Chapter 9 - The Final Acts of a Corrupt Sheriff.

The deck of the ship was transformed into a haunting stage, where the moonlight mingled with the flickering lanterns, casting elongated shadows that danced ominously across the surface. The players stood poised, each representing a force that could not be more different, their hearts racing in anticipation of the impending clash. The night air crackled with an electrifying tension thick enough to feel as if the world itself were holding its breath, waiting for the storm to break. Gabriel's nostrils flared as he shot an incendiary glare at the succubus, his eyes ablaze with a fury that threatened to ignite the very atmosphere around them.

"Nice moves, Demon Lord... Or should I call you Laila? The third child of the Vellano Family... I should have known that a self-righteous brat like you would never just die quietly," the Sheriff said as he prepared to fight the former knight.

"Don't mock me, Gabriel. If there's anyone who should feel betrayed, it's me and the village of Ars," Laila shouted as she slowly moved in towards the Sheriff.

"It's funny... I wouldn't have known it was you until you kept spewing out all your virtuous bullshit... I should have known of all the people on this planet. You would be too stubborn to lose your morals. Even after getting turned into a Demon... You still think you're a hero that can save everyone? Pfft! It's laughable." Gabriel said as he glared at the red-haired succubus.

"I know who I am and what I stand for. I will always protect the innocent. You can't change that. I am the one who will bring justice and the light back to this world," Laila said with determination.

"HAHAHA! Justice? Light? Don't make me laugh. You're a damn demon, and you're talking about bringing light and justice to the world. If that's not laughable, I don't know what is." Gabriel said as his smile vanished and was replaced by a serious expression. "Laila, you're too stupid to realize that you are evil now. And it is I who has to defeat you... It's too bad I never got the chance to fuck you before you turned into a monster," Gabriel said as he raised his blade and pointed it at her.

"You are the evil ones here, Gabriel! It is not I who is the monster! You are a coward, hiding behind the Mayor's power!" Laila shouted.

"Shut up! I am a loyal servant of the Mayor. He has the right to rule this town and will make Delinora the greatest kingdom in the world!" Gabriel said as he ran toward Laila and swung his blade.

*Clang!*

Laila deftly raised her sword to intercept his strike, their blades meeting with a sharp clang that echoed through the air. The force of the collision sent vibrations up her arms, and she could feel the intensity of his aggression behind the blow as they momentarily locked in a fierce struggle.

"You're nothing but a puppet! The mayor doesn't care about you or the people. You're just another pawn in his quest for power," Laila retorted as she pushed him back.

"That rich coming from a corrupted human that is now a puppet of the Demon Lord... Speaking of which, where is the real Demon Lord? I bet you ran away from him with your tail between your legs after you found out what you are now," Gabriel said as he slashed at her again. "He was most likely disappointed in the low-class succubus he turned you into. No doubt you are a weakling compared to the Demon Lord's other concubines. Or is he a weakling since he couldn't convert the self-righteous Laila into a lustful whore?" Gabriel added.

Laila deftly parried Gabriel's strikes, her determination lending fierce power to her every move. Insults had never affected her—she brushed them off like raindrops. But when Gabriel dared to mock Chase, a surge of rage ignited within her. With gritted teeth, she thrust her sword forward, each ounce of her fury channeling into the fight, ready to defend what mattered most.

"Don't you dare speak ill of Chase!" Laila roared as her blade collided with Gabriel's. The sound reverberated through the night's chilly air, the impact of their strike sending a shockwave through the atmosphere. "He's more human than you'll ever be! You're the weak one here, Gabriel! You're just a puppet to the Mayor! A man who can't see that his greed and ambition have corrupted him beyond recognition," Laila spat, her voice laced with contempt as she stared daggers at the Sheriff.

In a surge of adrenaline, the redheaded succubus felt an unfamiliar warmth spreading through her grip—a subconscious surge of mana coursing into her sword. It sparked a powerful Mage Knight ability, unleashing the "Fire Blade" skill. Flames flickered along the edge of her weapon, casting an ethereal glow that illuminated the rage etched across her face.

*FWOOSH!*

A pillar of fire burst forth, engulfing Gabriel's sword and traveling along his body. The heat was intense, forcing him to leap backward, his clothes smoldering and his skin singed.

"GAH!? YOU LITTLE BITCH!... When did you learn magic?..." Gabriel grunted as he tried to extinguish his burning clothes.

Laila was shocked at how easy that spell came to her, especially since she had never been good at magic before. She took advantage of Gabriel's temporary distraction and leaped toward him, her blade burned with flame and determination.

'I am a Mage Knight! It's so easy! Hold on! I will end him!' she thought as she prepared to attack him.

"You think you can get away with insulting my Chase?" Laila shouted with fire in her eyes. In a swift, furious motion, she charged forward, her flaming blade cutting through the air as it aimed directly at the Sheriff.

Gabriel put out the flames just in time to block her incoming attack.

*CLANG!*

The sound of metal clashing rang throughout the deck, the sparks flying from their swords illuminating their faces in a bright flash. Their eyes locked, their bodies tense as they pushed against one another.

"You little cunt!" Yelled Gabriel as his sword was getting damaged by Laila's flaming blade.

