I once read a novel where the guy betrayed the girl.
Just like Keifer betrayed me.
And I remember being so angry at the girl when she forgave him so easily. I couldn't understand her at all.
I remember thinking, How can she do that?
He literally broke her heart.
He betrayed her.
He destroyed her trust.
How could she just forgive him?
Back then...
I wasn't in love.
But today...
After days of Keifer's betrayal...
I finally understood something.
Love makes you do things you never thought you would.
When you're not in love, you think you know yourself.
"I'll never forgive someone who betrays me."
"I'll walk away."
"I'll never go back."
But real love...
Real love makes you do everything you once thought you never would.
It makes you forgive things you swore you'd never forgive.
It makes you stay when you promised yourself you'd leave.
It makes you choose someone else even when your own heart is breaking.
I'm not saying what Keifer did was right.
It wasn't.
And the way he apologized to me wasn't right either.
He humiliated me in front of everyone...
And apologized to me in private.
That wasn't fair.
But...
Was I still angry at him?
I don't think so.
Maybe somewhere between his betrayal and his tears...
My anger had disappeared.
But something else had replaced it.
Fear.
Victoria already knew my weakness.
She knew exactly how to hurt me.
After Mom and Dad...

He looked at me.
"Hmm?"
"Where is everyone going?"
He suddenly looked away.
"Nowhere."
I narrowed my eyes.
"Ci N."
"Jay..." Ci n said
"What is Keifer planning?" I asked
"Nothing." He replied too fastly
"You're lying." I said
He stayed quiet.
I stared at him.
"Ci N."
He sighed.
"Jay, it's nothing serious."
"Then tell me."
He hesitated.
I waited.
Finally...
He gave up.
"Keifer is planning to apologize to you."
My heart stopped.
"What?"
"He wants to apologize."
"To you."
"In front of the whole school."
For a moment...
I couldn't breathe.
"No."
I immediately stood up.
"I have to stop him."
I grabbed my bag and rushed outside.
But it was already too late.
Everyone was already gathering in the center of the campus.
Keifer was standing there.
And I knew...
There was no way I could stop him now.
I quickly took out my phone.
My fingers were shaking.
I called Aries.
He answered almost immediately.
"What happened?"
"Aries..."
My voice trembled.
"He's going to do it."
"Who's going to do what?"
"Keifer."
There was silence.
"He's going to apologize."
"In front of everyone."
"He's going to tell them everything."
Aries immediately understood.
"Jay..."
"I need you to do something."
"What?"
I looked toward Keifer.
He was standing in the middle of the campus.
Waiting.
Waiting for me.
"Do exactly what I tell you."
"Don't ask questions."
"Just trust me."
Aries went silent.
Then...
"Okay."
I ended the call.
My heart was beating violently.
I didn't want to do this.
But I had no choice.
I looked at Keifer.
I'm sorry.
I really am.
Then...
I walked toward him.
And everything happened.
Keifer apologized.
In front of everyone.
He admitted everything.
His voice broke.
His eyes filled with tears.
And then...
He fell to his knees.
The entire campus went silent.
Keifer Waston...
The boy who never bowed his head to anyone...
Was on his knees.
For me.
My heart shattered.
I wanted to run to him.
I wanted to hold him.
I wanted to tell him that I still loved him.
But I couldn't.
Not when a man's rifle was probably already aimed at him.
Not when Victoria was watching.
Not when the lives of everyone I loved were at risk.
So I stood there...
With a completely emotionless face.
While my heart was screaming.
When he finally said,
"I love you, Jay."
"I'll love you until scientists find the end of the universe."
I almost broke.
Almost.
But then...
I said the words I knew would destroy him.
"But I don't."
The moment I saw his face...
I knew.
I had killed something inside him.
And I hated myself for it.
But I couldn't stop.
I kept lying.
I kept pushing him away.
I watched the hope disappear from his eyes.
And then...
I walked away.
My steps were steady.
My face remained cold.
But inside...
I was falling apart.
I could barely breathe.
I reached the school gate.
And the moment I was out of everyone's sight...
My eyes filled with tears.
I quickly wiped them.
No.
Not now.
I heard footsteps behind me.
Fast.
Desperate.
I didn't need to turn around.
I knew exactly who it was.
Keifer.
He reached me and grabbed my hand.
He turned me around.
His eyes were filled with desperation.
"Jay..."
"Look, I know you're lying."
"I'm sorry."
"Whoever is forcing you to say all this..."
"Just tell me."
"I'll—"
I wanted to tell him.
God...
I wanted to tell him everything.
But then...
I saw something.
Behind him.
Farther away.
A tall building.
And on one of its upper floors...
A man was standing.
A gun in his hands.
Aiming directly at Keifer.
My blood ran cold.
Victoria.
She had already started.
She was going to use Keifer against me.
His brothers.
Section E.
Everyone I loved.
She was going to make me choose.
And I couldn't.
I couldn't risk losing them.
Not again.
Not after Mom and Dad.
Not Keifer.
I had to do something.
Something terrible.
Something I knew I would regret for the rest of my life.
I looked at Keifer.
My heart was screaming at me.
I'm sorry.
Then...
I pulled my hand away.
With all my strength.
He looked at me in confusion.
And before he could understand what I was doing...
I moved.
Fast as air.
Straight toward Jason.
I reached him.
And kissed him.
My thumb stayed between our lips.
It wasn't real.
It wasn't supposed to be.
But from where Keifer was standing...
He couldn't possibly know that.
All he could see...
Was me.
Kissing Jason.
My hands around his neck.
Jason's hands around my waist.
Students still recording everything from behind.
And Keifer...
Standing completely still.
I looked at him.
And my heart broke.
He looked like he had just lost his entire world.
And I felt disgusting.
Not because of Jason.
But because...
I had just destroyed the person I loved most.
I'm sorry, Keifer.
I had to do this.
Please hate me.
Please forget me.
Because if you don't...
Victoria will take you away from me.
And I don't think I could survive losing you too.
