Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Even After Decapitation, It Can Grow Back

"[The Nursery]?" Ada Wong couldn't help but read the characters on the plaque.

"Exactly," Matthew explained. "Children are the pillars of the future, and '[The Nursery]' is precisely the place to nurture hope and allow them to grow strong."

Hearing this, Ada paused, then murmured in a voice only she could hear, '...Strong guy, going for the literary approach, huh?' She then cleared her throat twice. "Ahem! I'll keep a close eye on the progress here."

"Alright, then I'll trouble you to put more effort into it." After settling the orphanage matters, the two got back into the car.

Matthew had barely settled into his office chair back at the company when a knock sounded on his door again. "Enter," he said. As he spoke, a figure in a white lab coat, eyes gleaming with excitement, burst into view.

"William?" Matthew raised an eyebrow in confusion. Why was William Birkin, the workaholic, not working at this hour and coming to see him? Could there have been a major breakthrough in his research?

Before he could voice his questions, William proactively stated the reason for his visit. "Report, boss! Our company's squad captured a new [Experimental Subject] during an off-site mission!"

"A new [Experimental Subject]?" Matthew asked.

"That's right! This subject attacked a company field team at night, but was captured alive due to misjudging the power difference between them." William continued, "The most crucial part is that the field team had tried multiple times to kill the target on the spot, but for some reason, this subject possesses extremely strong vitality and recovery abilities."

"Ordinary bullets couldn't inflict effective damage." William said, his face full of excitement. "It was precisely this point that made us decide to bring it back to the company intact."

"Oh?" Matthew also stood up, curious. "An entity that a regular field team could capture alive but couldn't kill?"

"Take me to see it."

"Alright!" Matthew, his face full of curiosity, followed William towards the laboratory.

After many days of refinement, the laboratory's internal equipment was now highly advanced, filled with newly imported devices required for novel experiments. Of course, Matthew had also been cautious when constructing the laboratory.

To prevent future containment breaches or virus leaks in his laboratories, he used [military-grade protective materials] throughout the internal levels. He had also established a separate internal water circulation system on this level. This system would prevent viruses from flowing into the city via the water system if a leak occurred.

Furthermore, this level was equipped with a dedicated special response unit, armed with heavy firepower. This unit was ready to seal off all entrances and exits immediately after an incident. If necessary, Matthew could even remotely detonate explosives, completely destroying the entire internal level.

This wasn't Matthew being overly cautious; he had simply seen too many such disasters. Countless accidents were caused by a lack of caution. Precisely because of this, Matthew would never allow such a situation to occur.

With a heavy depressurization hiss, the large door slowly opened. He followed William into the core area. The core area was isolated by numerous bulletproof glass panels, ensuring clear observation while allowing external personnel to examine the [Experiment area] more closely.

On a surgical table, a middle-aged man with an unremarkable appearance, even somewhat balding, was tightly bound. Numerous medical instruments for monitoring the subject's vital signs surrounded him.

To get a clearer look, Matthew disregarded the dissuasion of the surrounding researchers. He donned a protective suit and walked over to the surgical table. William Birkin followed closely behind.

"Why isn't he moving?" Matthew's gaze swept over the surgical table.

"To ensure the tests and experiments proceed smoothly, we injected him with a large dose of [Sedative] when he entered the company, putting him into a comatose state while maintaining his vital signs." William paused. "But that's not the main point... The main point is,"

William Birkin, uncharacteristically, built up the suspense. He picked up a scalpel from the side and directly cut a gash into the middle-aged man's neck. It was the location of the carotid artery.

If a normal person had their carotid artery cut, they would at most last five to ten minutes without medical intervention. But under Matthew's astonished gaze, the middle-aged man's cut neck was visibly healing, completing its recovery in barely two seconds.

This recovery speed was comparable to Matthew's current [healing ability]! But that wasn't all!

Next, William retrieved a saw blade and a steel awl from nearby. Without any hesitation, he directly sawed off the middle-aged man's head right in front of Matthew. The head fell to the ground.

The man's body began to convulse wildly. Seeing this, William commanded the external researchers, "Accelerate blood pumping."

"Yes." A large amount of blood flowed into the man's headless body. Under the frantic pumping of blood, the man's neck actually began to grow wildly!

Witnessing this scene, a classic line from the 1986 Journey to the West flashed through Matthew's mind. 'Tiger Power Immortal: Even after decapitation, my head can grow back! Deer Power Immortal: Even with my heart cut out and belly disemboweled, I'll still be whole! Goat Power Immortal: Rolling in a pot of boiling oil is like taking a bath to me! What, is this guy from the same school as those three?'
