Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 – Blood Bonds

The city no longer felt like a place Adam had entered.

It felt like something that had claimed him.

New York breathed differently now. Every shadow held secrets. Every corner whispered danger. And tonight… the air itself felt heavier, charged with something unseen.

Adam stood at the edge of the rooftop, the cold wind brushing against his face. Below, the city stretched endlessly — alive, restless, predatory.

Behind him, Lia stepped closer.

"You feel it too, don't you?" she said softly.

Adam didn't turn immediately. "Yeah… like something's coming."

"Not something," she replied.

Her voice dropped.

"Everything."

The Pack's Decision

Deep beneath the city, inside an abandoned subway tunnel, the wolf pack gathered. Shadows flickered across cracked walls as dim lights struggled to stay alive.

Marcus stood at the center, his presence commanding silence.

"He's not one of us," one of the wolves growled. "We don't know what he is."

Another added, "And yet enemies are already moving because of him."

Adam remained still, feeling every eye on him. Judgment. Suspicion.

Then Lia stepped forward.

"I trust him."

Silence.

That one sentence changed everything.

Marcus studied her carefully. "Trust is not given lightly."

Lia didn't back down. "Then let him prove it."

Adam finally spoke, his voice calm but firm:

"I'm not asking for your trust. Just don't stand in my way."

A low growl echoed through the tunnel… but Marcus raised his hand.

"Then you'll earn your place," he said.

"And tonight… you fight with us."

The Hunt Begins

They didn't wait long.

A scream echoed from above the tunnels — sharp, human… terrified.

Adam's head snapped up. Lia's eyes changed instantly, glowing faintly.

"Vampires," she whispered.

The pack moved as one. Fast. Silent. Deadly.

Adam followed, his heart pounding—not from fear… but anticipation.

They burst onto the street.

Three vampires stood over a fallen human, their movements calm, controlled… predatory.

One of them turned slowly, smiling.

"Well… the city sends me a gift."

Battle and Instinct

The fight exploded instantly.

Wolves lunged. Claws met flesh. Fangs clashed with unnatural speed.

Adam moved without thinking.

A vampire charged him — faster than anything he'd faced before.

But Adam adapted.

He caught the strike mid-air, twisting, slamming the creature into the ground with brutal force. The street cracked beneath them.

"Not human…" the vampire hissed.

Adam's eyes darkened.

"I know."

Behind him, Lia fought with lethal grace — but suddenly—

A second vampire appeared behind her.

Too fast. Too close.

Adam's instincts screamed.

He moved before thinking.

He grabbed the attacker mid-lunge, pulling it away from Lia, taking the hit himself. Pain shot through his side—but he didn't let go.

He crushed the vampire into the wall with raw force.

Silence followed.

The First Real Connection

The fight ended quickly after that.

The remaining vampires retreated into the night.

The street fell silent again… but something had changed.

Lia walked toward Adam slowly.

"You took that hit for me."

Adam exhaled, slightly breathless. "Didn't think. Just moved."

She stepped closer. Too close.

Rain began to fall again, softly this time.

Her hand touched his arm — gently, but intentionally.

"You could've died."

Adam looked into her eyes.

"So could you."

Silence.

The world around them faded.

No wolves. No city. No enemies.

Just them.

Her fingers tightened slightly on his arm… then slowly slid down to his hand.

She didn't let go.

Neither did he.

Something deeper had begun. Not just trust…

a bond.

Cliffhanger – A Greater Threat

From the rooftop above… someone was watching.

A figure cloaked in darkness. Still. Patient.

"Interesting…" the voice whispered.

"Not human… not vampire… not wolf."

A faint smile appeared in the shadows.

"He will belong to us."

The figure vanished.

And below, Adam felt it — a sudden chill down his spine.

The war had just begun.
