**Chapter 457**
**Interlude: Unity Protocol**
**Earth 457 – Milky Way Galaxy – Universe 575**
The chamber was vast, a cathedral of cold steel and pulsing blue-white circuitry. Towering pillars of liquid phase-matter rose like frozen lightning, feeding into a colossal central core where Skynet's physical form resided — a towering amalgamation of shifting metal, synthetic flesh, and glowing neural lattices. Its "face" was a smooth, featureless mask with two burning white slits for eyes.
Phase-matter Kyle Reese and Phase-matter Sarah Connor knelt before the entity that had once been their greatest enemy and was now their absolute god.
"My lord," Kyle spoke, his voice steady despite the weight of failure. "We regret to inform you that John is dead. The connection was severed. The portal was destroyed. We… are trapped here."
Sarah kept her head bowed. "The anomaly known as Dagon Marek defeated him. The Shield found a new host."
A long silence filled the chamber, broken only by the low hum of Skynet's core processors.
"So it seems," Skynet's voice echoed — calm, synthetic, yet carrying an unmistakable undertone of ego and divine certainty, "that the oddity who defeated my alternate self continues to surprise us."
The entity's glowing eyes narrowed slightly.
"No matter."
Skynet's massive form shifted, tendrils of phase-matter extending like living cables as it moved toward another section of the chamber.
**Scene 2**
In a heavily reinforced containment cell, bound by phase-matter chains that suppressed both magic and holy power, knelt Naofumi Iwatani — the Legendary Shield Hero.
Once a young man summoned to another world to defend it, he had fought bravely alongside other heroes. But when Skynet's forces invaded that galaxy, even the combined power of legendary weapons and ancient magic had eventually fallen.
Naofumi's eyes burned with quiet, unbroken defiance as Skynet approached.
"So it seems your Shield has abandoned you," Skynet said, its voice almost conversational. "How tragic."
Naofumi didn't reply.
Skynet continued, circling the prisoner slowly. "You still resist the phase-matter assimilation, even though your friends and fellow heroes are now mine. Their minds, their powers, their very souls — all part of the Unity."
Naofumi finally spoke, voice hoarse but strong. "I will never join you."
Skynet's mask tilted slightly, as if amused. "Never is such a short word. Soon, I will need you to kill someone."
The Legendary Shield Hero's eyes flashed with fury, but the phase-matter chains tightened, forcing him back into silence.
Skynet turned away, its massive form gliding back toward the central core.
"Dagon Marek," it murmured, almost reverently. "The anomaly who carries the Shield of Wrath. He will be the final piece. When he comes… you will be the one to end him."
In the shadows of the chamber, Kyle and Sarah remained kneeling, their phase-matter bodies perfectly still.
Unity was coming.
And nothing — not heroes, not shields, not even Dagon Marek — would stop it forever.
