Chapter 10 - The First Rival Battle

Jack hadn't expected his day to take this turn.

He was walking out of the university building, his thoughts still lingering on Rayan and the strange encounter at the library. The sense of being watched hadn't left him, and now the weight of the day pressed on his shoulders.

As Jack walked, he checked his phone, absently scrolling through messages from his family. His sister, Ananya, had sent him a picture of their parents smiling—an ordinary family photo. He almost smiled at the sight, but the moment was interrupted.

"Hey, you!"

Jack's head snapped up. Standing in front of him was a man in his late twenties, with a cocky grin plastered across his face. His dark eyes gleamed with a strange intensity as he crossed his arms, blocking Jack's path.

Jack immediately recognized him.

It was Rayan.

But this time, Rayan wasn't acting calm or friendly. His presence was cold, commanding. It felt like a challenge.

"You—" Jack began, his voice low and cautious. "What do you want?"

Rayan smirked, stepping closer. "I was hoping you could give me a little… demonstration of what you can do, Jack."

Jack's stomach tightened. His mind immediately flicked to the Nanochip, the power it had unlocked, and the fact that it was still growing stronger with every use. But he couldn't show it all. Not here. Not now.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Jack replied, keeping his voice even. "I'm not interested in whatever game you're playing."

Rayan chuckled darkly. "This isn't a game, Jack. You've been chosen. Just like me."

"What are you talking about?" Jack asked, his pulse quickening. This was more than just a casual encounter. Rayan wasn't just following him anymore; he was confronting him. He had some kind of plan.

"The Nanochip," Rayan said, his eyes flashing with excitement. "You think I didn't know? The moment you activated it, I knew you were one of us. A user of the system. A competitor."

Rayan's smirk grew wider. "And if you're not going to show me your abilities…"

Before Jack could react, Rayan's body blurred.

Too fast.

Jack barely had time to react. He instinctively ducked, narrowly avoiding a heavy punch aimed at his head. The shockwave from Rayan's fist hitting the air left Jack disoriented for a split second.

Rayan stood a few feet away, his posture relaxed as if the attack had been nothing. "I was hoping you'd be a challenge. But you don't even seem to realize what you've been given."

Jack's chest tightened. This wasn't just a fight—it was an initiation. A test.

He could feel the Nanochip stirring inside him, its power waiting to be unleashed. He'd been holding back ever since the fight with the monster in the construction site. But now, faced with a real adversary, Jack felt something awaken deep within him.

His hand clenched into a fist.

He took a deep breath.

[Numerical Insight] activated.

The world shifted.

Numbers flooded his vision: every angle, every movement, every weakness in Rayan's stance. The seconds slowed as Jack mentally calculated his next move.

This wasn't a simple fight. This was a battle of wits, of systems. Rayan's system was faster than his own, but Jack had something Rayan didn't have: precision.

Rayan lunged again, faster this time. But Jack had already anticipated it. He stepped aside, his body moving fluidly, almost effortlessly. As Rayan's arm flew past him, Jack thrust his knee into Rayan's side.

Thud!

Rayan grunted, stumbling back, but the moment he regained his footing, he grinned. "Impressive. But it'll take more than that."

Jack barely had time to react as Rayan rushed him again. But this time, Jack was prepared.

[Skill Unlocked: Precision Strike]

[Damage Increased]

As Rayan threw a punch, Jack spun. His movement was smooth, faster than he thought possible. He lashed out with his leg, delivering a precise kick to Rayan's midsection.

Rayan's body was thrown back, crashing against a nearby wall.

Jack stood there, breathing hard. His body was still sore from the previous battle, but the Nanochip was feeding him power, making his senses sharper, faster.

Rayan slowly got to his feet, a flicker of respect in his eyes. "So, you do have some fight in you. But this isn't over yet."

The ground beneath them trembled.

Rayan's grin widened as he cracked his knuckles. "You're not the only one who's been gifted."

Before Jack could react, Rayan slammed his palm into the ground.

[Special Ability Activated: Surge of Power]

The air shifted violently.

Jack's body tensed as Rayan surged forward with a burst of power that was nearly impossible to track. The strength in his next punch was immense, an explosive force that Jack could barely avoid.

Jack leaped back, but Rayan followed. His movements were a blur—unpredictable. He was playing with Jack, trying to test his limits. Rayan wasn't just strong. He was calculating.

Jack's heart raced, and he felt a flicker of fear. He was losing control of the fight.

But then, a thought clicked.

He wasn't alone in this. The Nanochip had always been with him, but now it felt like it was more connected to his very being.

Jack clenched his fist.

This time, he wouldn't wait for Rayan to make the first move.

[Skill Unlocked: Calculated Strike]

Jack's movements were now perfectly in sync with the flow of battle. Every movement, every strike—calculated.

Rayan lunged again.

This time, Jack didn't dodge. He countered.

He ducked under Rayan's punch and, in a blur, he used Calculated Strike to land a hit directly on Rayan's chest, sending him sprawling backward. The blow wasn't just physical—it was like he was unlocking something within himself, tapping into the full potential of the Nanochip.

Rayan stumbled, gasping for air, a look of surprise crossing his face. Jack didn't give him a chance to recover.

He was fast now—quicker than ever before.

The Nanochip had given him the edge.

As Rayan took a step back, Jack stood tall.

"This ends now," Jack said, his voice steady, his heart calm.

He knew this was just the beginning of his journey. There were more opponents ahead, stronger ones. But he was ready.

And this time, he wasn't going to hold back.
