Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16: THE GHOST OF THE ABYSS

Darkness. Absolute, suffocating darkness.

When Takashi finally opened his eyes, he was met with the pitch-black night of the Grand Forest of Monsters. Towering, ancient trees stretched infinitely upward, their thick branches completely swallowing the sky.

RUMBLE... RUMBLE...

He was lying on the cold, damp earth right beside the raging river that had carried him here. His tiny body ached violently as he slowly pushed himself up.

A sharp, hollow pain clawed at his stomach. He was starving.

Looking around in the dim, terrifying gloom, his eyes caught the faint outline of fruit-bearing trees nearby. He dragged his exhausted body toward them, his trembling hands reaching out to pluck the strange fruits.

CRUNCH.

He ate desperately, forcing the sweet juice down his dry throat. This was his only means of survival for now.

As he sat alone in the dirt, the harsh reality of his situation crashed over him. He was a prince. He had never even imagined a life like this.

Since the day he was born, he had been surrounded by absolute care and luxury. His mother, Ema, had always hovered over him with endless affection. His father, Hayato, had loved him with a quiet but fierce devotion.

His uncle Jun had always spoiled him, treating him with boundless indulgence, while his aunt Maya smiled warmly at his every childish mischief. His maternal uncle Kazumi and aunt Tsugumi adored him, lifting his spirits whenever they visited.

And then... there was Aira. His cousin. His wife. The girl who was completely, utterly captivated by him.

But outside those palace walls, the world had treated him very differently. He rarely left the estate, but when he had to, the commoners and nobles alike stared at him.

They didn't look at him just because he was the heir of the Shizukami Clan. They stared because they couldn't comprehend how the heir to the two most powerful bloodlines in the world was a powerless, empty vessel.

They mocked his mismatched eyes. They ridiculed his dual-colored hair. They laughed at his complete lack of Shin-Noa.

To survive their cruelty, Takashi had slowly learned to adapt. He had learned to wear a mask of indifference, hiding his pain behind a blank, emotionless expression.

But now... that mask felt useless. He was entirely alone in a ruthless, unforgiving forest, thousands of miles away from the safety of his family.

Death hovered over him every single second.

Days turned into nights, and nights bled back into days. He wandered aimlessly, surviving solely on the strange jungle fruits he managed to scavenge.

SNAP... CRACK...

Countless terrifying monsters roamed the shadows. Massive beasts with glowing eyes and razor-sharp fangs would occasionally spot the tiny boy.

But they never attacked.

Instead, the moment they laid eyes on him, they would whimper and scatter in absolute terror. They weren't afraid of Takashi. They were terrified of the power seed inside him.

They feared the overwhelming aura of the Legendary Divine Spirit Wolf that leaked from his pores.

Takashi's own raw power had been completely stabilized and hidden within the Black Box seal a secret no one in the world knew. The only power visible on the outside was the Wolf's.

Takashi could only access a minuscule fraction of that power, but it didn't matter. He didn't know a single Shiritsu. He had no training. Even if he wanted to use the energy to protect himself, he couldn't.

In the suffocating silence of the forest, a cold, echoing voice would occasionally speak in his mind.

It was the Wolf.

They were bound together now two lonely outcasts entirely rejected by the world. Yet, the Wolf did not offer him comfort. It did not accept him.

Whenever the Wolf spoke, its tone was dripping with apathy and cold indifference. It only spoke to reveal the harsh, ugly truths of humanity, reminding Takashi of the betrayal that had brought them here.

It was a strange, unknown friendship where neither side actually liked the other.

Despite the isolation, Takashi remained deeply serious and overwhelmingly sad. The burning desire to avenge his father consumed his every waking thought.

When he closed his eyes, he saw his father's final, bloody smile. He saw his mother's gentle face. And, burning brightest in his memory, he saw the face of the traitor. Kazuki.

In the crushing loneliness, he remembered every single moment he had spent with his father. He remembered the warmth of his mother's embrace. He missed the affection of his uncles and aunts.

But most of all, the memory of Aira haunted him.

He finally realized how much she had genuinely cared for him. How deeply she liked him, regardless of what the world thought. And he realized, with a heavy heart of regret, how coldly he had treated her in return.

Far, far away from the darkness of the monster forest, the world had completely changed.

General Kazuki had returned to the capital of the West Land. Standing before a massive, anxious crowd, he delivered his fabricated truth.

"The hunger for ultimate power consumed them!" Kazuki's voice echoed across the plaza, heavy with fake sorrow.

"Hayato Shizukami attempted to forcibly seal the Great Divine Spirit Wolf to gain its power! But he failed! During the sealing, the Wolf killed him! It killed both him and his son, Takashi!"

The lie spread like wildfire. A massive uproar ripped through the masses.

Panic and fear gripped the people. They foolishly agreed with Kazuki, whispering that Hayato had indeed wanted to plunge the world back into the era of the most brutal, bloody wars.

From the shadows, the mysterious Shinsei Organization fanned the flames of these rumors, manipulating the public's terror to perfection.

Whispers quickly turned into demands. The people wanted General Kazuki to be crowned as the new Shin-Zenshu the Supreme Leader.

The masses were easily swayed. They supported Kazuki because, in their eyes, he had removed the greatest obstacle to their peace. Hayato Shizukami's very existence had been a massive threat to Shinsei's hidden goals, and now, he was gone.

With Hayato dead, the Shinsei Organization became far more active, yet they remained completely hidden. They were a ghost-like presence existing only in terrifying rumors.

Anyone who accidentally saw them rarely returned alive. Most were simply abducted into the night. The few who managed to escape would whisper tales of horror, but no one paid them much attention.

To this day, Shinsei's true existence and ultimate purpose remained a terrifying mystery.
