Chapter 27 - The New Arsenal

[Mutant Beast Slain: Stone Golem.]

[Beast Soul Acquired: Stone Golem.]

The system's mechanical voice echoed in Verso's mind, bringing a wave of satisfaction that far outweighed his exhaustion.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand and looked at the jagged mount of rubble he had spent the last hour creating.

'That should be enough.'

He turned to the golden runed giant standing beside him. The golem stood tall, its massive stone chest rising and falling in a silent cry which showed how much energy it had used up past few hours.

"You did well, big guy. You can rest now."

With a mental tug, he sent the giant back into his summoning space.

Verso stretched his arms over his head, his spine popping with a series of loud cracks that made him groan out in relief.

He had been hunting straight for the past ten hours. His strategy of using his own Mutant Golem to surprise the others had worked out perfectly and unlike his previous attempts, he had not died once using this method.

'That makes three.'

He walked away from the clearing, his legs feeling heavy as he searched for a place to recover. Just as he found a relatively flat rock that looked relatively safe and walked up to it prepared to sit down, the system chimed again.

[Primitive Beast Slain: Minor Stone Golem.]

[Beast Soul Acquired: Minor Stone Golem.]

Slowly sitting down, Verso leaned his back against a cold stone wall and let out a dry laugh.

'Looks like he's hard at work.'

He had sent Lil Bone off into the upper parts of the crater to hunt the Minor Stone Golems to increase his hunting efficiency.

And over the past ten hours, the marble skeleton had became a literal whirlwind of destruction, slaughtering over a hundred golems on its own.

"I still don't get it, though." he muttered, staring at the pinkish blue sky above the crater.

He had expected that obtaining his first Mutant beast soul would trigger some kind of evolution guide for Lil Bone, but to his dismay the system had remained silent. The skeleton was still sitting at a complete hundred percent of Primitive rank just like a glass full to the brim.

'But at least I can afford to test things out now.'

Verso pulled up the synthesis menu. Although he had enough Mutant souls to upgrade his Giant Golem he had decided against it, he wanted to use all three of them in the fight against Xavier.

So instead, he turned his attention to the mountain of Minor Golem souls he had just acquired. With the new seven that were just added to his summoning space because of Lil Bone, he now held a total of twelve Primitive Golems.

Without breaking a sweat he selected a fresh Minor Stone Golem as the base for the synthesis and picked two others as materials.

'Confirm.'

[Synthesis Complete.]

There was no flash of light this time since he hadn't summoned the creature out yet. Curious to see the difference that the synthesis had made, Verso called the upgraded golem into the real world.

THUD.

Rocks floated and slammed together, forming a golem that stood seven feet tall. It was significantly larger and more jagged than the three feet minors he was used to.

'It got bigger!'

Verso quickly pulled up the beast's status window to check the stats.

'It reached a hundred percent.'

His theory had been right. Using two souls as material was enough to push a Primitive beast to its absolute stat cap.

A wicked thought crossed his mind as he looked back at his synthesis window and began a massive batch upgrade, merging the dozen of primitive souls.

'Oh god, he wont even know what hit him.'

Verso thought about the fight that he was preparing for as a mischievous smile appeared on his face.

In The Academy Hallway

Verso walked through the white corridors of Meridian High with a noticeably different sway in his step. He was even whistling a low, rhythmic tune that echoed off the walls.

Groups of students stopped and stared at him as he passed them by. Some whispering using their hands as cover, while others just shook their heads.

"Look at him." One girl muttered with a frown.

"I think he has finally lost his shit."

"Must be the trauma of awakening." her friend replied with a look of deep pity.

"Poor guy."

Verso hearing this entire conversation did not react as he no longer cared. If anything, their pity only made his whistling louder.

'These losers.' He thought.

'I wonder how they would react if I showed them what's in my soul space right now.'

A wide smile stretched across his face.

Last night's grind had been legendary. He had synthesized every last one of his Minor Golems into four completely maxed out, seven foot tall versions.

His current arsenal of summons was staggering for a somebody people casually addressed as a failure. He currently was the master of three Mutant giants and four maxed out Primitive golems.

He didn't even count Lil Bone in that tally. The skeleton to him was less for a summon and more of a hunting partner who served as a trump card, for when he gets put in a desperate situation.

As he reached his classroom he took a second and he paused at the door. Looking inside he spotted Xavier immediately.

The blond bully was sitting in the front row, his feet up on a desk as he played a video game on his phone.

Two of his lackeys stood over him, talking about something that Xavier was clearly ignoring.

Verso walked toward the back of the room, his eyes locked onto Xavier's face like a predator.

'My lovely cash cow...'

The smile on Verso's face turned into something much creepier as he sat down and opened his notebook.

'Just wait. I'm coming for you.'
