calmer. But heavier.
"And what are you expecting?" she asked softly.
Kenzo paused. Then answered truthfully— "Nothing specific."
A beat. "I just don't want to keep loving you from a distance that never gets a real ending."
That sentence— stayed in the air between them.
Sofia swallowed. Because she understood what he wasn't saying out loud. This wasn't about going back. Not automatically. Not easily. This was about facing what still existed.
"What if it changes nothing?" she asked quietly.
Kenzo didn't hesitate. "Then at least it will be real."
Silence again. But different now. Less avoidance. More truth.
Sofia looked up at the sky as people passed her by. And for the first time in a long time— she felt something she hadn't expected. Not fear. Not hope. But readiness.
"…When are you coming?" she asked.
Kenzo's voice softened. "In three days." Another pause. Then quieter— "I just needed you to know before I arrive."
Sofia nodded slightly, even though he couldn't see it. "Okay," she said softly.
Not an answer. Not a decision. Just acknowledgment that something was about to shift again.
Kenzo exhaled. "See you soon."
And then— the call ended. Sofia stood still for a long moment afterward. Phone still in her hand. Not shaken. Not emotional in the way she used to be. Just aware.
That love she had once left behind… was walking back toward her life.
And this time— it wasn't a memory. It was a person.