"Are those your final words, you corrupt bastard?" Laila yelled out as she pressed her advantage, the heat from her sword singeing his face.

"Not by a long shot!" Gabriel said as he kicked Laila, forcing her back. Laila unleashed another "Fire Blade" at Gabriel, but he ducked under her attack and rushed her.

"Die!" he yelled as he slashed at her, trying to cut her in half.

"Hiyahhhh!" Laila yelled back as she moved faster than ever and blocked his attack. The stress from Laila's Fire Blade was taking its toll on both her and Gabriel's blades as they were normal swords, not magically enhanced to handle a Mage Knight's skills.

*CLANG!*

Laila managed to block his strike with her flaming blade, causing the two combatants to be locked in a fierce struggle, their strength equal as they pushed against one another, their eyes blazing with an unyielding ferocity. The pressure was intense, the tension thick enough to suffocate them. But the heat from Laila's blade was weakening Gabriel's, causing it to begin to melt.

'Damn! She's good! And strong!' Gabriel thought as he looked into Laila's eyes. They were filled with such a strong will and conviction, so much so that he could feel her determination through her gaze. 'No, not yet! I won't let her win!'

"You won't defeat me! Take THIS!... HIYAHHHHH!" Gabriel shouted as he summoned his mana to strengthen his muscles, making his attack even stronger.

*SHING!*

With a roar of desperation and anger, Gabriel swung his blade at Laila, aiming to break through her defenses. But his strike met an unexpected resistance, the sound of metal grinding against metal rising to a crescendo until—*CRACK!*—their swords collided with a jarring force. Time seemed to freeze for an instant as the shimmering steel shattered, sending fragments flying into the air, a chaotic testament to their fierce clash.

"Fuck!"Gabriel's heart raced as he shouted, retreating with every ounce of strength he had left. He could feel the weight of dread settle over him; he knew he couldn't survive another assault from the Demon Lord's relentless succubus. But Laila was in hot pursuit, her glowing green eyes piercing through the darkness, and she seemed to move with an impossibly quick grace. The air crackled with tension as he felt her presence closing in, determination driving him further into the shadows.

"G-Get away from me! Don't come any closer!" Gabriel yelled as his fear got the better of him.

Laila remained silent, her mind racing—there was nothing left to say. Gabriel's hands were stained with the blood of countless innocents, and justice demanded his reckoning. He had to pay for his crimes, and she would be the one to exact that punishment. With a fierce determination igniting her spirit, she leaped into the air, defying gravity as she executed a flawless flip. As her right leg descended with purpose, the air crackled with anticipation.

"Take this!"

*BAMM!!!*

Her kick landed squarely against his chest, the force sending him hurtling backward. His body collided against the wooden mast with a resounding thud, a grunt of pain escaping his lips as his breath was stolen from him. The impact shook the ship, rocking the vessel and causing the waves below to ripple. He crumpled to the floor, his eyes filled with shock and confusion.

'W-What? How is she so strong? I-I need to escape! I need to warn the Mayor! I have to survive! But... I-I can't feel my legs. Damn it, I'm paralyzed from the waist down!' Gabriel thought as he desperately struggled to move.

Laila slowly walked up to Gabriel and stopped in front of him, her emerald eyes boring into his, her gaze unwavering.

"Y-You... bitch... W-What do you want from me?" Gabriel asked as he glared at Laila, his voice dripping with venom.

Laila reached down, grabbed him by the neck, and lifted him in the air with ease. She never knew she was capable of doing something like this before. But now, she could easily hold the large man with one hand.

"I-Impossible! What are you?" Gabriel choked out as he struggled in her grasp.

"I am the defender of the innocent, Gabriel... I took an oath to protect those weaker than myself. And now, I will deliver the justice you deserve. You will die for your sins," Laila said calmly as she tightened her grip, the man's face turning purple.

"GAH!? B-BUT YOUR OATH IS TO HOLD THOSE WHO COMMIT CRIMES... GAH! TO A COURT OF JUSTICE AND MAKE THEM FACE THEIR SENTENCES..." Gabriel croaked out.

Laila grimaced as she remembered her oath. As a Knight, she was sworn to uphold the law and not execute her own judgments. But this man was a murderer and a traitor, and she couldn't let him live, but her conscience gnawed at her since he was disarmed and injured, unable to move.

'It would be wrong of me to execute him without a proper trial. He should face the judgment of the people,' Laila thought.

"That's true, Gabriel. But if you try anything... I will—Huh!?"

Laila felt danger coming from behind her, and out of instinct, she quickly spun around. She didn't know why, but she used Gabriel's body as a human shield.

*Zip! Zip! Zip!*

*Thud! Thud! THUD!*

"Gah!" Gabriel cried out as he had three crossbow bolts in his back.

'Broc! That backstabbing bastard thinks he can shoot me in the back a second time in one night?' Laila thought as she quickly looked at Gabriel and saw that he was dead. 'Well... Justice has been served for the innocent people he killed,' Laila thought as she hurled the lifeless body of the Sheriff over the railing. Time seemed to slow as he tumbled through the air, crashing into the dark water below with a resounding splash.
