Chapter 452 - Chapter 443 Despair and a Handful of hope part 3

**Chapter 443**

**Despair and a Handful of Hope – Part 3**

**Scene 1**

**Nox POV**

Pain.

That was the first thing Nox felt as consciousness returned — a deep, throbbing ache that radiated through every joint and muscle. He tried to move, but his body refused to obey. Thick, living moss-like tendrils wrapped around his wrists, ankles, and torso, holding him suspended upside down in a grotesque organic cradle.

*Oww… I can't move.*

His vision swam. The air was humid, thick with the scent of alien vegetation and something metallic — blood.

A shadowy figure stepped into view, elegant and avian, with feathers that shimmered in faint bioluminescent light.

"I wouldn't struggle if I were you," the figure said softly. "The Embrace of Pain is not yet activated. It is still too early."

Nox's eyes widened as recognition hit him. He had read the files Dagon left behind.

*Vergere.*

The Fosh tilted her head, studying him with clinical interest. "The Embrace of Pain is an organic rack used to torture prisoners. A victim is held upside down in restraint bands while the creature reads their nerve impulses and brain chemistry. It adjusts the pain in real time — keeping it at the perfect, constant level. Stretching ligaments, acid drips, electric shocks, needles, thorns, biotoxins… even pulling out every hair on the body if the mood strikes. When the victim is near death, it heals them just enough to continue. The Yuuzhan Vong do not call it torture. Some use it as meditation."

Vergere smiled, a small, serene expression that made Nox's skin crawl.

**Scene 2**

Nox forced his head to turn. Horror clawed up his throat.

Suspended in identical Embrace devices around the chamber were the girls.

Ahsoka hung limply, lekku bruised, eyes closed.

Zule beside her, breathing shallow.

Flare's elegant features twisted in unconscious pain.

Visenya, Stella, Kayla — all of them trapped, bodies marked with fresh injuries but still alive.

Ashara — *his* Ashara — hung closest, her dark hair matted with blood, face pale.

Even Zule's sisters, Ashla and Cera, were present, unconscious and bound.

"You…" Nox snarled, voice raw. "You have no idea what you've done. The man who loves these girls will rip your people apart."

Vergere stepped closer, almost gently. "Oh, I am counting on it. Our main invasion force is taking far too long to reach this galaxy. But with *him* — Dagon Marek — we will have the power to accelerate everything. He will come for you. And when he does, we will break him."

"He will never agree to help you," Nox spat.

Vergere's feathers ruffled in amusement. "Oh, but he will. Pain is a wonderful teacher. And we have the perfect students right here."

Nox reached for the Force, desperate to break free or call for help.

Nothing.

A strange, squirming creature attached to the base of his skull pulsed, suppressing his connection. The Yuuzhan Vong biotech blocked him completely.

**Scene 3**

Vergere noticed his attempt and smiled again.

"The Shaper caste created that little inhibitor," she explained. "They are the bioengineers and scientists of the Yuuzhan Vong. Everything in our society — from the greatest warships to the simplest tools — is grown, shaped, and perfected by them. They follow strict protocols passed down through eight cortexes of knowledge. Deviance means death."

She gestured around the chamber. The walls themselves seemed alive, pulsing with organic veins and bioluminescent patterns.

"They worship Yun-Ne'Shel, the Modeler. They reshape their own bodies with purpose rather than excess scarring. When they become Adepts, they sacrifice a hand to be replaced with a Shaper's hand. They implant a Vaa-tumor to reshape their brains. It is… painful. But necessary for enlightenment."

Vergere's voice took on an almost reverent tone.

"The True Gods decree that life *is* suffering. Some, like Domain Shai, embrace pain as meditation. They use the Embrace of Pain the way you might use a refresher. They hoped it would avert divine punishment." She chuckled softly. "They were… disappointed."

Nox glared at her. "The one Dagon killed on Tatooine… that was one of your best commanders, wasn't it?"

Vergere's expression darkened. "Yes. A Vanguard warrior of Domain Shai. One of our finest. His death demands vengeance. And you, along with these young women, are the perfect bait."

Nox looked again at the unconscious faces of the girls he had sworn to protect — at Ashara, the woman he loved more than life itself.

A cold, terrible resolve settled in his chest.

*Dagon… if you're coming, be careful.*

But deep down, Nox knew the truth.

Dagon *would* come.

And when he did, the galaxy itself might tremble.
