Chapter 8 - 8: Planning for the Future

Returning to my bed, I pulled the covers up and closed my eyes. I did not sleep immediately. Instead, I reflected on the plot of Attack on Titan. The past week had been spent recovering from injuries, gathering information, and restoring my strength. Only now did I have the time to strategize. Foreknowledge is the greatest advantage of a transmigrator; knowing the future compensates for many weaknesses.

The story begins with the Shiganshina District at the southern end of Wall Maria being breached by the Colossal Titan, followed by a wave of Titans entering the area. Wall Maria is then breached again by the Armored Titan, forcing residents to flee to the relative safety of Wall Rose. Humanity loses a third of its territory. The narrative is seen primarily through , , and , with memories from other characters woven in to fill out the story.

I was clearly in a timeline before the main events unfolded—before Mikasa's parents were killed by traffickers and before Mikasa was abducted and saved by Eren. I now knew what had to happen, and I intended to prevent it. My current strength might not match a direct confrontation against the traffickers, but with my bow, arrows, and Demon Hunter techniques, I could plan a strategy to stop them.

The key incident begins when plans to bring Eren to the Ackerman home and informs Mikasa's parents in advance. The traffickers strike before his arrival, killing Mikasa's parents and abducting her. I silently memorized this event, committing it to mind before allowing myself to rest.

The next morning, I woke early, washed, and changed into my outdoor clothes. On my way out of my room, I ran into Mikasa leaving another room. She wore a beige ankle-length dress and slippers that revealed her fair toes. Her hair hung loose, and she looked half-awake.

"Morning, Mikasa," I greeted.

"Morning, Jax," she replied, rubbing her eyes and stifling a yawn.

I furrowed my brow slightly. "Why are you so sleepy? You usually wake up at this time."

"Mosquitoes," she said with a hint of exhaustion. "They kept me awake half the night. I didn't sleep well at all." Another yawn followed.

Seeing Mikasa like this was a novel experience. The anime never showed her childhood in such detail; only brief glimpses appeared in "Mikasa's Memories."

Her sleepy, delicate expression made me feel a strange sense of affection. I reached out and gently rubbed her head. In the anime, only her parents or Eren were ever accepted by her for such contact, though Eren himself never seemed to have done it. I felt a surge of satisfaction, a small personal victory.

"Mmu…" Mikasa leaned against my shoulder and lightly pushed me toward the stairs. A reminder: Mikasa and I lived on the second floor, while her parents stayed on the first.
