Butterfree and Gastly were both moving at high speeds. They have exchanged many moves by now.
Seeing how Gastly is too fast, Butterfree uses Whirlwind, making it difficult for Gastly to move in the air. She then used confusion!
"Gastly, protect yourself with ghost type energy, then dive towards the ground and merge with the shadows"
Eric knew Gastly couldn't dodge, so he had him reduce the damage and then hide amidst the shadows.
"Phree"
Butterfree looked around confusedly, unsure of what to do. She was still a wild Pokemon after all.
Gastly took advantage of her confusion and charged up a powerful Ghost Ball while still in the shadows. He then came up behind her, catching her off guard.
Butterfree was hit and was sent flying.
"Don't let up Gastly! Now's your chance!"
As she was still falling back, Gastly used Clear smog to hit her again.
"Phreee!"
Knowing she couldn't dodge, Butterfree countered with confusion. Both Pokemon took the hit.
Butterfree passed out, but Gastly managed to hold on somehow, barely retaining consciousness.
Eric went up to him and used a full bottle of Potion on him. He then took out another bottle and gave it to Butterfree as well.
To Eric's delight, Gastly levelled up to lvl 12 after this fight.
After they were recovered, a Butterfree came up to him and declared him the winner.
"Phree!"
It called out, and after a moment, 3 more Butterfree showed up
Eric, who looked at the stats of these Butterfree, was truly shocked.
Two of them were above level 30 and had a light green potential. But it was the one in the middle that was the reason for his shock.
Pokemon: Butterfree
Gender: Female
Level: 48
Type: Bug/Flying
Ability: Compound eyes
Potential: Dark Green
Moves: string shot, Gust, harden, bug bite, confusion, Psywave, Psychic, poison powder, stun spore, sleep powder, whirlwind, Hurricane, air slash, Bug buzz, quiver dance, energy ball
This was a true monster!
This Butterfree had a few scars on her body, with one near the eye. But the energy she gave out still carried a lot of warmth and kindness.
"Phree"
She used her psychic energy to deliver a jar to Eric. That jar was filled with Pokemon Honey!
Pokemon Honey is a very sought after item. Its market price is 100 pokedollars per gram. This jar looked to be around half a kg.
So it's value was roughly 50,000 pokedollars!
'Why was she giving him this? A prize for winning the battles, perhaps? And where did she get this human made jar? Could it be...'
Eric used his theory crafting brain to come up with a story.
He theorised that this Butterfree used to have a trainer, and was released by them. She then set up a colony here and settled down. Given her move pool, it seemed very plausible. It would be difficult to learn moves like Hurricane on her own, which in the games could only be taught to a Butterfree by using a TM.
"Thanks, Butterfree"
Eric thanked Butterfree for the honey, convinced that he had arrived at the truth.
He also wondered if the Beedrill colony had a pokemon of this caliber. If they did, then he should thank the stars that he managed to escape. No wonder many new trainers die out there in the wilderness.
While he was correct about underestimating the Beedrill, it wasn't to this extent. This Butterfree, who was in the later stages of the Advanced level, could singlehandedly defeat the entire Beedrill colony if she wanted to.
She was strong enough to become a dominant force even in the center area of Redwood forest. She just chose not to, wanting to live a peaceful life.
"Can I come here again?" Eric asked the leader to which she nodded.
Eric then saw her put a lot of effort into trying something. He then heard a voice in his mind
"Y-you can come and spar...but you can collect a reward only once a week."
Eric was taken aback. Butterfree just used telepathy to talk to him.
"I didn't know you could use telepathy!"
"I-Its very difficult."
Butterfree answered. She then gave her goodbyes and went deeper into the colony.
This was an experience Eric wouldn't forget.
Eric had Gastly and Spearow spar with the Butterfree for a few more hours before deciding that it was time to head back. Gastly fought mostly those that were at lvl 20, and had a 60% win rate.
Thanks to all that Sparring, he levelled up again to lvl 13. His Ghost Ball also improved, making it much more usable.
Spearow on the other hand lost more than she won. She fought Butterfree around level 15, and despite her advantage as a flying type, she could win only 4 out of 10 times.
These Butterfree outclassed the Beedrill they fought even at the same level.
Spearow was very frustrated but she also improved a lot. She reached lvl 11 and her Aerial ace improved in mastery.
All in all, this was the most productive day for Eric since he got here. More than anything, he now had some money! After reaching Redwood, he immediately exchanged the honey for pokedollars and got 50,000P for it!
He now roughly had around 53000P.
And he can get a reward every week from the Butterfree, provided that he wins every time!
Eric didn't wait for a second as he headed directly to the Breeder's marketplace. He then looked up the prices for each category of Pokeblocks.
Basic Pokéblocks: 50P
Specific type Basic Pokeblocks: 100P
Specific type Intermediate Pokéblocks: 300P
Specific type advanced Pokeblocks: 1000P
(The price is for 1 block. Pokemon consume 100s per day depending on their diet)
There were many other types of Pokeblocks like speed blocks, strength blocks and so on. There were even stalls run by professional breeders who were offering to make custom Pokéblocks. Their prices depended on the type of customisation. Even intermediate blocks could go for 1000+ pokedollars per block!
Being a pokemon breeder was truly very rewarding.
Eric's excitement of earning 50,000P per week died down immediately. Looking at these prices, he was still too poor!
He wanted to buy intermediate Blocks, but he was too poor to sustain it.
He bought Ghost and Poison type Basic blocks for Gastly worth 30,000P
And for Spearow he bought 18,000P worth of basic blocks.
He was only left with 5000P after he was done.
Eric sighed. Looks like he needed to visit the Black Market as soon as possible.
