08 - Meeting at the hallway [1]
Cecilia's eyes narrowed even further, this time into slits, making sure that she was seeing properly.
"Are those really tears in your eyes?"
She had known Eris for a long time and she knew very well that she was not one who was overly in touch with her feelings.
If anything, it pissed her off more than anything when people show too much emotion.
"That's a first…" Cecilia said, pointing a finger to the side of her head. "That boy must have really gotten you messed up in the head."
Realizing herself, Eris got up, regained her composure and turned around, making her way straight to the door.
"Hey, Eris! Chill out!"
Cecilia reflexively extended her hand as if it could reach her.
"We are not done. You still haven't told me everything. Eris! Wait!"
Eris neither answered to anything Cecilia was saying at this point nor did she stop.
She continued until she reached the door and walked out of the room.
"Ahh!"
Cecilia facepalmed and sat back on her comfy chair.
She briefly regretted what had happened but then again, it wasn't her fault.
All she did was point out an observation.
"This is unlike you, Eris. To be flustered by this boy…"
Cecilia got up and walked around the chair to look at the window, staring at the world outside as she played with the loose, short red tie around her neck.
She observed the world and her reflection, though faint, stared right back at her.
Her hair was curly, full and messy, having a soft brown colour to it.
It was messy in a way that framed her face nicely, and also made her look like trouble at first glance—the kind of trouble that one wouldn't mind getting into if it was with her.
Caramel skin, and freckles over her face that did so well in increasing her attractiveness.
Cecilia was a typical goth-aligned girl with her lips that were soft and glossed even to catch the eyes.
She wondered what sort of boy this Link was.
Surely, she knew the person. Of course, she would.
She was the President of the Student Council after all—Cecilia Allison.
However, she had never imagined him as one who would be in the spotlight until today.
"Link… Remington."
****
With her mind lingering on Link for a while now, Eris was forced to remember things she had buried internally.
His image invoked thoughts that she didn't want, even one of self-doubt.
She was not angry at Cecilia Allison.
How could she be?
Cecilia was one of less than a handful of people that she had a good relationship with.
There was no way Eris was burning bridges with her over such a trivial matter.
Still, she needed to understand how Link was able to wield such an amount of ice power and also managed to keep it secret all this time.
Eris shook her head.
'If he was hiding his ability, then why put himself for some low class assassins,' she wondered. 'That would be foolish.'
As she walked through the hallway, her boots clanking against the floor, Eris came to one conclusion.
She was going to ask Link herself.
She needed answers and only Link could give her one that would satisfy her.
'I will ask him after field lessons.'
Just as she was about to make a sharp turn in the direction that led to the field, someone else made an appearance in the hallway.
This person stopped on seeing Eris.
Eris also stopped walking after meeting this person's gaze.
"Eris…!"
Eris frowned, her demeanour returning to her usual moody self.
"Wendy," she responded calmly.
Wendy clenched her fists by her side and stomped a foot on the floor.
"It's Miss Arclight to you, Eris."
Wendy wasted no time or opportunity to try putting Eris in her place, passing a message that they were not friends or acquaintances.
Eris blinked sharply, confused.
Just then Wendy had also addressed by her name without any sense of formality, to which she returned the favour.
"Whatever, Arclight."
Eris was done and turned to leave.
"Is it true?"
Eris stopped again.
This time, she turned only her head to look at Wendy.
"Answer me!" Wendy yelled at her.
Eris was still confused as to what she was on about.
"What is it?" Eris finally spoke.
"Don't pretend like you don't know," Wendy said. "Tell me the truth, Eris. Is it true?"
"What are you talking—"
"Did you kiss Link!"
Wendy cut her off abruptly.
Silence descended in the hallway like thunder and a cold breeze blew past, leaving the hair of both ladies dancing in its wake.
Wendy was frustrated and angry, her hands tightened into fists and her teeth gnashing against each other with her eyes almost tearing up.
Meanwhile, Eris stood in front of her, confused as to what had led Wendy to reach such a ridiculous conclusion. So much to even confront her about it.
"I don't have the time for silly jokes, Arclight. As you already know, field lessons will be starting very soon."
Eris took a step forward before suddenly stopping herself from completing it.
Something passed in front of her in the twinkle of an eye, missing her but striking the wall and leaving a crack that emitted smoke.
'This crazy bitch.'
Furious, Eris marked Wendy, seeing her as nothing but prey to devour at this instant.
Wendy had made the first move but missed, all thanks to Eris' quick reflexes. Otherwise, she might have incurred some injuries from that attack.
"What's the meaning of this, Arclight?"
"You did kiss him, didn't you? How dare you take advantage of Link when he was out!"
Eris placed her hand on the handle of her sword, ready to fight Wendy.
It was clear that nothing she will say or do will change the druid's mind.
There was no need trying to do so.
Eris held her weapon to stand erect in front of her.
"Let it be known that this was your doing, Arclight."
Eris then moved.
Wendy took three steps back and conjured a magic circle that appeared between her palms as her hands moved apart from each other.
