The day dragged on.
Jack sat through lectures, pretending to take notes, but in reality, his mind was far from the classroom. The Nanochip had shown him a new reality, one where numbers and patterns dictated the flow of the world. Everything was connected. Everything had a hidden meaning. But he had to stay normal. He couldn't let anyone see the cracks in the façade.
By the time class ended, the sun was setting, casting a soft orange glow over the campus. Jack was walking to his next class when he felt it—a sensation of being watched.
His heart raced.
Who's watching me?
He looked around, his eyes scanning the crowd. A few students were milling about, chatting, but nothing stood out. Still, the feeling lingered.
He continued walking, but the sensation of being followed never left. His body was on high alert. The Nanochip hummed within him, a low, mechanical sound only he could hear. The moment he stepped into the library, the feeling intensified.
There, standing in the corner of the room, was someone he hadn't expected to see.
Rayan.
The man wasn't looking directly at him, but Jack could feel his gaze. It was like Rayan was measuring him, calculating his every move.
Jack's heart skipped a beat. What was he doing here? Why was he following him?
Before Jack could react, Rayan turned and walked out of the library, disappearing into the crowd. It was as if he'd never been there.
But Jack knew better. This wasn't a coincidence.
The other users were out there, watching.
"Jack?"
Jack snapped out of his thoughts and turned to see Amit standing beside him. He had a concerned look on his face.
"You good, man?" Amit asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah," Jack replied, forcing a smile. "Just… lost in thought."
Amit didn't seem convinced, but he didn't press the issue. "Well, let's get going. I'll walk you back to the dorm."
Jack nodded and followed Amit, his mind racing. The sense of unease gnawed at him. Whoever Rayan was, whatever this new system was, he was clearly not the only one affected. The more he learned, the more he realized just how dangerous this world was becoming.
As they left the library, Jack couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning. There were other users out there, hidden in plain sight. And he wasn't sure whether they would be allies or enemies.
But one thing was clear: the Nanochip wasn't just a tool. It was a key to something much bigger.
And Jack was about to open that door.
