Chapter 103 - The Mission Fulfilled

Scene 103 — "The Hunter's Mistake"

The Hunter moved first.

No warning.

No hesitation.

One moment it stood before the Traveler.

The next—

it was already inside his reach.

Both blades descended.

The Traveler shifted.

Too slow.

A black blade struck across his neck.

The impact threw him backward.

A thin line of blood darkened the collar of his cloak.

The black plain trembled.

The Hunter did not stop.

Its mission had existed longer than kingdoms.

Longer than memory.

Longer than history.

It had not crossed forgotten roads and dying worlds to make mistakes.

The tentacles descended.

One.

Two.

Three.

The Traveler dodged the first.

The second clipped his shoulder.

The third struck the ground beside him.

Darkness exploded outward.

The Traveler slid across the fractured plain.

His breathing became heavier.

The Hunter noticed.

A weakness.

A limit.

The Traveler rose.

Blood traced the edge of his neck.

His white hair drifted across the wound.

For several seconds neither moved.

The Hunter studied him.

The Traveler studied the Hunter.

Then the Hunter spoke.

"You bleed."

Silence.

"You tire."

Another step.

"You are not the one they feared."

The Traveler slowly lifted his head.

Something had changed.

Not the world.

Not the Hunter.

Him.

The calm expression remained.

Yet the stillness around him felt different.

Sharper.

Colder.

The Hunter charged.

The Traveler met it.

The collision shook the black plain.

A blade passed inches from his face.

The Traveler caught the Hunter's wrist.

Twisted.

Hard.

The sound echoed.

The Hunter's arm bent.

Not broken.

Forced aside.

The second blade came immediately.

The Traveler stepped inside the attack.

His fist struck the Hunter's chest.

The impact sent the massive creature backward.

Ten tentacles erupted behind it.

The battlefield shattered.

Fragments of darkness scattered into the void.

For the first time—

the Hunter was pushed back.

Its mask turned toward the Traveler.

Studying.

Recalculating.

The Traveler stood motionless.

Blood still marked his neck.

His breathing had become uneven.

Yet he continued forward.

One step.

Then another.

The Hunter attacked again.

The battle became a blur.

Blades.

Tentacles.

Impact.

Fragments of darkness exploding beneath every strike.

The Traveler fought with frightening efficiency.

No wasted motion.

No anger.

No battle cry.

Only survival.

A tentacle struck.

He caught it.

Twisted.

The massive limb slammed into another.

The Hunter lunged.

The Traveler drove an elbow into its jaw.

The mask cracked.

A thin fracture spread across its surface.

The Hunter staggered.

For the first time since the battle began.

Silence followed.

Brief.

Dangerous.

The Traveler stood in the center of the ruined plain.

Blood marked his cloak.

His shoulders rose and fell.

Once.

Twice.

The cost was becoming visible.

The Hunter noticed.

And understood.

A realization settled behind its cracked mask.

The Traveler was strong.

Far stronger than expected.

But he was exhausting himself.

Every movement carried weight.

Every strike cost something.

Whatever power slept within him—

it was not fully awake.

The Hunter slowly rose.

Its cracked mask faced him.

"You cannot continue."

The Traveler said nothing.

The Hunter lifted both blades.

The tentacles spread wide.

A forest of shadows behind its back.

Then it attacked.

Again.

And again.

And again.

The Traveler fought.

But each exchange grew harder.

His reactions slowed.

His breathing deepened.

The wound at his neck reopened.

The Hunter pressed relentlessly forward.

A blade struck his shoulder.

Another tore through his cloak.

A tentacle slammed him into the fractured ground.

The void cracked beneath him.

The Traveler rose.

The Hunter knocked him down again.

Rose.

Down again.

Rise.

Fall.

Rise.

Fall.

Until finally—

the Traveler dropped to one knee.

Silence.

The Hunter stood above him.

Two black blades pointed downward.

The mission.

After countless ages.

After endless searching.

The end stood before it.

The Traveler remained kneeling.

Breathing heavily.

Exhausted.

The Hunter slowly raised both weapons.

Victory.

At last.

The blades descended.

The black plain shook.

Darkness exploded outward.

When the storm settled—

the Traveler lay motionless.

The Hunter remained standing above him.

Silent.

Watching.

Waiting.

No movement came.

No resistance.

No miracle.

Nothing.

The mission was complete.

The Hooded Traveler was dead.

For a long time the Hunter simply stood there.

Centuries of purpose.

Finished.

Gone.

The void grew quiet.

Then—

something strange happened.

The Hunter looked down.

A single drop of blood rested upon one blade.

It should have fallen.

It should have vanished.

Instead—

it remained.

Suspended.

Motionless.

As though gravity had forgotten it existed.

The Hunter stared.

The drop did not move.

Did not dry.

Did not fall.

And within that crimson reflection—

the Hunter saw something impossible.

Not its own face.

Not the battlefield.

Not the Traveler.

A road.

Ancient.

Endless.

Waiting.

The Hunter became completely still.

Because it recognized that road.

And the road was looking back.
