Chapter 7 - Beginner's Guide

"Hypnosis on the leader, then fly up to dodge the other 2 while preparing clear smog. Pay attention to their movements."

"Gas"

Gastly prepared hypnosis, but the leader Spearow didn't stay idle.

With a sharp cry, she lunged forward, beak glowing with flying type energy. She had used peck!

Unfortunately for her, Gastly was much faster. He dodged sideways and used Hypnosis on her. But the leader Spearow was clearly different from the rest. She managed to change directions easily even while using peck, dodging hypnosis completely.

The other 2 Spearow then moved to attack Gastly.

"Gastly, fly downwards to dodge them and hit them back with Clear smog!"

Although he didn't expect Spearow to dodge hypnosis from that position, he wasn't perturbed. He calmly directed Gastly, who used clear smog and hit one of the 2 directly, knocking it out.

"Now hide in the shadows and prepare clear smog from there."

Eric said, as he himself hid amongst the bushes. He didn't want the spearows to target him in confusion when Gastly disappears In the shadows.

The 2 remaining Spearow looked around in confusion. They didn't have to wait long as Gastly suddenly appeared behind the Spearow who wasn't the leader, and used Clear smog.

The Spearow couldn't withstand it and passed out, leaving just the Leader.

"It's a 1 on 1 now Gastly. Finish her off quickly."

Gastly prepares Clear smog while the leader furiously attacks with peck.

Gastly moves to the right to dodge the attack, but Spearow's flight path suddenly changed midway. The shift was so unnatural it took both Gastly and Eric aback. The flying type energy around Spearow changed into Dark type.

Feint attack!

Gastly couldn't dodge and was hit but he also managed to use Clear smog in time, catching Spearow with it.

"Gastly!" Eric hurried towards Gastly and fed him a few Oran berries. Gastly slowly recovered and laughs weakly, "keke"

Eric sighed in relief.

They were careless. He knew the Spearow knows feint attack, he should've done better in guiding Gastly.

Eric then looked at the Leader Spearow for a moment, contemplating. He then threw a Pokeball at her, catching her successfully.

After this fight, Gastly leveled up to lvl 9!

They've made huge progress today.

Eric then collects Oran berries from the tree.

"Gastly, store as many as you can in your shadow"

Gastly managed to store around 350 berries with him. Eric stored 50 more in his backpack, and a 100 more in 2 plastic bags he had brought for this.

In all, they had a little over 500 berries.

"Alright, we are done for the day. Gastly, since its getting dark, train by absorbing Ghost type energy as we walk back."

Gastly nodded and started training as they walked back.

---

After reaching the city, he immediately went to the berry shop and sold all 500 of his berries for 3000P.

He now has 3625P in total.

He then went to the bookstore and bought the beginner trainer guide for 2500 bucks. After dinner and paying for his room, he was left with about 795P.

Eric opened the Beginners guide as soon as he reached his room.

Most of it was quite basic. Type matchups, move categories and so on. Stuff he already knew from the games.

But there was a lot he didn't know as well.

Pokeballs, for example.

When a Pokemon is captured by a pokeball, an artificial connection is formed between it and the trainer. It makes it so that the Pokemon has a good initial impression of the trainer. Whether this connection becomes real or not is up to the trainer and Pokémon.

If the Pokéball breaks, this artificial connection is removed and the Pokemon is considered to be released.

If the Pokemon has formed a real connection, it would still be as friendly and consider you as its trainer. If not, then it'll likely be furious at you and attack you. Or it would just run away.

It is highly recommended to form a true connection with your Pokémon, as the artificial one has limits.

The next section of interest was about Pokéblocks.

Pokéblocks are specially designed foods prepared by Pokémon breeders that help in a Pokémon's growth.

There are a variety of Pokéblocks with various effects. If a trainer wants to maximize their Pokémon's potential, Pokéblocks are a necessity.

Pokeblocks are divided into 3 levels.

Basic, intermediate and advanced.

And even among them, there are levels based on the purity of a pokeblock and customisations. Skilled breeders make Pokéblocks of higher purity and quality, and they can also make custom Pokéblocks that are designed for one pokemon specifically.

In order to maximize a Pokémon's potential, Pokéblocks are necessary.

Finally, Eric came to the section about training Pokemon. While the information here was pretty basic, it was still useful to Eric. At the very least, it gave Eric some confidence about his training method.

There was no information about energy types and how to train them, interestingly. Perhaps this information was not open for the public, Eric thought.

There were many exercises in the guide that helped a Pokemon improve its movement and dodging skills. Eric found that quite helpful, even though it was pretty basic.

The 2500 pokedollars were well spent, he thought.

'Pokemon breeder huh' Eric thought as he was lying on his bed. He has an advantage in this profession. His system, which is able to tell him what any item is and what are its uses.

Speaking of which, his system's database updated slightly while reading the beginners guide. It was when he read the section about Pokemon ranks.

A Pokemon goes through a change every 10 levels it seems. This change is a lot more noticeable from level 30 onwards.

Pokemon in this world aren't categorised in levels but in tiers. The system seems to have taken that in and tells me what level means what tier.

Level 1-10 (no tier)

Level 10-29 (Beginner)

Level 30-39 (intermediate)

Level 40-49 (Advanced)

Level 50-59 (Pseudo King)

Level 60-69 (King)

Level 70-79 (Pseudo Champion)

Level 80-89 (Champion)

Level 90-99 (Master)

Level 100 (???)
