The neon lights flickered overhead, reflecting off puddles on the street. Adam's eyes darted between the vampire stranger and the wolves, calculating every angle, every possible move. The air smelled of wet asphalt, blood, and danger. Every muscle in his body was tense.
The lead wolf stepped forward, growling low. "Adam… you shouldn't have come here."
"I don't run," Adam replied. His voice was steady, though his heart raced. "I survive."
The stranger's eyes glimmered in the shadows. "Bold words… but will they last?"
Before Adam could react, the wolf pack moved in, surrounding him in a perfect semicircle. Their movements were coordinated, like hunters with a single mind. Adam's instincts screamed that this was a test — and possibly a trap.
He crouched slightly, ready to spring. The young vampire from earlier, now on its feet, hissed and circled from the other side. Adam realized that the stranger had set this encounter deliberately, a trial to see how he would react under pressure.
First Clash
A blur of motion — a wolf lunged. Adam sidestepped, using his superhuman reflexes to trip it, sending it crashing into the wet pavement. Another wolf attacked from behind, jaws snapping. Adam twisted, catching the wolf mid-air, and slammed it into the brick wall.
The vampire leapt toward him, claws extended. Adam caught the attack on his forearm, the force burning his skin. He pushed back, forcing the creature to retreat. The stranger watched silently, his smirk never fading.
"You're stronger than I expected," the stranger said. "But strength alone won't keep you alive here."
Adam's mind raced. He had to decide quickly: fight them all, attempt negotiation, or use the streets themselves as his weapon. Every second wasted could mean death.
Unexpected Ally
A sudden howl echoed above the chaos. From the fog, a figure emerged on four legs, larger and more formidable than the rest of the pack. Marcus's ally — the one who had spared him once in New Orleans — stepped forward.
"Adam," the wolf said, his voice deep and commanding, "I will help you… but you must prove yourself."
Adam nodded slightly, his strategy forming. He couldn't afford enemies on all sides. He needed allies, even temporary ones.
The battle escalated. Wolves and vampires circled, testing Adam's endurance, his patience, his instincts. He moved with precision, striking when necessary, dodging when required. Each movement was survival, each decision a gamble.
Cliffhanger – The Streets Decide
The rain began again, soft at first, then heavier. The neon lights shimmered off the wet pavement, casting eerie reflections. Adam paused, sensing a presence even darker than the stranger or the wolves.
From the alley behind him, a shadow detached itself from the walls, moving closer with silent intent. Adam's breath caught. He realized he was not just in a test — he was in a city that had already decided his fate.
To be continued…
