Chapter 37 - The Scramble

For the "God of Zoans," Tony Tony Chopper, this was nothing short of a perfect debut before the entire world.

Just like with Buggy before, the presentation followed a familiar pattern—first outlining the broader background, then revealing the individual's true abilities. By now, audiences watching the screen had grown accustomed to this structure.

As the footage played, Chopper's various transformation forms flashed continuously across the screen. This was something ordinary Zoan Devil Fruit users could never achieve. They were limited to just three forms—human, beast, and hybrid—and could only look on with envy.

The first figure revealed by the screen had already belonged to the pirates' side. A Marine Admiral had personally verified the authenticity of that information, which ultimately led to the permanent disappearance of Loguetown from the seas—leaving behind only the legend of Buggy's 3 billion Berries bounty.

Now, the second revealed figure… still belonged to the pirates.

Among the individuals destined to shape the future world, two were already pirates. To the vast majority of ordinary people across the seas, this was undeniably bad news.

However, compared to the general public's hatred of pirates, a small group—those suffering from illness—felt differently about Chopper.

Doctors were incredibly rare in the pirate world.

Travel between islands was difficult, and medical knowledge was scarce. If a single doctor resided on an island, that island would almost certainly prosper.

Medical resources were tightly controlled by the noble class. There was no such thing as insurance, let alone free treatment. For commoners, seeing a doctor often meant being exploited—at best drained of money, at worst condemned to a lifetime of debt.

And yet—

Even though Chopper was a "monster reindeer" sailing as a pirate doctor, people could already tell from the screen that his medical skills were extraordinary.

This was more than just an introduction.

It was the greatest medical advertisement the world had ever seen.

For countless sick and desperate people, it was like grasping a lifeline.

They etched one place firmly into their hearts:

Drum Island.

One day… they would go there to find this legendary doctor.

Meanwhile, the bounty revealed on the screen once again turned the Marines and the World Government into a global laughingstock.

50 Berries?

It wasn't even enough to buy a newspaper.

Just like Buggy before him—initially underestimated, only to have his bounty skyrocket hundreds of times after the truth was exposed.

Twice now, the bounty system had made catastrophic errors.

People couldn't help but mock:

No wonder the Marines couldn't suppress piracy—

their intelligence system might as well not exist.

At Marineford…

Laughter suddenly rang out.

Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp burst into hearty laughter in front of everyone. The "Hero of the Marines" had never cared about saving face for the World Government—if something was funny, he would laugh.

Across from him, Fleet Admiral Sengoku sat with a darkened expression. The atmosphere in the meeting room froze.

Garp's laughter wasn't just mocking the World Government—

It was slapping Sengoku directly in the face.

The bounty poster clearly showed its issue date. Anyone could tell it had been released during Sengoku's tenure. Such a blunder reflected a severe failure in Marine intelligence.

"What's so funny?! Are you mocking the entire Navy?!"

Sengoku slammed his hand on the table and stood up, his expression stormy enough to drip water.

Even Garp quickly suppressed his laughter.

The grandfather and grandson really were alike—both utterly lacking in tact.

Enraged, Sengoku immediately issued punishment orders.

The head of Marine Intelligence was dismissed on the spot. The deputy would temporarily take over, with strict orders to:

Reevaluate all pirate bounties

Coordinate thoroughly with the World Government's intelligence division

Ensure such humiliating mistakes never happened again

This wasn't just about accuracy—it was about the dignity of both organizations.

Nearby, Chief of Staff Tsuru calmly took notes.

As the most strategic mind in the Marines, she had already formed a new plan.

"Tony Tony Chopper joined a pirate crew in the future—but his nature isn't evil. I suggest we try to recruit him."

She continued:

"Even setting aside that so-called 'divine medicine,' the Rumble Ball alone would be immensely valuable to the Marines."

There was no shortage of Zoan users within the Navy.

If they could obtain Chopper's research, it would dramatically enhance the strength of mid- and lower-ranking forces.

But Tsuru's greatest concern was something else—

If one of the Four Emperors got to him first.

On Onigashima…

"Tony Tony Chopper…! Perfect. This is exactly the kind of talent we need!"

Kaido, the unpredictable Emperor, burst into tears of excitement.

At last—the Beast Pirates had found the right person.

Beside him stood King, one of the Three Calamities and the crew's strongest subordinate. Cloaked in black flames, he immediately volunteered to personally go to Drum Island and "invite" this future genius doctor.

After all—

A single Rumble Ball could unlock nine transformations.

For a crew dominated by Zoan users, this was irresistible.

Everyone present burned with desire.

They wanted that small yellow pill.

Immediately.

Another Calamity, Queen, who oversaw science and medicine, also recognized its value. With Chopper's addition, they might develop even more terrifying biochemical weapons.

Though… as a shut-in scientist, he had little interest in leaving the island himself.

King spoke again:

"Kaido-sama, the first half of the Grand Line isn't our territory. The Marines will definitely act before us. We need to send more forces and take Chopper from them."

His analysis was sound.

The Marines practically controlled that region.

Kaido rose, gripping his massive kanabo.

"I'll go myself."

"For talent like this… if I don't personally invite him, that would be disrespectful."

Conqueror's Haki surged outward, shaking the entire island.

This man—known as the strongest creature in the world—had long been seeking greater power.

Years of reckless, self-destructive training had brought him to a plateau.

But now—

The existence of the Rumble Ball gave him hope again.

Having eaten the Mythical Zoan Azure Dragon fruit…

What kind of transformation…

Would he achieve next?
