Aldera Junior High School.
Looking at the empty seat, Katsuki Bakugo, still covered in bruises, felt a wave of irritation wash over him.
His two lackeys, the ones who usually followed him around, remembered how they'd bailed and left him behind when Arthur Pendragon went off on them last weekend. They kept their distance now, sitting quietly at their desks.
Even after the bell rang, Arthur Pendragon still didn't show up to class.
Honestly, everyone in the class felt relieved.
Arthur's punishment was a temporary suspension, but he hadn't lost his right to attend classes. If he behaved himself, there was still a chance they'd lift the suspension with almost a year left in the school term.
Had he just given up?
To be honest, even though it seemed like Arthur hadn't stepped in to save him that weekend, Izuku Midoriya still wanted to thank him.
It would be such a waste if he threw his future away like this.
He had such a powerful Quirk... Izuku Midoriya, Quirkless, pressed his lips together, his expression complicated.
Frustration, regret, sadness, resentment... A week passed quickly, and Arthur still hadn't come to class.
That only made Izuku and Katsuki more convinced that he'd given up on himself.
But they definitely didn't believe Arthur was staying away because he was scared of Katsuki.
Probably some other reason... But then that weekend came.
U.A. High School, outside a classroom.
Present Mic shouted in his signature loud voice to the dozens of students with recommendation exam numbers pinned to their clothes, "Alright! Alright! All 42 recommendation students are here! You'll head into the classroom one by one for a written test, then go to the field for a physical fitness test, and finally, an interview."
Mic held up four fingers. "Listen up, only four of you are actually getting in!"
"A written test, huh..."
Arthur , wearing the number 42 on his shirt, looked completely over it. His face practically screamed "I hate exams."
Ever since he ended up in this world, he'd put all his energy into training his body and his Quirk. He hadn't studied at all and honestly, he hated it even more than he had in his previous life.
"Whatever. If it doesn't work out, whatever. Being a villain could be fun too."
While no one was paying attention, a pretty dangerous thought had already crossed Arthur's mind.
"Um, hello... it's Arthur, right?"
A girl's voice came from in front of him.
Arthur snapped out of it and looked up to see a pair of huge... breasts.
No, it was the ponytail girl from last week.
"Your name... I think it was..." Arthur tried to remember. "Yaoya..."
"My name is Momo Yaoyorozu. Nice to meet you."
The ponytail girl, who definitely had at least an E-cup stretched out her right hand toward Arthur.
He lightly shook her soft hand, which was way softer than the hands of the two girls he'd been with last night.
Arthur quickly let go, saying matter-of-factly, "Hey, Yaoyorozu, let me copy your answers later, yeah?"
Yaoyorozu's pretty face showed genuine surprise. She clearly hadn't expected Arthur to say something like that.
Her expression turned serious, and she shook her head firmly. "Arthur, you can't think like that. That's not how you become an excellent hero."
"Ha, you're pretty strict, huh? Girls like that aren't popular, you know."
Arthur chuckled, walked into the classroom, and added silently, Nice tits though.
Momo Yaoyorozu frowned slightly. She didn't seem too happy with Arthur's attitude, but she followed him into the classroom anyway.
Honestly, she hadn't expected Arthur to also be a recommendation student.
His attitude just didn't seem very hero-like at all.
The test papers started getting handed out.
Arthur felt annoyed just looking at the test title.
Most subjects were the same as what regular students took English, Japanese, math, physics but there were hero course-specific questions too.
Like the first steps for rescuing victims. How to handle enemies stronger than yourself. Stuff like that.
Arthur pretty much just wrote his name and recommendation number and then
Multiple choice: all C.
True/false: all false.
Essay questions: copied half the prompt and made up some bullshit explanation.
He finished in less than fifteen minutes, tossed his paper down, and walked out.
"This guy..."
"He finished that fast?"
"No way. Is his Quirk some brain thing?"
The other recommendation students, most barely halfway through the first page were all stunned.
The guy sitting to Arthur's left, with half-white, half-red hair and a burn scar on his left cheek, glanced over at Arthur's desk.
The paper was basically blank.
"What's this guy thinking?"
He muttered to himself, then turned back to his own test.
Present Mic, who was proctoring, walked over out of curiosity.
He picked up Arthur's paper and nearly choked.
Fully annoyed, Mic collected the paper and put it on the podium, thinking to himself, This kid's something else.
