Chapter 12 - THE CLUE HE LEFT BEHIND

The air outside felt heavier than before.

Ayla could feel it the moment she stepped out with Zayn. The tension had not disappeared... it had only shifted.

And somehow, it felt worse.

"Stay close," Zayn said without looking at her.

This time, Ayla did not argue.

She walked beside him, her senses sharper than ever. Every sound, every movement around them felt amplified.

Something was coming.

She could feel it.

The guards were already alert, moving quickly across the entrance area. The aftermath of the earlier attack was still visible. Broken glass. Shifted furniture.

Traces of chaos.

But what caught Ayla's attention was something else.

A small piece of paper on the floor.

She frowned slightly.

"Wait," she said, stepping forward before Zayn could stop her.

"Ayla," Zayn warned.

But she had already bent down.

The paper was folded, slightly torn, as if it had fallen during the chaos. Her fingers hesitated for a second before picking it up.

"What is it?" Zayn asked, his tone sharper now.

Ayla unfolded the paper slowly.

Her eyes scanned the words.

And her heart stopped.

"Warehouse 17. Midnight."

The message was simple.

But it carried weight.

Zayn's expression darkened the moment he saw it.

"Give it to me," he said.

Ayla held it for a second longer.

"Is this connected to them?" she asked.

Zayn did not answer.

Which was already an answer.

"It is not safe," he said instead.

Ayla looked at him.

"When has anything been safe since I met you?" she replied.

Silence.

Zayn took the paper from her hand.

His jaw tightened slightly as he read it again.

"It is a trap," he said.

Ayla crossed her arms.

"Then why do I feel like you are still going to go?"

Zayn did not deny it.

"Because if I do not," he said, "they will come again."

Ayla's chest tightened.

"And this time... it will not stop at threats."

The words sent a chill through her.

"Then I am coming with you," she said immediately.

Zayn's head snapped toward her.

"No."

The answer was instant.

Firm.

"You are not going anywhere near that place."

Ayla stepped closer.

"And you are not going alone," she replied.

Zayn's eyes narrowed.

"This is not a discussion."

"And I am not asking," she shot back.

For a moment, the tension between them returned.

Strong.

Unyielding.

"You do not understand what you are walking into," Zayn said.

Ayla held his gaze.

"Then make me understand."

Silence.

Zayn exhaled slowly, clearly frustrated.

"That place," he said, "is not just a location."

"It is where deals happen."

"Illegal ones."

"Dangerous ones."

Ayla's heartbeat picked up.

"And you still want to go?" he asked.

"Yes."

No hesitation.

Zayn stared at her.

Long.

Carefully.

"You are not backing down," he said.

Ayla shook her head.

"No."

Another pause.

Then finally...

Zayn spoke.

"Fine."

Ayla blinked slightly.

Surprised.

"But you stay behind me," he added.

"You do exactly what I say."

Ayla nodded once.

"Good," Zayn said.

Because this time...

There was no turning back.

The rest of the day passed in preparation.

Zayn made calls. Gave orders. Set things in motion.

The entire mansion shifted into a different mode.

More alert.

More dangerous.

Ayla watched everything.

Learning.

Observing.

This was his world.

And she was stepping deeper into it.

Night came faster than expected.

By the time the clock moved closer to midnight...

Everything was ready.

Zayn stood near the entrance, dressed in black, his expression unreadable.

Ayla joined him.

"Still sure about this?" he asked.

Ayla met his gaze.

"Yes."

Zayn studied her for a moment.

Then nodded.

"Then do not slow me down," he said.

And just like that...

They left.

The drive was silent.

The city lights faded as they moved further away, replaced by darkness and empty roads.

Ayla's heart beat faster with every passing minute.

When they finally stopped...

She understood why.

The warehouse stood alone.

Old.

Abandoned.

But not empty.

Lights flickered inside.

Shadows moved.

Ayla swallowed hard.

"This is it," Zayn said.

And without waiting...

He stepped forward.

Ayla followed.

Because whatever waited inside...

Was already waiting for them.
