Chapter 17 - A Home

"So… are you going to leave?" the man added again.

"Bastard, who do you think you are, getting in my way?"

Ahh… I can already tell this is one of those situations. The bad guy acts tough, then gets shut down. It's honestly kind of fucking cringe being stuck in this cliché—I can't stand it.

"Hey, we'll ask one last time. Leave now, or it won't end well for you," the woman said firmly.

Ooh… look at her stepping up. They're all doing this for me. I feel… weirdly cared for right now.

"Hey, bro, we should leave. Look at those high-tier weapons," the skinny guy muttered.

"Tch. You got lucky, little girl… but someone's gonna take you one day," the egg-headed man sneered before turning and walking off.

Finally.

That bastard just wasted our time. Honestly, if he wasn't actually going to use force or anything, what was the point of all that? Go make money or something instead of bothering me.

Whatever. At least these people helped us.

"Hey, you guys alright?" the man asked, his voice softer now as he knelt to meet my eye level.

"Yeah, thanks for saving us," I replied in a cheerful, childish tone. That's all I can really give him.

"Yeah, thanks," Aurelia added.

"Thank you, mister," Zerelia said.

…Wait. They're not even stuttering anymore.

Do they seriously just trust people instantly?

Tch… is it really that easy? That kind of trust feels fragile. If it comes that easily, it can break just as easily.

Man… i just realized i could have burnt off their faces now I'm pissed.

…Whatever.

"Hey, mister, can you give us directions to an inn?" I asked, forcing a smile despite the irritation creeping in.

I'm really good at hiding emotions. One useful thing from my past life.

"Sure. But if someone like that comes again, you should shout for help," he said.

Is he genuinely trying to help… or just acting nice?

I can hide emotions well, but reading people? Yeah… I'm not great at that. Still, I can tell when someone wants to kill me or do something dirty. That's enough for now.

"Okay, thanks for the advice," I said as we followed him.

His group stayed quiet, just watching me. It was kind of weird… and then I realised why.

Oh, thank god.

It actually remembered what I wanted. If it hadn't, things could've gotten messy. Right now, all I want is to find an inn.

I've got one gold and five hundred silver left… hopefully that's enough.

They can probably still see parts of my status, but it'll just show me as a weak person with basic abilities. The bracelet though… yeah, that might raise some suspicion.

"Here—this is a pretty decent inn. We're staying here too, so if you need anything, just ask," he said proudly.

"Thank you so much, mister," I replied sweetly.

"Thank you so much," Aurelia and Zerelia echoed.

…They really are trusting him a lot.

I should tell them not to trust people so easily, but that might make me sound too mature. That's the last thing I want right to sound like. So… I'll just go with the flow.

"Hi, sir, how much for a couple of nights?" I asked politely at the counter.

"Well, a day is about fifty silver. A week is three hundred and fifty. Warm water is an extra fifty, and food is included for your stay," the innkeeper replied.

So… four hundred silver per week.

Three weeks would be one-thousand two hundred silver.

"Okay, we'd like to stay for three weeks. Here's one gold and five hundred silver—so three hundred silver change," I said.

Math's easy.

"Wow, little miss, you know your numbers. You're so small too—how old are you?"

Oh, for fuck's sake. The one time I try to be smart…

"I'm seven," I said sweetly, smiling so he wouldn't get suspicious.

"Well, you're pretty clever. Here's your key and your change. Your warm water will be brought up shortly."

"Thank you, sir," I replied with a smile.

"Let's go, Aurelia, Zerelia—we finally have a place to stay."

They looked at me, their faces lighting up. Their eyes actually… sparkled.

They ran up to me.

"W-wow, Celestia, you're so smart… you can do maths, and you helped us this whole time… thank you so much," Aurelia said, tearing up.

"Y-yes… honestly, thank you s-so much," Zerelia added, smiling.
