Chapter 29 - Chapter 30 – Foundation

The room was quiet.

Not empty.

Not calm.

Focused.

Kael stood at the center, shoulders relaxed, feet planted firmly against the ground. The faint ache from the Rift still lingered in his body, a reminder that whatever he had done there—

hadn't been clean.

Good.

He adjusted his stance slightly.

Lower.

More stable.

"…again."

No system message.

No countdown.

He moved.

A step forward.

A shift in weight.

A turn of the shoulder.

The dagger formed in his hand, its faint glow stabilizing instantly as he swung.

Too wide.

Kael stopped mid-motion.

"…waste."

He reset.

Same position.

Same stance.

Again.

The strike came cleaner this time.

But not enough.

"…still off."

He didn't rush.

Didn't get frustrated.

He just did it again.

And again.

And again.

Each movement smaller.

Sharper.

More controlled.

Kael stepped back slightly.

Then forward again.

Burst Step—

The world snapped around him as his position shifted across the room.

He stopped immediately.

"…inconsistent."

The landing was off.

Balance slightly broken.

In a real fight—

that would've cost him.

Kael exhaled slowly.

"That won't work."

Not like this.

He closed his eyes for a second.

Then replayed it.

The Rift.

The creatures.

The moment he was too early.

The moment he was too late.

The moment he almost didn't move at all.

His eyes opened.

"I moved before I understood."

A pause.

"…and reacted before I read."

That was the problem.

Not strength.

Not speed.

Decision.

Kael lowered the dagger slightly, letting it flicker before stabilizing again in his grip.

"…then I fix that first."

He stepped back into position.

This time—

he didn't attack.

He moved slowly.

A step.

Pause.

Another step.

Pause.

Watching.

Imagining.

An opponent.

A strike.

A pattern.

He shifted his weight.

Adjusted his footing.

Then—

he moved.

The dagger cut forward—

Clean.

No extra motion.

No wasted force.

Kael stopped.

"…better."

Still not enough.

He reset again.

This time—

faster.

Step—

turn—

strike—

Then stop.

Check.

Correct.

Repeat.

Minutes passed.

Then more.

Time didn't matter.

Only precision did.

Kael's breathing steadied.

His movements sharpened.

The unnecessary motion disappeared.

What remained—

was intent.

He stepped again.

Burst Step—

The shift happened.

Cleaner.

He landed.

Balanced.

Still.

Kael didn't move immediately.

"…again."

He repeated it.

And again.

Each time—

less error.

More control.

The dagger moved with him, no longer reacting, no longer catching up—

but following.

Exactly where he wanted it.

Kael slowed to a stop.

His chest rose and fell steadily.

The system flickered.

[Combat Efficiency Improved]

He stared at it briefly.

"…so you notice this."

Not power.

Not survival.

Control.

Kael looked down at his hand.

Then tightened his grip slightly.

"This is slower."

A pause.

"…but it works."

No shortcuts.

No guessing.

Just improvement.

Step by step.

Kael lifted his gaze slightly.

The Rift.

The creatures.

That presence deeper inside.

All of it still there.

Waiting.

"…good."

Because next time—

he wouldn't rely on instinct.

He wouldn't rely on luck.

He wouldn't rely on the system.

He stepped forward again.

Lower stance.

Sharper focus.

"…I'll keep going."

Not until he got stronger.

Not until he leveled up.

But until—

nothing in that place—

could touch him.
