Chapter 102 - The Hunter Beneath the Gate

Scene 102 — "The One Who Remembered the Mission"

The knock echoed a second time.

The fracture widened.

Ancient stone exploded outward.

Dust surged into the night.

The villagers screamed.

The old man stumbled backward.

The Keeper turned sharply toward the opening.

Even the masked figure beyond the ruins became still.

Something was emerging.

Not climbing.

Not crawling.

Rising.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

As though it already owned the darkness below.

Then—

a roar erupted from the depths.

The world shook.

Stone cracked.

Broken arches collapsed.

The hills trembled.

The roar carried no rage.

No hunger.

No madness.

Only purpose.

The old man's hands flew to his ears.

The villagers collapsed.

The Keeper lowered its head.

Even the second doorway shuddered.

Then a massive shape emerged from beneath the ruins.

Towering.

Black.

Ancient.

Ten enormous tentacles unfolded from its back.

Each one thicker than ancient trees.

Each one covered in scars.

They spread across the ruins like the limbs of some impossible creature.

The villagers looked tiny before it.

Insignificant.

The monster's head slowly lifted.

Moonlight touched its face.

A mask.

A white mask.

Different from the Traveler's.

Cracked.

Damaged.

Scarred by countless battles.

Two long blades rested in its hands.

Black.

Featureless.

Silent.

The old man's blood froze.

Not because of its appearance.

Because of what he felt.

Recognition.

The same feeling he had felt around the Traveler.

Only twisted.

Broken.

Wrong.

The Keeper whispered one word.

A word carrying genuine dread.

"Hunter."

The creature's head turned.

Slowly.

Toward the Traveler.

The ten tentacles became still.

The blades lowered.

The roar faded.

And then—

everything vanished.

The villagers.

Gone.

The old man.

Gone.

The Keeper.

Gone.

The impossible doorway.

Gone.

The ruined village.

Gone.

Even the moonlight disappeared.

Silence.

Absolute silence.

The Traveler stood alone.

A vast black plain stretched endlessly in every direction.

No sky.

No earth.

No horizon.

Only darkness.

And the Hunter.

The giant creature remained standing across from him.

Its tentacles slowly moving behind its back.

Like living shadows.

The Traveler looked around once.

Then returned his gaze to the Hunter.

No surprise.

No panic.

Only observation.

The Hunter watched him.

Motionless.

Then it spoke.

Its voice sounded like stone grinding together.

"You are alone."

The Traveler remained silent.

The Hunter took a single step forward.

The darkness beneath its feet fractured.

Not physically.

Conceptually.

As though reality disliked supporting its weight.

"You do not remember."

Another step.

"You do not know."

Another.

"You do not understand."

The two blades slowly rose.

The tentacles spread wider.

The Traveler remained calm.

"...Understand what?"

The Hunter stopped.

The mask stared directly at him.

Then came the answer.

Cold.

Precise.

Like a sentence repeated for centuries.

"My mission."

Silence.

The darkness stretched endlessly around them.

The Traveler's white hair drifted slightly.

Though no wind existed.

The Hunter continued.

"I searched."

A pause.

"Kingdoms."

Another.

"Worlds."

Another.

"Ages."

The blades lifted fully.

The tentacles twisted behind it.

The voice lowered.

"And now I have found you."

The Traveler studied the creature.

"...Who sent you?"

The Hunter became still.

The question seemed irrelevant to it.

Meaningless.

Its answer emerged immediately.

"No one."

The Traveler's eyes narrowed slightly.

For the first time.

The Hunter pointed one blade toward him.

"My mission began before masters."

The second blade rose.

"Before kingdoms."

The tentacles trembled.

"Before memory."

The darkness around them shuddered.

Then the Hunter spoke the sentence that had survived countless forgotten ages.

The sentence that had outlived civilizations.

The sentence carved into its existence.

"Find the Hooded Traveler."

A pause.

The mask stared directly into the Traveler's eyes.

Then—

"Kill him."

The tentacles exploded outward.

The black plain shattered.

And the Hunter moved.

Fast.

Far too fast.

The Traveler shifted.

One blade missed his throat by the width of a finger.

The second blade struck his side.

A deep slash opened across his cloak.

The Traveler slid backward.

The Hunter never stopped.

The tentacles descended like falling towers.

The Traveler avoided the first.

The second.

The third.

The fourth.

The ground beneath him exploded.

Fragments of darkness scattered across the void.

The Hunter pressed forward relentlessly.

No speeches.

No anger.

No hesitation.

Only execution.

The Traveler realized something immediately.

This was different.

The Hunter was not testing him.

Not threatening him.

Not playing with him.

It fully intended to complete its mission.

And for the first time since the road began—

the Traveler found himself being driven backward.

The Hunter raised both blades.

The tentacles surrounded the battlefield.

A cage.

A trap.

An execution ground.

Then the creature spoke.

For the first time—

with certainty.

"You are weaker than expected."

And somewhere far away—

something unseen began paying attention.
