Chapter 26 - The Stone Golem (1)

"Now!"

Verso's voice cracked as he ran while shouting on top of his lungs. Right behind him thunderous rhythm of heavy footsteps followed.

The ground was convulsing as behind him, the Giant Golem was closing the distance, each stride hitting the earth like a small earthquake.

"What are you waiting for?!" He shouted, sounding more desperate.

Just as the golem got close, its massive shadow stretched over him, but just then suddenly the beast's head exploded in a violent eruption of rocks that few everywhere.

BOOM.

The nine foot frame collapsing mid stride, sliding through the dirt like a falling mountain as dirt and debris flew up in the air.

[Mutant Beast Slain: Stone Golem.]

[Beast Soul Acquired: Stone Golem.]

"Finally!"

Verso shouted an excitement as he slowed to a halt. Leaning forward with his hands on his knees he breathed heavily as he fought for air to enter his lungs.

As the dust around him settled he looked back with an angry look. In front of him he saw Lil Bone who was walking over to him calmly by jumping over the rubble.

The skeleton didn't look tired at all. If anything it looked smug with its jaw was stretched into a smile.

"You fucker, you did that on purpose!" Verso barked at his summon.

The marble skeleton stopped and gave a simple exaggerated shrug, as if it had no idea what he was talking about. It stood there with its head tilted, perfectly playing the part of an innocent summon.

'I hate this guy so much.'

Verso shook his head and waved his hand, pulling the skeleton back into his summoning space. He couldn't stay here.

The sound of the battle and explosion was a dinner bell for every other monster in the area.

"I need to get to safety first."

He sprinted further up the trail, darting between jagged boulders until he found a narrow crevice deep enough to hide his silhouette.

He pressed his back against the cold stone and slid down until he was sitting.

"This should be fine."

A wide, genuine smile broke across his face as he closed his eyes and pulled up the interface for the newest addition to his arsenal.

'Just like I thought.'

Based on his experience fighting them for the past two days, the stats were exactly what he expected. Even though for a Mutant rank, it was on the lower end of the spectrum but it was still a massive leap over his Minor Golems.

'Lets try this out.'

Even though the Giant was weak, Verso had already made a plan around this. He had decided on using the functions the system had granted him to their fullest potential.

'Synthesis.'

He focused in as he pulled up the fusion window and then he selected the new Mutant Golem as the base.

He reached for his Minor Golems to use as materials, but the moment he had selected the giant, his five primitive summons turned grey and became unselectable.

'What? I can't use my minor golems?'

He had planned to feed his entire squad of five primitives into the giant to boost its stats and create an unstoppable tank to use against Xavier. But the system had given him a blunt response by telling him that he couldn't synthesize a Mutant base with Primitive materials.

'That makes sense, but...'

Verso frowned. It was obviously a fair limitation, but it left him with a dilemma. He had a Mutant summon now, but he was still one step behind the true elites of the academy.

He needed to figure out how to get more power before the duel with Xavier.

'What do I do?'

THUD.

The sound was distant, but heavy. Hearing it, Verso's eyes lit up. He looked down the trail in the direction of the noise.

"Well then, I guess I just have to get more of them."

He stood up, his mind already calculating how to make use of his new tool as he reached into his summoning space and tugged.

"Come out."

In front of him, massive boulders began to float and pull together, bound by threads of golden sun like energy as within seconds, the nine foot giant stood ready for combat.

"Use your mana beam the second you see it."

Verso gave it the command before he moved back into the shadows. He planned on letting his new summon take on this fight completely alone.

He was going to capitalize on the surprise to catch the golem completely off guard as it turned around the and before finishing it off with the mana beam before it even got a chance to fight back.

Just as he waited in the dark the heavy thuds grew louder as rocks around started shaking. A patrolling Giant Golem slowly rounded the corner, its blue crystal scanning the path.

But even before the wild monster could register the intruder, Verso's summon brought forward its hand aiming at the beast. Yellow mana on its body moving towards its palm, swirling into a dense sphere before screaming with compressed energy.

BOOM!

The beam caught the wild golem squarely in the forehead which made the the blue crystal shatter instantly as the monster dropped on the ground turning into a pile of rubble before it could even react.

[Mutant Beast Slain: Stone Golem.]

Verso slowly walked out from his hiding spot, the golden light of his summon reflecting in his eye as he looked at the giant who brought its hand down and turned to its master waiting for the next command.

Looking at the performance of his new summon a sinister smile appeared on his face before he turned to look at the pile of rubble.

He had just came up with the perfect solution to his problem.

"I guess we know what we will be doing all day."
