Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Which Is More Delicious, Breakfast or Spirits?

Rem set down the fresh milk jug in her hand and walked toward the trio.

Subaru Natsuki's face paled with shock. He slumped to the ground in terror, scooting backward repeatedly.

"What are you doing? Don't come any closer! Green-kun, quick... save me!"

Green was about to react when he saw Ram shake her head at him, signaling him not to move for the time being.

Rem didn't get completely close to Subaru Natsuki either; she stopped when there were still two or three meters between them.

She pressed her hands against her skirt and bowed to Subaru Natsuki.

"I'm sorry, Subaru. Rem should not have been so impulsive."

Ram had explained it to her yesterday: Roswaal's orders were to observe in secret and not act rashly, as the possibility of Subaru Natsuki being a Witch Cultist was very small.

Even if she didn't listen to that Clown's orders, she still had to listen to her sister's words.

Seeing that Rem wasn't there to kill him, Subaru Natsuki finally let his heart return to his chest.

From his perspective, being inexplicably suspected and hunted down was truly hard to accept.

Subaru Natsuki looked at Rem dejectedly and said:

"Rem, I've been so confused all last night. Why did you come to kill me? And what is this Witch Cult you guys mention? What is Miasma? Am I really not trustworthy at all?"

Hearing the term 'Witch Cult,' even though Rem had already prepared herself mentally, she still couldn't help but feel a surge of anger.

Seeing Rem's emotions fluctuate, Green quickly walked over to Ram's side and casually grabbed a bowl to scoop a few spoonfuls of porridge.

"Geez, why are you talking so much, you guy? Here, here, take this and go eat outside."

After saying that, Green shoved the bowl of porridge to Subaru Natsuki and quickly sent him away.

Having sent away the fuse, Green turned back, got a bowl for himself, and started eating on the spot while blowing on it to cool it down.

Ram watched Green's unsightly eating manner with some speechlessness.

"Shameless fellow. You bullied my sister yesterday, yet today you actually dare to swagger around in front of her sister. I really don't know what to say to you."

Green felt very comfortable sipping the porridge along the edge; his cold stomach finally began to warm up.

He scratched his head and said somewhat awkwardly, "I didn't mean to hurt Rem, I just wanted her to calm down."

After thinking about it, Green prepared to apologize to Rem.

"I'm sorry, Rem. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? I have some research in pharmacology; feel free to tell me anything."

"It's alright, Green-kun, please don't mind it. Rem is the one who should apologize to you; I caused you trouble last night."

The blue-haired maid gave Green a soft bow as well, then returned to her busy work.

Green felt quite uneasy watching her.

Rem, with a knot in her heart, looked truly lonely.

He had to find an opportunity to help her.

Ram gave Green a disdainful side-eye:

"Rem is still too gentle. If it were Ram being treated like that, I would definitely give you a hard punch, and then step on your face after you fall to the ground."

Green's eyes lit up, and he shamelessly leaned toward Ram.

"Too kind, Ram. Now that you've finished describing the reward, what's the punishment?"

As soon as these words came out, the entire scene fell into an eerie silence.

Beatrice's brows furrowed tightly as she slowly backed out the door: "The Mansion is no longer clean. Betty is going back to the Forbidden Library."

Ram choked for a long while before speaking: "Your level of shamelessness has once again set a new record with Ram. Rem, make sure to throw away the bowl he used."

Rem nodded: "Sister, Rem thinks it would be better to burn it to ashes."

Seeing that everyone had returned to their usual moods, Green finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Haha, as expected, Ram and Rem are cuter like this."

Ram, having understood Green's purpose, allowed a rare smile to surface:

"Stop being glib, Green. The Mansion's ingredients are almost gone. Once Rem is finished, she'll need you to accompany her to the nearby village to purchase some."

Subaru Natsuki probably wouldn't be able to go in his current state.

As long as Rem appeared in his line of sight, his legs would go weak. It was better to leave him in the Mansion to recuperate.

"No problem, just call me when it's time."

Green nodded and finished all the oatmeal porridge in his bowl.

After stretching, he continued, "Why do I feel a bit sleepy again?"

Sleeping on the floor yesterday was indeed uncomfortable, and being troubled by the magic mirror in the middle of the night meant he hadn't slept well at all.

"Ram is almost at a loss for words regarding a creature like Green who wants to sleep right after eating."

"Although I don't want to question Lord Roswaal's decision, Ram still feels that after hiring you as a guard, the Mansion's defense system is effectively paralyzed."

Ram took the empty bowl from Green's hand. She didn't actually throw it away, but placed it in the basket for dirty dishes to be washed.

"Ram, be careful or you won't be able to get married if you're so sharp-tongued."

Green was starting to become immune to Ram's venomous tongue. He yawned as he walked out of the kitchen, looking for Subaru Natsuki.

He had to give this guy a pep talk; otherwise, Subaru Natsuki might live in fear forever.

Sigh, I'm just too kind-hearted; I can't stand to see a fellow countryman suffer.

Eventually, Green found Subaru Natsuki in the hallway.

The guy was leaning against the windowsill, eating while wearing a perverted smile.

Before even getting close, Green heard Subaru Natsuki's outrageous remarks.

"Ha! As expected, Emilia-tan's smile is the best. Haha, it's truly delicious..."

After saying that, Subaru Natsuki raised his bowl and took a big gulp.

"Are you freaking... peeping?"

With a shocked expression, Green slowly moved next to Subaru Natsuki and followed his gaze downward.

At a time when the early morning mist had not yet faded, Emilia stepped on tiptoe across the dew-covered grass carpet.

Her silver hair was like remnant snow forgotten by the moonlight, cascading down as she crouched.

Points of light, even fainter than fireflies, rose from the crevices of the moss; they were all Lesser Spirits that had just awakened.

They pursued Emilia's scent, dancing around the young girl.

"Ha... Lia, good morning."

When Puck emerged from between Emilia's hair with a yawn, the Lesser Spirits scattered like a startled cluster of stars.

The glow carried by the little ones trailed long comet tails across the surface of Emilia's silver hair.

It made her entire silhouette in the mist take on a texture like dissolving nebulae.

"So beautiful. Looking at Emilia-tan's beauty, I feel like I could eat another hundred bowls of oatmeal porridge!"

Subaru Natsuki's eyes were fixed. Drool dripped from the corner of his mouth. Looking at his bowl, there wasn't a single oat left; it was so clean it could reflect light, yet he was still licking it.

Green's fist clenched; his fist was hard. He shouldn't have worried about this pervert at all.

"You freaking... doing this, huh? Just a moment ago in the kitchen you looked like life wasn't worth living and you were in agony, then you turn around and run here to look at girls."

"Shh! Green, whatever you do, don't disturb Emilia-tan's morning practice. Although I don't want to share this charming scenery with you, please keep your voice down! Oh, right, Green-kun, why don't you go get me another serving of oatmeal porridge?"

After saying that, Subaru Natsuki handed the bowl to Green without even turning his head, his eyes glued to Emilia.

Green slowly looked up, revealing an expression as if he wanted to eat someone, and bared his teeth: "You really are a veteran eater, aren't you!"

Then, the veins in his arm bulged, and his five fingers tightened inward with all his strength. With a 'crack,' the porcelain bowl in his hand was crushed into fragments.
