"Congratulations. You have obtained the skill: Unfortunate Misfortune."

Froggy, still lying on the ground, let out a long sigh.

Froggy: …What is that even supposed to mean?

[UNFORTUNATE MISFORTUNE]

Description: You can transfer your bad luck onto a specific target for 10 seconds. May also make others feel pity for you.

Skill Level: SSR

Cooldown: 3 weeks after use

Froggy: Three weeks?! That's a scam…

The dwarves were already getting back on their feet, their vision slowly returning. Froggy stood up too. Everyone was sore—bruised, battered—but nothing too serious.

Dwarves: TRUM CRAT!

Froggy: Uh… yeah…

He got up to run—but something felt off. The ground suddenly trembled beneath him. He stumbled and fell again.

Froggy: It's actually shaking!

The dwarves collapsed as well. Everything started to quake—the ground, the rocks in the distance… as if the whole world was shifting at once. Then it stopped abruptly, leaving only confusion behind.

[SYSTEM NOTICE]

"A new source of hostility has been detected."

Froggy: Huh?

No time to think. The dwarves were after him again. Slower this time… just like him. None of them had the strength left for a proper chase. Panting, exhausted, they all dropped to the ground once more.

Twar struggled to breathe, his companions just as drained. But the demon was still there. They had to kill it… even if their bodies refused to cooperate.

He raised his axe toward the demon—but missed. Barely moved, really. The axe wouldn't have reached anyway. It was heavy—easy to wield under normal conditions, but now… he was spent.

A cunning demon. Leading them on for hours, draining them before the fight. Disgusting.

The demon gestured with his hands.

???: Twar, maybe we should head back. That tremor…

Twar: It won't matter if this bastard escapes. He could report our position to the army.

???: But we can't kill him. We already tried.

Twar: I don't care.

Twar charged again, fueled by anger—by everything he'd lost to creatures like this. But he stopped.

The demon was still just as ugly… but more than that, he was selfish. Too selfish to put vengeance above survival.

Twar clenched his teeth.

Twar: Let's go!

???: But the demon—

Twar: Let him crawl back to wherever he came from. Doesn't matter anymore.

The dwarves gathered their weapons and began the slow walk back.

But to their surprise… the demon followed them.

Whenever they stopped, he stopped at a distance. When they moved again, so did he.

A vein pulsed on Twar's forehead.

Twar: Do you mind getting lost?! You got what you wanted!

He hurled a stone with all his strength. It landed near Froggy.

Froggy kept following. Of course he wanted to escape—but he thought it through. Another cave? Another miserable shelter? He'd take the memory of that straw bed over that any day.

Still, he wasn't eager to get beaten up again, so he kept his distance.

He didn't have many options. But the system had given him something useful. That skill… it wasn't bad.

Maybe, if the dwarf chief saw him and he used it, things would go like this:

Froggy (imagining): I'm just a poor hero… help me!

He'd cling to the dwarf chief.

Dwarf Chief (imagined): Of course, hero! We'll help you!

And just like that—problem solved.

Not brilliant. But it might work.

Froggy: So… what do you think about the system?

[SYSTEM NOTICE]

"Intelligence parameters require adjustment."

Froggy: …Okay… speaking of that… let's check my stats.

A floating window appeared before him.

Froggy: Hey… did my endurance go up?

The system didn't answer.

But Froggy started connecting the dots. Maybe it was simple—do something, get better at it. Just like real life.

Froggy: Maybe I can improve everything else too…

Not all hope was lost.

Froggy: Now I just need to meet up with Star again.

Star was strange—but not a bad guy. Still, one question remained: how were they supposed to get out of this mess together?

Froggy: Maybe he already found us a ride.

Did this world even have carts? As far as he knew, fantasy worlds didn't really do that. Strange… none of this matched what he thought he knew.

Then again… he barely knew anything at all.

Froggy: Ah… I can see the cave…

They were almost there.

The dwarves stopped.

The ground began to shake again.
