Chapter 140 - Chap.137 - Transmuter

[Congratulations, writer, on completing the acquisition of the fragments and receiving the achievement: "A Magical Journey."]

[Congratulations, writer, on receiving: "Transmuter"]

[Transmuter (Platinum)]

[Type: Class]

[Effect: Your mind has been adapted to understand the structure of matter, decompose it, and reconstruct it into a new form. Your magic is directly geared towards this purpose, making the manipulation of matter extremely natural for you. You can go beyond emulation and achieve true transformation.]

[The writer can choose between keeping, absorbing, or donating.]

A Class? The Adventure Book might even grant a 'Class'?

Hey, Book, is this class the kind I'm thinking of, the kind you see in games?

[Exactly, although you can't level up, it all depends on hard work.]

Rigel became thoughtful, reading the reward again, he couldn't help but narrow his eyes. "Book, this class... would I have received a different class if I had gone to another Hogwarts House?"

[Yes, each house has its own Class based on the head of the house.]

Rigel's lips trembled, if he had known this, he would have thought better of it!

He didn't want to ask, but curiosity got the better of him. "What were the classes of the other houses?"

The book seemed unconcerned with the question, answering it directly.

[Slytherin = Ancient Alchemist / Ravenclaw = Artificer / Hufflepuff = Druid]

Rigel looked at the options with narrowed eyes, he tried to ask what each one did, but this time the book didn't answer, he could only guess on his own.

Is Ancient Alchemist related to potions? Rigel had no idea how that could actually work, there were too many possibilities, so he ignored it.

The other two were much simpler to understand. Artifice is basically a magical engineer, but Rigel wasn't very interested in that, he preferred tinkering with potions to machines.

Being a druid, on the other hand, seemed interesting, harnessing the power of nature was tempting.

However, after looking at all the classes, he still thought the result wasn't bad, the Transmuter offered him many possibilities, and his talent for transfiguration had been greatly enhanced since then. He was even excited to try it, so he did just that, but in his dreams.

He chose to absorb it and felt the change in his mind. At first, it didn't seem like anything had happened, but when he thought about transfiguration, he felt the shift. If before it seemed complicated, now it seemed to make sense, how magic should work to alter the form of something, and even going further, he seemed to feel how to make this change permanent!

Fortunately, Rigel had the power of the coffin to sleep, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to manage it with all the enthusiasm he had now.

Early in the morning, with the sun still rising, Rigel woke up, having had a productive night's sleep. He wasn't tired at all, unlike his five other roommates.

Rigel discovered a lot about this 'class', he could alter matter, he could transform it, but if he really wanted to transform one thing into another, it depended on the magic itself. He would need to overload the spell to make it work, to change the structure by force, the magic consumed at that point was insane.

Even so, Rigel still discovered that he could do truly ridiculous things, for example, if you gave him eggs, milk, sugar, and water, he could make a pudding appear out of nowhere, not the kind that just looks like a pudding, but a real pudding.

Sure, he spent quite a while trying, he only succeeded because he really knew how to make the Pudding. The transmutation seemed to use chaos to generate order, very different from standard magic, which relied more on emotion.

Even without that, if he had the right compounds at the molecular level, it was still possible, and it was incredibly easier than, for example, turning water into wine.

He didn't even need his wand for that, just as the book warned, his magic seemed to flow with a clear purpose, as if transformation were the basis of his magic. If water magic feels like a connection, Transmutation magic feels like something completely natural, innate, no different from raising or lowering an arm.

Rigel sensed that this class had even greater possibilities, but he was still far from reaching its full potential. For example, he could achieve Calypso's effect by rearranging his structure and transforming into anything, or even heal wounds with a thought, and that was all Rigel could think of in one night. He did not dare let his thoughts wander to the transmutation of souls.

He tried to 'transmute' himself, but he couldn't, well, he could, but the result was disappointing. He didn't understand what he was doing and killed himself many times. He was like a child running around with a gun, shooting himself repeatedly. In the end, he gave up. This class used knowledge to change the world, he needed to understand his own body first in order to transform it.

This would take time, but for now, Rigel ignored it and began his day.

He was the first to wake up and go to the bathroom. When he returned, he saw Dean Thomas with a tired, groggy face. He had been woken up by Jack, who had gotten up at some point and started jumping from bed to bed. The other boys didn't wake up, but Dean had the misfortune of Jack landing exactly on his face.

He looked at the monkey, annoyed and exasperated, but in the end he let it go.

"Good morning, Jack." He said, only to notice Rigel coming out of the bathroom. "Good morning, Rigel, Jack looks hungry."

The monkey squealed excitedly toward Rigel, he was truly hungry.

Rigel rolled his eyes at him, remembered the cupcake he had brought for Jack, and handed it to the monkey.

Jack took the cupcake and ate it excitedly. He still remembered Kreacher's lessons, so he ate slowly, not getting all messy. Dean found the monkey's movements interesting enough not to go back to sleep. Instead, after having some fun with Jack, taking some candies he had for him, Dean went to the bathroom to freshen up.

There were still a few hours before the first class, so Rigel didn't want to wake his other roommates. Instead, he asked Dean if he wanted to go explore the 'terrain' with him, and Dean happily agreed.

The pair left, with Jack on Rigel's shoulder, now able to get a good look around. As soon as they exited the room, he darted forward and began surveying everything, careful not to stray too far from Rigel.

They soon left the Gryffindor dormitory.

There were one hundred and forty-two staircases in Hogwarts, wide and imposing, narrow and precarious, some that led to a different place on Fridays, others with a step in the middle that disappeared and the person had to remember to jump over it.

The portraits could move, just like the suits of armor, so they couldn't serve as a point of reference either. The ghosts could be useful, as long as you found the right one, especially nearly headless Nick, but Peeves, on the other hand, did the exact opposite, pointing out two paths and neither was the right one.

In any case, navigating Hogwarts was complicated, that is, if you didn't have a compass pointing you in the right direction. Rigel soon discovered that the compass was a much more useful tool than it seemed in that place.

"My mother is a Muggle, I lost my father very early, I don't even remember him. At first, we thought I was Muggle-born, until a friend of my father's appeared. My father was a wizard, an Auror, you know?" Dean seemed incredibly proud as he said this, chattering away as they navigated the corridors. He let Rigel guide them, not seeming at all concerned about the route.

He seemed to wilt for a moment before continuing. "I found out that my father died fighting Death Eaters."

Rigel looked at him, patting him on the shoulder, and the boy just perked up again. "I really admire him, you know? I want to be an Auror like him and fight dark wizards!"

Rigel didn't take Dean's words seriously, he was just a child, there was still enough time to decide what he wanted to be, but he spoke anyway. "Well, I'll count on you to protect me until then."

"Of course." Dean smiled, patting his chest with pride, as if he had already seen himself in an Auror's robes.
