Chapter 6 - 06

ARCHER

After a stressful day at work, I was finally standing in the middle of the forest. I had planned a night out with my friends. I was there with my two hunter friends, Ashton and Timothy. It was the summer season. And in the summer season, the forests of California have always been loaded with tons of wolves running around. And where you find wolves, deers are often found around the area as well. I was not really into this hunting and stuff. Yes, I loved fishing. And sometimes, I liked to hunt for deers. There is a sweetness or if I say it right, a heavenly aroma in deer's meat. I had never hunted for any other wild animals. As it was illegal and I didn't like keeping waxed animal heads in my house. It was kind of gross.

My grandfather and my father used to love hunting wild animals for fun. But it just disgusted me. I couldn't keep a decapitated waxed head in my home as a trophy to prove the world that I was a man. Then what women were born for. I looked at the sky. The big silver full moon was shining brightly in the sky. It was a bit creepy. I just never went hunting when it was full moon. It was because of my grandmother's stories. She used to tell me these stupid paranormal and supernatural kinds of stories that always scared the crap out of me. I tried to tell her that I didn't like those kinds of stories. But she just never listened.

I was the only heir to one of the best liquor companies in California. I was practically born with not a silver or a gold spoon in my mouth. I was born with a spoon made of diamonds in my mouth. I was actually a billionaire. My ancestors started this liquor company, the Archer's. My grandfather named me after the company. My grandfather had added a few more businesses in. Like, the beverages business. Or the Archer's jewellery stores. My grandmother was a jewellery designer. By the time I came into this world, I was a billionaire myself. My father never wanted to have me. I was born because my mom wanted a child.

Unfortunately, I was not very lucky for her. She died the moment she heard my voice. Grandma said that her pregnancy with me was very difficult. And at that time, my grandpa was suffering from cancer. That's why my grandparents were living in New York for my grandfather's treatment. The company was suffering as well. Our shares went down and someone leaked fake news about our beverages that they were not edible. Then I came into this world with tons of luck. That's what my grandfather always said about my birth. My father left me with my grandparents. They raised me. While my father was dating this woman he liked. Nobody knew exactly when he started dating. Not even my grandparents knew.

I was in my teens when I came to know that my father was with his second wife before my mother had died. She was his mistress. And after my mother, she didn't spend a day without my dad. After setting my gun, I held it in front of my eyes and aimed. We heard some rustling. Like someone was running towards us. I was hoping to see the deer. But then something else caught my eyes. Something rare and impossible. It was a red wolf I saw running into the woods. It was looking back as if it was being chased. I gulped hard as suddenly, it felt like my demons took control over my body. I had no idea what I was doing and why I was doing it.

I felt a hunger inside me. A hunger to shoot that red wolf and take it back home. I was practically dreaming about something that disgusted me all my life. "Umm… hey, buddy! I think you are aiming for something else. It is not a deer. It's a wolf. Are you sure you want to do this?" Ashton asked me in a low tone while he was staring at me. Instead of answering him, I shot the wolf. That was the only response he got for the question he asked me. I put my gun down and smirked at him. Timothy shook his head while Ashton gulped hard in nervousness. I just couldn't stand it whenever someone asked me something stupid.

I had my gun ready as we heard the rustling again. I might have hit the wrong spot. The wolf was not dead. In a minute, my eyes widened in both horror and surprise as a naked woman walked out from behind the trees. I gulped hard as I saw a gunshot wound on her chest, right beneath her left shoulder. She walked towards me and fell down on the ground. She was staring straight into my eyes. She raised her hand that was covered in her blood. It looked like she was struggling to say something. But she couldn't blurt it out. "Hhhheeelll… HELP ME!" After a few minutes, she was able to utter two words. And as those two words escaped her lips, she slowly closed her eyes and her arm also dropped on the ground.

I knelt down on the ground. My brain felt like it had died inside my skull. And my heart was controlling my body. It was the first time I felt that way. I pulled my handkerchief out of my pocket and stuffed it inside the hole in her chest. It slowed down the bleeding. Then I pulled my tuxedo jacket off of my body and covered her body with my jacket. "Yo, dude! What the fuck are you doing? We were hunting wolves. That is illegal. Then we just shot a woman. Now I don't understand what you are planning to do?" I rolled my eyes as I heard Ashton whining again.

I turned my head to glare at him. He shut his mouth and stepped away from me. "I am getting her out of here. I can't leave her here. She is wounded and these woods don't look that safe." I replied to him in a calmed tone. I scooped her up gently in my arms and stood up. She looked like a tiny fawn in my arms.

"Dude! Are you stupid? We better just leave her here. The wolves will eat her. No evidence of you shooting her. We have no idea who she really is? We don't know what she was doing running into the woods all naked? This all just looks shady and creepy." It was Timothy who backed Ashton.

I turned around to glare at them both. "If you don't want to have to do anything with this, fine. Get your things and get out. I am taking her away. I can't leave her here." I replied to them in a low tone. I walked towards my car and hopped in. I kept her on my lap as I buckled up and started the engine. Just then, we heard a bunch of wolves howling. Timothy and Ashton also hopped into their cars. We all drove away as fast as we could. Ashton and Timothy turned away as they lived far away from me. While I decided to take her home instead of taking her to the hospital. My penthouse was on top of our company building. And as it was almost 9 O'Clock in the night, I knew there would be no one around except for a bunch of our loyal guards.
