Chapter 16 - THE GAME WAS NEVER WHAT IT SEEMED

Everything Ayla believed until now…

Was only the beginning.

The warehouse stood still.

But the tension had changed.

It was no longer just about survival.

It was something else now.

Something deeper.

Ayla's eyes remained locked on her father as he stepped forward, closer to the men who had surrounded them.

Each step he took felt heavier than the last.

Final.

"Stop!" she said.

But he did not.

Her chest tightened.

"This is not the way," she added, her voice breaking slightly.

Still, he kept walking.

Zayn's grip on her arm tightened slightly.

Not to hurt.

But to stop her.

"Let me go," she said.

"No," Zayn replied calmly.

Ayla turned toward him, frustration clear in her eyes.

"He is walking into a trap!"

Zayn did not react the way she expected.

Instead, his gaze remained fixed ahead.

Cold.

Focused.

"He knows what he is doing," Zayn said.

That answer made no sense to her.

"How can you be so sure?" she asked.

Zayn finally looked at her.

"Because this is not the first time," he said.

Ayla froze.

"What do you mean?"

But before he could answer-

Her father stopped walking.

Right in front of the man.

The leader smiled slowly.

"So, you finally decided to be reasonable," he said.

Ayla's heart pounded.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

Her father lifted his hands slightly.

"I told you," he said. "I will give you what you want."

The man stepped closer.

"Then do it," he said.

Silence.

Ayla held her breath.

And then-

Her father smiled.

A calm, almost dangerous smile.

"No."

The word hit like a shockwave.

Everything changed.

The man's expression darkened instantly.

"What did you just say?" he asked.

"I said no," her father repeated.

Ayla's eyes widened.

"What is he doing?" she whispered.

Zayn's expression did not change.

"He is playing his move," he said.

Before anyone could react-

A loud sound echoed.

Not a gunshot.

Something else.

A signal.

Within seconds-

The warehouse lights flickered…

Then shut off completely.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Ayla gasped.

"What is happening?"

Her heartbeat skyrocketed.

Voices erupted.

Footsteps echoed.

Confusion spread instantly.

And in the middle of it-

Zayn moved.

Fast.

Precise.

"Ayla," he said quietly.

"Stay with me."

Before she could respond, he pulled her forward, guiding her through the chaos as if he could see everything clearly even in the dark.

"How do you know where to go?" she asked.

"I planned this," he replied.

Ayla froze for a split second.

"You what?"

But there was no time to question him.

The sound of struggle filled the air.

Men shouting.

Running.

Losing control.

And then-

Lights came back.

But the scene had changed completely.

Several men were already down.

Others were disoriented.

The leader looked around, furious.

"What is this?" he shouted.

Zayn stepped forward.

"This," he said calmly, "is where your control ends."

Ayla stared at him.

This was different.

This was not the same man she had met before.

This was someone else.

Someone dangerous.

Someone in control.

Her father stepped back toward them.

"Now you see," he said quietly.

Ayla looked between them.

"You both planned this?" she asked.

Zayn did not deny it.

"We had to," he said.

Ayla felt a mix of emotions hit her at once.

Shock.

Anger.

Relief.

"You used me," she said.

"No," Zayn replied.

He stepped closer.

"We protected you."

The difference mattered.

But it did not feel better.

The leader laughed again.

But this time, there was anger behind it.

"You think this is over?" he said.

Zayn's expression did not change.

"It just started," he replied.

Ayla felt a chill run down her spine.

Because deep down…

She knew he was right.

This was not the end.

This was the beginning of something much bigger.

And for the first time…

She was no longer just surviving.

She was part of the game.