"Those who finished the written exam, wait here for a bit. The next practical exam will be at the USJ disaster simulation facility."
As soon as Arthur stepped out, a lazy voice reached his ears.
He looked up and saw a middle-aged guy in a black bodysuit with a capture weapon wrapped around his neck. His messy long hair looked like it hadn't been washed in forever, and his tired, bloodshot eyes made him look like some random homeless dude off the street.
Shota Aizawa.
"Where's the bathroom?"
Arthur paused for a second, then asked.
Aizawa raised a finger and pointed to the right. "At the end of the hall."
"Oh, thanks."
Arthur turned and left.
The reason Aizawa was posted outside the classroom was to use his Quirk to catch any students trying to cheat.
After using the bathroom, Arthur ran into a skinny guy in a yellow suit who looked like a walking skeleton.
The guy froze when he saw him, then awkwardly raised his hand. "Oh? Arthur, you finished the written exam pretty fast?"
All Might?
Well, technically this was the form he was stuck in most of the time now. Not that the general public knew about it.
Arthur thought for a second, then decided to play dumb. "Do I know you?"
All Might's expression stiffened. He suddenly realized how he looked right now, coughed a few times, and tried to cover. "Ah, I-I'm also a teacher at U.A., you know. I've seen your file, hahaha..."
"Really? What's your name then?"
Arthur's lips curled up slightly as he put the guy on the spot.
"Uh... that, well..."
All Might stammered, totally stuck.
"Heh. Fine, don't tell me then. But can you get me All Might's autograph? I want to give it to two women."
"Huh?"
Arthur smiled faintly. "The two girls who just became 'women.' I promised them."
He wasn't really looking to get serious with them, but since he'd taken their first time, Arthur figured he'd at least help with this small thing.
"Ahaha, no, no problem. I'll find All Might and get it to you after the exam, hahaha..."
Just thinking about the speakerphone noises he'd overheard earlier made All Might want to die inside.
"Cool. Thanks."
Arthur grinned and walked off.
After the written exam, the practical started.
They took a bus there.
The destination was an indoor facility called USJ, designed for disaster training.
"Arthur, are you okay? On the written exam..."
Momo Yaoyorozu sat next to Arthur, thinking back to how he'd finished so fast, and couldn't help asking.
"Who knows? If I don't pass, it's your fault for not letting me copy."
Arthur shrugged.
"I told you I can't do that!"
The tall girl pouted and shot back. "Arthur, you're the one who needs to take this seriously if you want to be a hero!"
Arthur rolled his eyes. He decided to let the honor student's advice go in one ear and out the other.
"Hey everyone! I'm Inasa yoarashi! Let's all do our best on the exam!"
A head popped up from the seat behind them.
Some guy with a buzz cut was practically yelling, making Arthur frown. "You're way too loud. Keep it down."
"Sorry! I'm just so hyped to be taking the exam at Japan's top hero school!"
Even though he apologized, Inasa didn't lower his voice at all.
"Um, hello... I'm Momo Yaoyorozu, and this is Arthur Pendragon. Arthur helped my family's bank before..."
Momo introduced herself with a strained smile, clearly a little overwhelmed by how intense this guy was.
"Nice to meet you! Nice to meet you!"
Inasa kept shouting at full volume.
When they got to the USJ training ground, everyone was amazed by all the different disaster zones inside.
Present Mic gave a thumbs up and announced, somehow even louder than Inasa "Next is the practical test, which counts for the most points: a three-kilometer marathon!"
He pointed to a tall peak in the flood zone behind him, where a finish gate with ribbon was set up.
Present Mic continued, "Feel free to use your Quirks, and aim for first place!"
"Yeah!!"
The students shouted back.
Inasa was the loudest.
"Quick question,"
Arthur spoke up. "Is messing with other participants allowed?"
Present Mic paused, then grinned. "No problem. U.A. picks the best heroes through competition anyway."
"If there are no other questions, line up at the start!"
Following Present Mic's instruction, Arthur, Momo, Inasa, and the others lined up behind the white starting line.
For some reason, Arthur actually looked focused this time. He took the middle position first, which made Momo glance at him curiously.
"Ready..."
Present Mic raised his right hand, and two seconds later, swung it down sharply. "Go!!!"
"The World!!!"
The moment Present Mic said "go," Arthur summoned his Stand.
