Chapter 20 - **chapter twenty; maybe**

We all gathered and sat on the bench outside, and some people had to stand or sat on the floor if you're that type.

"Your hands are tools, and you will use them today and now," our teacher said, which I felt kinda weird. It sounds like a ritual pep talk, if there's such a thing.

They brought out a pot and pan to whichever you have use for, and we were once again divided to groups of six, and everyone has to participate. Since there were less than 13 people in each group, it was easy for everyone to.

When I walked to where my group was, my mood was lit — finally, I had the opportunity to see Luca, and not just that, he was on the same group as I. "Where have you been?" I whispered when I got close. Luca: "I'm sorry, I was also looking for you. It's almost like this place doesn't want us seeing each other. And also, I bumped into this scary woman and she has this big male voice." He tries to imitate her. I hit him on the arm, but not hard. "Stop it, it probably was Miss Theresa. She is quite strict about a lot of things, and she doesn't let any guy come over to the ladies' cabin." Luca: "Sick, really? It's not like we are going to do anything."

I looked at him. "Really? You're not going to do anything?" Luca: "Nope, I won't," he said, stressing each word. "Cool," I shrugged and stepped away a bit. Then I catch Emory — he was on our group.

"Okay! Everyone, this stuff ain't going to cook themselves. Let's get cooking!" And some of the girls actually thought this was a great speech. I just looked in disgust. "Hey Mel, could you slice the onions?" he said, handing it to me. I looked at the bowl containing the onions and looked at him. "No slicing board?" "No," he answered. "I think we are to do this locally, like back in the pioneer years." I raised an eyebrow. "And if we don't?" "We all fail," he answered. "Oh, I see. And who gave you the leader role? You're not in charge of the group — no one is." "Yeah," someone from the back agreed.

"You know what? I'll cut the onions." Luca took the bowl from Emory and started to slice.

We made the stew and pork and roasted potatoes. I didn't know how it was going to taste or what number in the ranking we would get, but the goal is not to win — at least not for me.

When we were done, each meal was collected and taken to the kitchen. The stew and other food that could be stored was refrigerated. Then we had roasted potatoes and chicken for dinner.

As we head to our cabin, I, Megan, and Luca — Megan was complaining about her fire burn and how they said it was pioneer time, yet still used a refrigerator to store the food we made instead of eating them. I think she was still hungry, but that wasn't a problem because I had a bag full of junk food.

It was unusually quiet tonight, and the moon was full. We sat on the wood stairs of our cabin. Megan went to bed, so it was just me and Luca. We didn't say anything at first. Sometimes he caught me staring at him, and sometimes I do. "This has been fun. I wish we could stay a bit longer," he finally spoke. "Mhh," I nodded. "Me too, but I also miss home, and I wish I was spending time with them since we are graduating soon and then college." Luca: "Oh, I thought you were going to college in Burberry. It's kinda stupid to think about it — I mean, you grew up here, it's good for a change." He was kinda sad. "Are you going to college here?" I asked. Luca: "I don't know really. I want to, or maybe at least not somewhere too far, but my parents want me to leave the country." I can see he was upset, but I was excited for him, even though I myself am going out of the country. "Wow, that's coool." Luca: "Maybe to you, but not me, really. I'll just go to bed early tonight." "It's just 7pm, can't you stay a little longer?" I asked. "Uhm, tomorrow is our last day, then we leave the day after. I wanna get up early."

It was obvious he was mad at me, but I didn't bother to talk anymore about it. "Okay, goodnight, Luca." "Goodnight, Mel."

I got on my bed thinking — if him being mad was a sign that he loves me? And why doesn't he want to let me know how he truly feels about me?
