Kai
For the past week, when I wasn't advertising my services to Michael up in heaven, playing with Konan, practicing with her in the woods, or teaching her, I was practicing magic.
And I mean practicing.
Do you know how hard it is to make a magic Rasengan? A lot harder than when doing it with chakra, I'll tell you that.
It takes a lot of concentration to create a murderous ball of energy.
With chakra, after a few tries, everything just clicked. The absurd talent I copied from Konan was guiding me.
Magic was far more chaotic and unruly. That didn't mean I failed to cast spells or anything. In fact, I did create a whole bunch of spells.
They were weak and kind of wasted a lot of energy, but I did it anyway.
I created the Stunning Spell, the Petrification Spell, and the Killing Curse.
Yes, they work even if it's a different setting. And yes, they actually work. I tested them. On animals.
I wanted to try the Killing Curse on a human—there's no shortage of pieces of shit—but Konan was with me, and I didn't want her to see that yet.
I want her to be a little more well-adjusted than ninjas, and killing people in front of her wasn't going to help with that.
'Although, I don't honestly know if my spells work because of my Essence of the Blank or because devil magic is a cheat.'
I am more inclined to believe it's the former, because if it worked like that, then there should have been at least one devil who figured it out. Right?
Knock knock knock.
The knocking on the door broke me from my ever-wandering thoughts, and I jumped off the sofa, heading toward the door.
I opened the door and came face to face with a face and a chest.
No, really. I had to look up to see the guy.
"Sairaorg," I greeted, extending my hand. "Good to see you, man."
"Kai," the boisterous voice and firm handshake were the reply.
"Kuisha," I inclined my head in greeting.
"Kai-san."
"Ah, drop the 'san' thing, please," I waved my hand as I turned around and started to walk back inside. "Sona Sitiri has taught me that I like my name without any additions."
The two devils walked inside, closing the door behind them.
"She's still trying to figure out the perfect contract for herself, I take it?" Kuisha asked as she sat down.
"Yeah. She wants power but doesn't want to pay for it," I shrugged.
"It matters not," Sairaorg said. "We came here to finalize the deal we talked about."
"Oh? Did you finish setting up everything already?"
"Of course." He nodded proudly before Kuisha hit his ribs with her elbow, and he added, "I mean, Kuisha set things up and I helped."
I quirked my eyebrow at her, but she just stared at me with those green eyes of hers, as if saying, 'What?'
"So, let's reiterate the terms of our previous agreement before we continue." I decided to ignore the couple's antics and just focus on my deal.
"I will give both of you the ability to heal. For Sairaorg, it will only work on sleeping sickness. For Kuisha, she will get the ability to cast healing magic to a certain degree in general. And in return, I will gain a 12% cut of the profit you make from these powers in any way or form, preferably in gold. Is that all?"
"Yes, that's everything," Kuisha nodded her head, the blonde ponytail she had swaying with every nod.
Sairaorg just looked like he was about to achieve his lifelong dream. His eyes watering slightly as his face shifted expression as if he couldn't decide if he was excited, nervous, or just grateful.
I knew why he looked like that, and I couldn't fault him either.
It was the reason I went easy on him, too. I really wanted to gain his power, but I couldn't exploit one's hope to heal their mother like that.
I told him that when we first met five days ago, but he was determined to not take anything unless paid for, so I told him about making a business out of it and giving me a share of the profit.
It was the reason they went back to the Underworld first. Something about registering a business and maneuvering household politics.
I toned that part out.
"Okay then, sign these," I said as I produced the contract with my paper release, the terms and conditions already written on it.
Kuisha hit Sairaorg's hand when he reached to take the contract and took them instead.
She read them thoroughly, if the way she was comparing the two was any indication.
"What's this part about not harming you…" she looked at me unsurely.
"You do realize that me being able to grant power is not normal, right?"
"Of course I do," she rolled her eyes at me while blocking Sairaorg's mouth to stop him from spouting shounen-level cringey bullshit.
"Then the protection clause shouldn't come as a surprise to you."
"That's not why I'm surprised, though."
"Huh?"
"Didn't we already make a deal to not harm you when we met?"
"Yeah?"
"And you don't see how that's redundant?"
"No, I do. But it's my safety, so…"
Sairaorg snatched the papers from her hand and quickly signed them.
He was very quick.
"Sai!" Kuisha shouted in exasperation, but Sairaorg didn't care. He was looking at me expectantly.
I summoned my case and opened it. The ten pills set to make anyone who ate one of them able to heal sleeping sickness in devils.
I set the limitations to the DxD world and only sickness, not actual sleep.
I didn't add any side effects either.
I just made the duration of the healing take between one to ten seconds.
That's it.
Sairaorg took the pill and swallowed it so fast I couldn't even see what color it changed to.
He then gained a slightly hazy and far-off look for a few seconds before tears started to drop down his face. His smile widened, looking so innocently relieved that it stunned Kuisha.
The girl looked like she was seeing the guy for the first time before her face started to turn red and a blush crept onto her face.
I unsummoned my case and summoned it again, this time making the pill grant the taker a unique, irreplaceable but highly inheritable ability to cast healing magic through devil magic.
I set a few limitations, like the most one can use the spell is to replicate the effects of Phenex tears.
I also set the limitation that this ability cannot be inherited unless the child is a natural child of Kuisha and Sairaorg.
I set a few other limitations, but they were mostly to keep people from trying to engineer a kid or something.
Kuisha took her pill, her green eyes shining as she took a sudden deep breath.
Her body started to shine in dark green for a few seconds. Sairaorg and I watched the effects with interest.
She calmed down a few seconds later before she looked at me with an indescribable look.
"Are those limitations really necessary?"
"What limitations?"
"Well, I made it so that the power will be highly likely to be inherited only if the child she sires is yours."
"Oh…" He was stunned, his mouth slightly open as his brain tried to process what he heard. "Why did you do that?" he asked, more curiosity than offense.
"Well, it was apparent you two liked each other," I explained, watching with delight as both their faces turned slightly more pink. "And I know for a fact that old men with nothing to do but scheme will try to make her power accessible in any way necessary, hence the few limitations…"
Sairaorg suddenly looked serious. He was a lot more intense and intimidating when he was serious.
'Well, anyone with that kind of muscle will be, I guess,' I thought as I tried not to make my envy appear on my face.
The guy was tall, almost two meters (six feet?), with broad shoulders, biceps the size of thighs, and muscles that screamed power.
This was a body that had been sculpted by the most intense training imaginable.
'Compared to that, I might as well be a twink,' I grimaced, regretting not taking a copy of his power.
Wait, there's an idea…
"Well, now that this deal is done," I said, interrupting the silent conversation they were having, "what do you say we make a new one where I give you the ability to use magic and your clan trait? Huh?"
"Thank you for the offer, Kai." Sairaorg stood up, patting my shoulder. "But I swore years ago that I will become a Satan with nothing but the power of my body, and I can't break a promise to myself."
'Fuck, I lost a shounen power…'
"Maybe after I achieve my dream, I shall accept your offer."
"Deal," I said, extending my hand, stunning both Sairaorg and Kuisha.
"Wh…what did you just do?"
"I made a deal that I will sell you the ability to use magic after you become a Satan."
"Just like that?"
"Hmm. Just like that." I smiled victoriously.
Sairaorg started to have a laughing fit after that.
"I knew I liked you for a reason," he said between laughs.
"We shall meet again…" he said goodbye as he and Kuisha teleported out of the room.
'I really need to learn teleportation…'
