Chapter 31 - CHAPTER THIRTY - ONE

FRAMED AND FORSAKEN

The days at Mira's apartment blurred together, each one a mix of restless nights and careful attempts to process the chaos that Selena had unleashed. Hazel sat by the window, her phone balanced between her trembling fingers and her lap, watching the sun rise over Ravencrest City.

She had tried calling Lucian repeatedly over the past few days. His name had become a fragile thread in her mind, one she clung to, even as her anxiety gnawed at her. But every call went unanswered, every message left in digital limbo.

"Why won't he answer?" Hazel whispered to herself, frustration and hurt mingling in her voice. "Does he even know what's happened?"

Mira, sitting nearby with a stack of project files for the Lang-Fu client, glanced at her friend with concern. "Hazel… don't push him right now. He's probably busy, and… I don't know, maybe he's trying to sort out something. You know Lucian. But we've got bigger things to focus on—you can't let Selena's games distract you."

Hazel ran her fingers through her hair, exhaling shakily. "I know, Mira… but it feels like he's abandoning me. I'm not sure what's worse—the danger, the lies, or his silence."

Meanwhile, at Black Global Empire, chaos had erupted. Victor Black had returned from abroad, a sly smile hiding the darkness behind his intentions. While Lucian's attention had been pulled to the aftermath of Selena's manipulations, Victor saw an opportunity—and he took it.

A confidential company file, detailing sensitive client strategies and proprietary designs, had somehow made its way into the wrong hands. The board demanded answers, panic filling the air of the usually controlled, sleek offices.

And Victor, ever the manipulator, wasted no time. He pointed the finger at Hazel.

"She had access," Victor said smoothly, every word dripping with false concern. "She was responsible for the Lang-Fu project files. If anyone is at fault… it's her."

Hazel, unaware of this unfolding storm, had tried to return to work, to prove that she could handle her new role with competence and poise. But as she walked into the office that morning, the whispers began.

"Did you hear? Hazel leaked the Lang-Fu files?"

"Why would Lucian trust her again?"

"She's clearly not ready for the responsibility."

Her heart raced. The anger she felt toward Selena's previous schemes mixed with the rising panic of being blamed for something she hadn't done.

Hazel tried to speak, to explain herself. "I… I didn't—"

Victor interrupted, his voice calm but razor-sharp. "Hazel, sit down. This isn't up for debate. The evidence is clear. The board is questioning your oversight. Until this is resolved… you'll remain under investigation."

Mira, who had insisted on coming with her, shot Victor a cold glare. "You're framing her! This isn't fair, and you know it!"

Victor's smile was nothing short of sinister. "Fair? Business isn't fair, Mira. She needs to learn that the world doesn't bend for anyone. Not even Hazel Vale."

Hazel's chest tightened. The office that had once felt like her sanctuary now felt like a cage. Every colleague's glance, every whispered conversation, felt like a dagger. Her reputation—years of hard work, dedication, and triumphs—was being shredded by lies.

She tried calling Lucian again. Nothing.

Each failed attempt compounded the growing sense of isolation, fear, and betrayal. How could the man who had loved her, who had promised to protect her, not believe in her now?

By mid-afternoon, Hazel had retreated to her office, locking the door behind her. She sank into her chair, heart racing, mind spinning. Her hands trembled as she reviewed the files in question, searching for any clue, any evidence that could clear her name.

Victor's deception was clever. He had covered his tracks well. But Hazel Vale wasn't someone who surrendered easily. She had survived Ivy's schemes, Selena's manipulations, and even the night she had been kidnapped. This was another challenge—a battlefield she would not flee.

Her phone buzzed again. Another message. She froze. The sender? Unknown.

The text read:

"You can't hide from the truth. Lucian will never trust you again if you don't admit what you did. –V"

Hazel's stomach dropped. Victor wasn't just framing her professionally—he was trying to undermine her relationship with Lucian as well, to poison the trust that had taken months to build.

Her hands clenched around the phone. Rage, despair, and determination collided. She refused to let Victor's lies define her.

"I didn't do anything wrong," she whispered, voice trembling but firm. "And I'm going to prove it."

Hours passed in tense silence, broken only by the occasional tap of keys and the distant hum of the office machinery. Hazel combed through every file, every email, every access log, seeking the one clue that could expose Victor's treachery.

And slowly, almost imperceptibly, she began to see it—a discrepancy, subtle but undeniable, in the file access logs. Someone had manipulated timestamps, rerouted certain communications, and then made it look like Hazel had been careless.

A spark of hope ignited within her. She wasn't defeated. Not yet.

Meanwhile, Lucian sat in his office, his chest tight, his mind a storm of confusion and fear. The pictures Selena had sent him haunted him. Every instinct screamed that Hazel wasn't at fault, but his pride, concern, and disbelief had made him hesitate, leaving Hazel isolated during her most vulnerable moments.

He finally looked at the incoming messages, each one filled with Victor's subtle poison, claiming Hazel had betrayed the company. His jaw clenched.

Lucian's gaze hardened. He didn't understand everything yet—but he knew one thing clearly: he would not let Hazel face this alone, no matter the cost.

Back in her office, Hazel's resolve hardened. She would uncover the truth, expose Victor, and restore her place at Black Global Empire.

And when Lucian finally realized the depth of the lies, he would see her strength, her resilience—and he would understand that nothing, not even Victor or Selena, could shake what they had built together.
