Chapter 30 - CHAPTER THIRTY

KIDNAPPED SHADOWS

Hazel Vale's footsteps pounded against the cold pavement, her mind ablaze with anger and betrayal. The images she had received earlier still haunted her, each pixel a dagger. Lucian's supposed infidelity, Selena's manipulations—it was a storm she hadn't asked for but couldn't ignore.

Her chest heaved as she rounded a quiet street, desperate for space, air, and clarity. Her hand trembled, gripping her purse tightly. She needed to think. She needed to escape…

But in the shadows, a sleek black SUV slowed to a crawl, headlights dimmed. Hazel's pulse quickened, instincts screaming danger, but before she could react, strong arms pulled her inside.

"Hazel Vale," a cold voice purred, almost familiar. "Going somewhere?"

Her heart lurched as the interior of the car swallowed her, darkness pressing close. She struggled, but the assailants were precise, professional. The world tilted violently as a cloth pressed against her face.

Everything blurred. Panic clawed at her chest as consciousness wavered.

When Hazel awoke, her head throbbed, her body weak, her vision hazy. She was in a dimly lit room, unfamiliar, sterile yet unsettling. A bitter taste lingered on her tongue. Panic flared.

"Selena…" Hazel whispered, her voice trembling.

Selena Moore emerged from the shadows, her smile sharp, predatory. "Ah… awake at last. You look… even more beautiful than I imagined."

Hazel's stomach twisted. She realized immediately what Selena had in mind.

"You won't have to worry about Lucian for a little while," Selena said, glancing at two young men standing near the door, their faces unreadable. "I'll make sure he thinks you've betrayed him."

Hazel's blood ran cold. She struggled weakly against her restraints, fury battling fear. "You won't get away with this."

Selena tilted her head, amused. "Oh, but I already have, dear Hazel. Look at your phone."

Hazel's hands shook as Selena tossed her phone onto the bed. Images flooded the screen—pictures of Hazel with the men in compromising, exotic poses, carefully staged and clearly meant to inflict maximum psychological pain.

Hazel's heart sank. The betrayal wasn't real—but it looked real, every detail orchestrated to perfection. She felt the familiar, suffocating knot of fear and rage tighten in her chest.

Selena's voice was soft now, almost seductive. "Lucian is going to be so… disappointed. So heartbroken. And there's nothing he can do, not until I allow it."

Hazel clenched her fists. "You think this will break me? You think manipulating him will win?"

Selena's smile widened. "Oh, it will. It already has started. And by the time he realizes the truth… well, it will be too late."

Time blurred. Hazel's panic threatened to overwhelm her, but she refused to succumb. She had survived bullying, Ivy Clarke's schemes, Victor's whispers, and even Lucian's absence. She would survive this too.

Hours later, Selena's plan took a turn. The men who had held Hazel released her unceremoniously, leaving her on a deserted road far from the city center. Dazed, shivering, and weak, Hazel struggled to her feet, the wind biting at her skin.

Her breath came in ragged gasps. Her mind raced through every possible plan, every escape route—but the city streets were empty, unfamiliar, and threatening.

And then, a familiar voice cut through the night.

"Hazel! Hazel, hold on!"

Mira's car skidded to a stop, tires crunching over gravel. Hazel's heart leapt. Relief flooded through her, tears threatening to fall. She stumbled toward the car, collapsing into Mira's arms.

"You're safe now," Mira said firmly, her eyes scanning the empty streets before pulling Hazel into the vehicle. "Don't even think about standing up again until we get you home."

Hazel nodded weakly, her body trembling from adrenaline, exhaustion, and fear. She sank into the backseat, grateful for Mira's presence, for her loyalty, for the comfort of someone who always had her back.

Mira drove them to her apartment, silent but tense, the city lights flashing past in streaks of yellow and red. Hazel leaned against the seat, her mind racing. Selena had not only endangered her physically but had also struck at the most vulnerable point: her trust with Lucian.

Once inside Mira's apartment, Hazel finally let herself collapse on the couch. Mira wrapped a blanket around her shoulders, her expression a mix of worry and determination.

"Selena's not going to win, Hazel," Mira said firmly. "We'll figure out how to fix this, and Lucian will know the truth. You're not alone."

Hazel exhaled shakily. "I just… I don't know how to face him now. He'll see the pictures, and he'll—he'll hate me. Or worse, he'll think I betrayed him."

Mira shook her head. "He won't. Lucian knows you. He trusts you. You two… you're stronger than Selena thinks. But for now, you rest. We deal with the rest together."

Hazel leaned back, tears finally slipping down her cheeks. She felt a strange mixture of exhaustion and resolve. The night had been terrifying, the betrayal convincing, but she refused to be broken.

Selena, somewhere out there, had thought she could manipulate emotions, plant seeds of distrust, and isolate Hazel from Lucian. But Hazel Vale was not so easily defeated.

In the quiet of Mira's apartment, Hazel vowed silently: she would confront Selena. She would protect what she and Lucian had built. And she would survive.

The night stretched on, shadows heavy against the walls, but Hazel knew one thing clearly: the war of hearts and power was far from over.

And when Lucian finally saw the truth… Selena would regret ever trying to come between them.
