Chapter 9 - Rainbow

It's been a week of our practice; we are friends now.

We've talked a lot during these days.

Yesterday, Zinnia called me. I told her about the dance competition, and she said she had no issue with it.

Tomorrow is my birthday. Steve doesn't have any idea! Zinnia wanted to celebrate, but since only a few days are left for the dance competition, I'll just go for practice tomorrow. Anyway, I don't even like my birthdays.

I went to his house.

Steve came running down the stairs and held my hand.

"Come, I need to show you something," he said.

We went to his terrace.

There was a rainbow.

I don't know why, but he was so excited to show it to me. Steve calls me a kid, but according to me, he is the little kid. How could Zinnia do such things to him? How could she play with his feelings?

"Do you like it, El?" he asked.

"Yes, a lot," I replied.

"When I was a kid, I used to spend my whole day on the terrace, and I often saw rainbows. I love rainbows," he said.

"Hey, can we stay here for a while? I don't know why, but I feel so good here," I said.

"Sure," he replied.

We sat there for a while.

"Steve, can I ask you something?" I said.

"Sure," he replied.

"Where are your parents? It's been a week, and I haven't seen them," I asked.

"They don't live with me. They spend their time in different places for their business. I spent my childhood all alone, and now I don't even care about them," he replied.

"But they are still your parents, Steve," I said.

"Whatever. I don't care about them. They abandoned me. Everybody hurt and abandoned me in the end, so I don't care about anybody now," he replied.

I didn't say anything.

"Listen to this song," he said while giving me one of his AirPods. The other one was in his ear.

"Damn, I love this song," I said.

"Me too," he replied.

"I guess we have the same music taste," I said.

"No, mine is more goated," he replied.
