Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Uninvited Guest of Honor

The Oriental Hotel was a fortress of glass and gold, overlooking the dark expanse of the Lagos lagoon. Tonight, it played host to the "Lagos Emerging Titans Gala" an event where a single handshake could worth more than a decade of hard labor.

Tobi stepped out of his blacked-out SUV, feeling the weight of his custom-tailored charcoal suit. It wasn't just fabric; it was armor.

As he walked toward the entrance, the bouncers—men built like mountain ranges—didn't even ask for his invitation. They saw the watch. They saw the shoes. They saw the way he carried himself like he owned the foundation the hotel was built on. They simply stepped aside, bowing their heads in a silent salute to wealth.

Inside, the ballroom was a sea of shimmering gowns and sharp tuxedos. Waiters glided through the crowd with trays of crystal flutes filled with vintage champagne.

"Look at that," a voice hissed nearby. "Is that... the boy from the news? The one who bought the Cursed Mansion?"

Tobi ignored the whispers, his Contractor's Eye scanning the room. The world turned into a data stream. Names, bank balances, and hidden scandals hovered over heads like digital ghosts.

Then, he saw them.

In the center of the room, surrounded by a circle of laughing sycophants, was Mr. Okeke—Tobi's former boss. Next to him stood Segun, looking smug in a gold-threaded agbada that cost more than a small apartment in Surulere.

"And then I told the boy," Okeke was saying, his belly shaking with laughter, "I told him, 'Tobi, you'll be lucky if you're still breathing by Christmas.' And now I hear he's playing house in Banana Island! The madness of these mainland boys is truly—"

Okeke's voice died in his throat. The circle of people followed his gaze.

Tobi was standing five feet away, a glass of sparkling water in his hand, looking perfectly bored.

"Finish the story, Mr. Okeke," Tobi said, his voice calm but carrying through the sudden silence. "I was curious to hear how the 'madness' ends."

Segun stepped forward, his face twisting. "You've got a lot of nerve showing up here, Tobi. This is a gathering for the engines of Nigeria's economy. Not for lucky gamblers who found a glitch in the system."

"Engines?" Tobi tilted his head. [Contractor's Eye: Analyze Segun's 'Engine'.]

[Analysis Complete: Segun's 'Transport Empire' is currently ₦400 Million in debt to foreign creditors. Liquidity: Critical.]

Tobi smiled. It wasn't a friendly smile. "Funny you mention engines, Segun. I was just looking at your company's latest quarterly report. Or rather, the one you haven't shown your father yet. Tell me, how does it feel to drive a Lamborghini while your father's fleet is being repossessed by the banks?"

The color drained from Segun's face so fast it was like someone had pulled a plug. The socialites around them began to murmur, their eyes darting to their phones.

"You... you're lying!" Segun stammered.

"I don't lie. I deliver," Tobi said. He turned his gaze to Okeke. "And you, sir. You said I'd be lucky to be breathing. Well, I'm breathing the same air as you tonight. Only difference is, I own the building you're standing in."

"What?" Okeke gasped.

Just then, a hush fell over the room as a tall, dignified man with salt-and-pepper hair approached. The crowd parted like the Red Sea. It was Alhaji Dangote-Bello, the Chairman of the State Infrastructure Board.

"Mr. Tobi?" the Alhaji asked, ignoring both Segun and Okeke as if they were furniture. "I've been tracking the GPS efficiency of your Apex Logistics fleet. Ninety-eight percent on-time delivery in Lagos traffic? That's not luck. That's a miracle."

Tobi nodded respectfully. "It's technology, Alhaji. And a very disciplined system."

"I have a problem," the Alhaji continued, stepping closer. "The state's medical supply chain is failing. Vaccines are spoiling in the heat because the current contractors are incompetent. I need someone who can move 50,000 units across the city by dawn every day. Are you interested, or are you too busy buying mansions?"

Tobi looked at Okeke, whose jaw was practically on the floor. He looked at Segun, who was trembling. Then he looked at the Alhaji.

"I'll have the first 10,000 units delivered by 6:00 AM tomorrow," Tobi said. "Consider the problem solved."

[New Quest: 'The Lifeline of Lagos']

[Objective: Deliver 50,000 medical units without a single loss.]

[Reward: ₦500,000,000 State Contract + 'Legendary' Reputation.]

Tobi set his glass down on a passing tray and looked at his former boss one last time. "Keep the champagne, Mr. Okeke. You're going to need it when I buy your company for scraps next week."

Tobi turned and walked out, the sound of 241 hearts—and a few hundred more—beating in awe behind him.

[End of Chapter 7]

The face-slap heard 'round Lagos! Tobi just secured a ₦500 Million contract, but the real work starts now. 50,000 units by dawn? Can the Apex System handle the pressure?
