Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Dream and Reality

The magic mirror picked up the pen again and drew several lines over the existing handwriting.

Looking at the smudged page, he felt something was off.

After thinking carefully for a moment, he raised his hand and added a few more words.

"The mediocre Diviner Green Andersen was here. Haha, now it's fine. When the Super Male Master battles the Evil Loli, the Great Soul-Devouring Nightmare wolgaroth will watch the fire from the other side! Hee hee hee..."

"What are you doing?"

A tired, questioning voice came from the darkness.

The magic mirror increased its brightness, reflecting Grin's face, which still showed traces of sleepiness.

"N-nothing at all? Master... how did you manage to break free from your sweet dream?"

"How do you know it was a sweet dream?"

Grin immediately became alert. Just now, he had dreamed that a Jade Seal descended from the heavens, inscribed with: "Mandated by Heaven, May Your Life Be Long and Prosperous."

Just as he was about to ascend the throne, he suddenly heard someone call him mediocre.

Grin was furious and swore to Heaven that he would exterminate their nine generations, which caused him to wake up.

"What are you hiding behind your back? Hand it over to your Emperor!"

"N-no... I really don't have anything!"

"Give it here! What could your small body possibly hide?"

Grin snatched the item the magic mirror was hiding behind its back. He didn't know until he looked, and when he did, he was shocked.

"What the actual f*ck! How dare you scribble all over Betty's book of wisdom? Holy sh*t, you even wrote my name!"

"Master... I... I can explain..."

"I must have the worst luck ever! Aren't you trying to get me killed?"

Grin's face turned green. If Betty saw this, she would slaughter him.

Thinking this, he glanced toward the bed.

The girl's delicate sleeping face displayed a peaceful and sweet smile, as if she were dreaming of the most wonderful thing in the world.

"Thank goodness Betty didn't wake up! Hurry up and figure out a solution for me!"

"A solution, a solution, a solution... I got it! Master, we can kill the witness!"

The magic mirror looked up and saw Grin's face was nearly spitting fire, so it immediately corrected itself:

"I mean, killing the witness is definitely out of the question. How about we tear off this page? The pages of this book aren't connected very firmly to the cover; they're practically falling apart."

The magic mirror extended its translucent arm, grabbed the corner of the page, and carefully pulled it off.

"Master, look, we just need to use a little force..."

The page dropped, revealing the content of the next page.

The sentence written by the magic mirror was still stubbornly stuck to the paper, though the marks had faded significantly.

Grin was so angry that smoke seemed to pour from his orifices, and his Fingers cracked audibly.

"Now you know to use a little force? Why didn't you hold back when you were writing! It's seeped into the second page! Hurry up, tear it off again!"

*Tear, tear.*

After tearing off four or five pages, there were finally no more words.

However, some indentations still remained, but the room was too dim for the two of them to notice.

Grin held the book of wisdom and tried flipping through it, feeling uneasy.

"Tell me, hasn't this book gotten a bit thinner?"

"An illusion, Master, it must be an illusion!"

"This is all your fault! Damn it, eat these extra pages!"

Grin bared his teeth, crumpled the torn pages into a ball, and stuffed them into the mouth the magic mirror had manifested.

"Master... no... I really can't eat anymore... *Gag*..."

After dealing with the magic mirror, Grin tiptoed to Betty's bedside and gently tucked the book back under Betty's pillow.

Just as he was about to pull his hand back, Betty rolled over and pinned it down.

Her two restless little paws firmly gripped Grin's arm, and she mumbled in her sleep.

"Mother... please... tell Betty... who That Person really is..."

Feeling the soft sensation transmitted through his fingertips, Grin's movements instantly froze, and he mechanically turned his head like a wooden puppet.

"You damned mirror freak, do something quick!"

The magic mirror quickly flew over, hovered above Betty, and began casting a Hypnosis Spell.

"Sleep, my illiterate daughter..."

"What are you rambling about?"

"Master, this spell of mine requires saying something as a vessel for the Word Soul."

This time, the magic mirror increased the dosage of the Sweet Dream Factor.

Betty could no longer exert any strength and stretched out like a doll.

"Finally finished..."

Grin collapsed onto the floor, panting heavily, feeling the relief of finishing homework on the last day of vacation.

"Wo-l-ga-roth!"

"M-master, just call me magic mirror."

The magic mirror, called by its full name, shuddered all over, feeling like it might be forced into exile.

"You better not come out recently!"

Grin grabbed the body of the magic mirror and plucked it from the air.

Then, with a thought, he recalled the magic mirror into his body and revoked its permission to manifest independently.

Having finished all this, Grin slowly crawled back to his original spot, closed his eyes with an exhausted expression, and rested... Time flowed silently, and the sky gradually brightened.

Yesterday was barely a Peaceful Night; at least no one died in the darkness.

As soon as the sun peeked out, the maids in the Mansion were already busy.

Clattering sounds echoed in the kitchen, and the aroma of milk and oatmeal slowly drifted out.

"Rem, stir a little faster, or there will be lumps, and the texture will drop significantly."

"Sorry, Sister, Rem's wrist feels a bit sore and weak."

The blue-haired maid seriously stirred the oatmeal.

She had been tied up for quite a while yesterday, causing her wrist to still be somewhat stiff.

"Let me take over. You stand by and add the milk."

Ram looked at her Sister worriedly, took the ladle, and replaced Rem in the task.

*Da-da, da-da.*

Just then, a flurry of footsteps came from outside the kitchen door.

"Why does Betty have to do something like this, Ashira? Stop pushing, you two idiots!"

A furious Beatrice appeared at the doorway, followed by a half-crouching Grin, who was followed by a half-crouching Subaru Natsuki.

The latter two were tightly gripping the former's hem, hiding desperately behind her like in a game of 'Eagle Catching Chicks'.

"You promised nicely just now! You must successfully lead us to get breakfast!"

Grin poked his head out from behind Betty, wanting to see if the situation was dangerous.

He gripped Betty's skirt hem with both hands, using her as a human shield.

This was an act of desperation; he had stayed up all night, and Subaru Natsuki was still recovering, and now they were starving.

Even the extremely thick-skinned Subaru Natsuki felt a little ashamed right now: "Green-kun, are we really going to be okay doing this?"

He raised his head and cautiously glanced at Rem, and his face involuntarily began to phantom pain, as if the bone-deep wound from yesterday had reappeared.

Betty reached her limit. Since Grin was half-crouching, his head was perfectly within Betty's striking range.

*Bang!*

Betty raised her hand and knocked him with a punch. Judging by the sound, it must have been a solid hit.

"Ouch!"

Grin rolled to the side and frantically rubbed the spot where he was hit, trying to alleviate some of the pain.

"Hiss... What the heck are you doing, Betty? Can't you tell friend from foe?"

Betty glanced at Ram and Rem, not sensing any killing intent whatsoever.

"Betty doesn't believe there are any enemies here. It's likely just Idiot Grin's imagination."
