Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Reactions

After chatting with the viewers for a while longer, Jenny hurriedly ended the livestream.

This livestream could be said to be the most glorious episode in Jenny's entire streaming career.

The actual viewer count had once peaked at over six hundred thousand, and even after the platform's cut, the gifts she received still added up to over thirty grand.

She had basically earned a massive windfall!

Yet she had no desire to keep streaming any longer.

Playing this game had left her with far too deep a psychological shadow. Right now she just wanted to take a breather.

After ending the livestream, Jenny immediately went looking for Lucien again.

At that moment Lucien was sitting in front of his computer, typing away nonstop as he made some improvements to Silent Hill PT.

After using Jenny as his first guinea pig for testing, Lucien had discovered one thing.

Silent Hill was simply too scary, so he needed to add some safety measures.

Current VR devices all came with heart rate and blood pressure detection functions. The measure Lucien wanted to add was this:

if a player's heart rate or blood pressure rose too high during gameplay, the game would automatically force an exit.

This would serve as a safeguard.

After all, he did not want any player to actually get scared to death while playing a game he had made.

Otherwise he might end up facing a lawsuit.

"Hey Luc, where on earth did you get this horror game from? I'm a pretty experienced gamer myself, and I've never seen anything this awesome!"

As soon as she walked into the room, Jenny asked urgently.

"Where else could it come from? I made it. What do you think I've been doing all week sitting at the computer?" Lucien replied with a smile.

"You made it?" Jenny was completely stunned. "A game this awesome was actually made by my brother?"

"Who else?" Lucien spread his hands.

"No way, are you really that capable?!" Jenny felt like she was meeting her little brother for the first time. She looked him up and down.

"Are you still my lazy, good-for-nothing brother who only knows how to eat and slack off?!"

Jenny was naturally extremely shocked. Although Lucien had graduated with a computer science degree, suddenly producing such an incredible game that completely outclassed everything on the market was truly astonishing.

Lucien rolled his eyes, too lazy to keep bantering with her. "Anyway, Sis, you've already played the game. Tell me your thoughts."

"It's awesome. That's all I can say," Jenny admitted sincerely. "It just has one flaw: it's way too fucking scary."

"I think my courage is pretty decent, but I definitely wouldn't dare play this game a second time."

"Ahem, I can understand. After all, you got so scared you wet yourself," Lucien coughed.

Jenny's face instantly turned red. She rushed over to Lucien, grabbed his shoulders.

"That's because I drank too much water before playing and couldn't hold it in! And let me tell you, you are not allowed to tell anyone about this!"

"You absolutely cannot tell anyone, not even Mom and Dad, or I'll strangle you!!!!"

As she shouted, she shook Lucien's shoulders violently.

"I won't say anything, I won't say anything!"

Lucien's head was spinning from the shaking. He quickly nodded in agreement.

Only then did Jenny stop. But she quickly thought of something else.

"Wait a second, Luc. Since you made this game, why are you releasing it for free? You should at least sell it for a few hundred bucks!"

The game's quality was simply too high. Jenny felt that even selling the test version would leave players with nothing to complain about. After all, the eye-catchingly realistic visuals put it on a completely different level from every other VR game currently on the market!

Just that sense of realism alone was worth a lot of money!

"No need to worry. This is only a trial run."

Lucien answered with a smile: "I'll make other games in the future. There will be plenty more chances to earn big money. Just wait and see."

It had to be said that Lucien's decision to let Jenny test Silent Hill had been extremely correct.

That same night, both Jenny and Silent Hill PT exploded across the internet.

The recording of Jenny's gameplay session went straight to the front page of every major video website, and the view count climbed visibly higher by the minute.

Netizens watching the gameplay footage were badly frightened yet also left a flood of comments in the sections:

"What the fuck, this game is way too fucking realistic and way too fucking scary!!"

"I seriously thought it was a first-person horror movie!"

"I was even dumber. I thought it was some streamer investigating a real haunted location (facepalm)."

"HAHAHA, once this game comes out I'm making my little brother play it!"

"What game company made this? Ubisoft?"

"Ubisoft? Are you kidding? Could Ubisoft actually make a game this good?"

"Probably a foreign studio, right?"

"That doesn't add up. The game was first revealed by a domestic streamer, and it even has full English voice acting. It really looks like it was made by a American company!"

"If it's not Ubisoft, then is it Nintendo? Or Epic Games?"

"With this level of quality, I honestly don't believe foreign tech could produce it. Of course, feel free to prove me wrong."
