Chapter 14 - Chapter 14 – Stay With Me

Darkness faded slowly.

Not all at once—like a broken signal returning piece by piece.

Pain came first.

Sharp. Deep. Familiar.

Then sound.

Then breath.

Then awareness.

Adam opened his eyes.

The ceiling above him was rough stone, cracked and damp, lit by a weak flickering light that barely fought the shadows.

He tried to move.

A sharp pain shot through his body instantly.

"…damn it…"

His muscles refused to fully obey.

A voice answered immediately.

"Don't move."

Adam turned his head slightly.

Lia was sitting beside him.

Still.

Watching.

Her hair was messy, her clothes torn from the previous fight, small wounds visible across her skin—but she didn't seem to notice any of it.

Her eyes were locked on him.

Intense.

Focused.

Almost afraid.

"You're awake…" she said quietly.

Adam exhaled slowly. "How long was I out?"

"Not long," she replied quickly. Then after a pause, softer: "But long enough."

Silence settled between them.

Heavy.

Unfinished.

Lia lowered her gaze for a moment.

Then spoke again, more carefully this time.

"You scared me."

Adam didn't answer immediately.

Because for once… he didn't have something sharp or confident to say.

The memory was still there.

The man.

The pressure.

The word that kept repeating in his mind.

Created.

"I'm fine," he said finally.

Lia shook her head slightly.

"No… you're not."

Her voice wasn't arguing.

It was certain.

She leaned in slightly.

Not invading.

Not rushing.

Just… closer.

Careful, like he might break.

Her hand slowly reached his arm.

Warm.

Real.

Solid.

"You didn't run," she said.

Adam frowned slightly. "I wasn't going to leave you."

Her grip tightened just a little.

"…that's exactly what I'm talking about."

That sentence lingered in the air.

He didn't respond.

Neither did she let go.

The silence between them changed.

It was no longer empty.

It was heavy with something unspoken.

Lia hesitated.

Then lowered her voice.

"When I lost control…" she said slowly, "I could feel it coming back."

Adam's gaze sharpened slightly.

"The hunger?"

She nodded.

"Yes."

A pause.

Her fingers tightened slightly on his arm.

"And you were the only thing that stopped it."

That truth landed between them.

Heavy.

Undeniable.

Neither of them moved.

Neither of them spoke.

The room felt smaller.

Not because of walls—

But because of distance that no longer felt safe.

Lia's hand was still on him.

She didn't remove it.

Adam didn't pull away.

"…you should rest," she finally said.

But she didn't stand up.

Not yet.

Not fully.

A sound broke the silence.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Controlled.

Deliberate.

Both of them froze instantly.

Lia stood up immediately, instincts returning in a flash. Protective. Alert.

Adam tried to rise, but pain forced him back down.

Lia stopped him with a firm hand.

"Not yet."

Above them—

The footsteps stopped.

A voice followed.

Calm.

Unshaken.

"You're still alive… good."

Adam's eyes narrowed instantly.

Lia went pale.

Because she recognized it immediately.

So did he.

The same presence.

The same man.

The one who ended the fight without effort.

He was here.

Above them… silence returned.

But it was not empty.

It was waiting.
