Chapter 34 - Home Sweet Home

orning came quietly.

Sunlight filtered through the curtains, soft and warm, settling over the living room like it belonged there.

For once—

Nothing felt tense.

A New Routine

Gu Yi arrived earlier than usual.

This time—

The door opened before he even knocked.

Gu Xin stood there, looking up at him.

"You're late."

Gu Yi blinked.

Then checked the time instinctively.

"…I'm two minutes early."

Gu Xin tilted their head slightly.

"That's still later than yesterday."

A pause.

Then—

Gu Yi let out a quiet huff of amusement.

"…I'll try to improve."

And just like that—

He stepped inside.

Fitting In

It wasn't awkward anymore.

Not like before.

There was still space—Still distance—

But it no longer felt uncertain.

It felt…

Natural.

Gu Lin was already working on something at the table.

"You said you'd help finish it."

No greeting.

No hesitation.

Just expectation.

Gu Yi nodded.

"I remember."

He sat down beside them without thinking.

Like he had done it a hundred times before.

Small, Quiet Moments

Time passed in simple ways.

Gu Yi adjusting a component while Gu Lin watched closely

Gu Xin correcting something mid-process without asking

Gu Yan sitting nearby, observing everything in silence

No one forced conversation.

But no one avoided it either.

It flowed.

The First Sign of Comfort

At some point—

Gu Yan shifted closer.

Not noticeably.

Just… closer.

Until their shoulder lightly touched his arm.

They didn't say anything.

Neither did he.

But he didn't move away.

From the Kitchen

Mingyun watched quietly.

A cup of tea forgotten in her hands.

This scene—

So simple.

So ordinary.

And yet—

It was something she had never allowed herself to imagine.

Not like this.

Not real.

Lunch Together

They ate together.

Not perfectly.

Not formally.

Just… together.

Gu Xin asked questions between bites.

Precise.

Unexpected.

"What do you do for work?"

Gu Yi paused slightly.

"…Business."

"That's vague."

A beat.

Mingyun almost smiled.

Gu Yi exhaled quietly.

"…I invest. Build things. Fix problems."

Gu Xin considered that.

"Efficient."

A Small Breakthrough

After lunch—

Gu Lin handed him something.

A small device.

Finished.

"It works now."

Gu Yi examined it.

Turned it over slightly.

Then nodded.

"Yeah," he said.

"…it does."

A small pause.

Then—

"Good work."

Simple words.

But Gu Lin stilled for just a moment.

As if…

They hadn't expected that.

Something Subtle Changes

Later—

While Mingyun cleaned up—

She noticed something.

Gu Xin sitting beside Gu Yi.

Closer than before.

Gu Yan leaning lightly against him again.

And Gu Lin—

Still focused on their work—

But no longer distant.

The Moment That Lingers

As the afternoon faded—

Gu Yi stood to leave.

He didn't rush it this time.

Didn't hesitate either.

It felt… normal.

Then—

A small hand caught his sleeve.

Gu Yan.

"…You're coming tomorrow."

Not a question.

Gu Yi looked down at them.

Then nodded.

"Yeah."

As he stepped out—

Mingyun stood by the door, watching him go.

The children behind her.

Close.

Safe.

Happy.

For the first time in a long time—

Her chest didn't feel heavy.

It felt… steady.

But somewhere beyond that quiet moment—

Something was already moving.

Unseen.

Unnoticed.

And getting closer.
