Chapter 14 - Relentless Chase

The two young women quickly hopped into the back of the silver limousine.

Ivory had noticed how spacious the car was from the inside and how comfortable the red velvet seats were. She was almost lost in the blissful moment.

It was only because of Abagail's scared expression, clear as day on her face that was filled with confusion and uncertainty, that caused her to stay put in reality. Her expression had become the only thing causing her to not dissociate in this situation.

The woman in front of them who wore a tattered black jacket and held a stern look on her face gazed at the driver who sat still. The twins were slowly coming into view in the rear view mirror.

The mysterious woman sneered, "What the hell are you waiting for? Drive…"

The driver in a grey flat top looked away in dismay at the situation before responding.

He says, "No. I'm sorry. This is where we part ways, Faye. I'm grateful for everything you've done for me but I needed immunity. I needed help from the council."

Ivory began to tremble at the fact she may be taken back to that horrible hospital. If they caught her this time, they would definitely get rid of her for good.

A thought hit Ivory at that moment as sharp as an arrow seemingly piercing through her thoughts after they had decided to run around in circles in her head.

This person named Faye in front of her was this the same person working with Icarus? The same person who sold those off brand sun screen bottles and owned Sinners' street? Is that why she decided to help them because Icarus asked her to?

Ivory noticed in the corner of her eye how Abigail sat still and was looking at her with apprehension.

The young woman didn't know Ivory at all it seemed. In her point of view Ivory was hanging around thugs and wandering into dangerous areas like Sinners' street. She was probably wondering who her friend really was?

Ivory met Abigail's gaze. She looked at her sympathetically in a way that screamed she was sorry for involving her in this situation but in a way that gave her the message she didn't have time to explain what was going on.

Ivory shifted her focus toward Faye. She wasn't scared. In fact she seemed absolutely calm. It was eerily clear that something was going to happen very soon.

It was the way her hands clutched something deep in her jacket's pocket. The eerily calmness she radiated. There wasn't too much longer before something was going to occur.

The driver held a small apologetic smile on his face and refused to look at her, "Look Faye. I'm sorry. Don't take this personally but I really just wanted to live. I needed…"

In a swift motion, Faye takes out a small knife from her pocket and stabs it into the man's neck.

Faye mimics the man's apologetic smile as she takes out the knife slowly from his neck, "No. I'm sorry… that you won't get to live. You traitor."

Life went out of his eyes faster than Abigail and Ivory could react.

A pool of blood started to gather underneath the driver's seat. Ivory felt her heart begin to race and her vision begin to blur. She was sobbing and as much as she tried to be present with her best friend. Her mind wandered to another place.

The memory of her father being burned alive in the endless day light began to play in her mind.

Her father's screams all those years ago were deafened in an instant as his body was turned to ash.

This was her first introduction to what death was and this situation she found herself in had become her second.

Ivory forced her thoughts to come back to the present. As she tried to cling on to reality, a headache started to surface in her body.

She sobbed from the pain spreading in her head and the murder she just witnessed.

Unexpectedly at that very moment, like someone had heard her cries. A miracle had occurred.

A cold calmness descended on her mind as snow flake patterns started to appear on her neck. Small ice particles had started to be released from her hand as she felt her feelings start to become numb.

Ivory guessed the powers she gained must have sensed a heightened amount of stress in her body that it deemed could only be fixed by erasing the feelings entirely, to focus on the potential threats around her.

Ivory turned her head to calmly look over at Abigail as she was crying and hugging herself, positioning herself to be as far away from her as possible. This small moment made her realize her friend might have already lost faith in her.

Had the distance between them spoken volumes or could she just be misinterpreting the situation?

She reached out her hand toward Abigail but quickly pulled her hand back. The coldness of both her hands and the one present in the situation would be too much for her friend.

That didn't matter right now. None of that mattered. She had to focus on one thing and that was making sure both of them survived. Abigail could hate her but Ivory wasn't going to let her die.

Maybe it really was fine for Abigail to hate her because maybe a part of her believed she deserved it for dragging her into this situation.

Ivory pushed those thoughts momentarily out of her mind and decided to shift her attention to Faye.

The older woman quickly opened the driver's side door to her left. She pushed the dead body out of the open door with effort and took control of the vehicle like an animal refusing to die in the jaws of a predator.

The owner of Sinners' street had killed someone right in front of Ivory and Abigail. How could she act so callously and not feel any remorse for her actions? This was definitely not the first time the older woman had killed someone.

Faye glanced at the rear view mirror again and noticed that the twins were missing.

She muttered under her breath and turned to check her blind spot, "Fuck. Where are they?"

Faye shifted gears from park to drive as the wheels remained still. The car sounded like it was stuck in some sort of tar and was struggling to move through it.

Shhhhh. Shhhhh.

A decayed head began slowly popping up from underneath the wheel similar to a snake woken from its slumber and preparing to strike. It was no doubt one of the twins due to the shape of its head but the head lacked skin, leaving only flesh and its eyes to greet all of them.

The remnants of the twin's eyes looked directly at Ivory, unable to look away.

Ivory gritted her teeth and looked in horror at the monster outside of the window in front them.

This was the end of the line for all of them, wasn't it?
