Chapter 8 - Chapter 08

Time continued to pass, as those who played the game and those who refused still shared the same general area after all. They were not always online, as they could stay online for as long as they wanted without anyone who could stop them, unless they were allowed to do so. The choice to play the game too much was just as much of a choice to not play the game at all, as that was also considered a player choice that Kyantech had given them.

As time continued to pass, there were numerous things that some players started noticing that seemed off. Everyone who played the game even once knew that there was a timer that was clocking their total hours. However, what they did not realize was that the timer was not just for the game alone, as the timer also existed when they were offline and not playing the game as well. As what they thought, the time was really just another timer that was clocking their total hours; they were not playing the game as well. This was something that was hard to notice, then the in game timer, as that was always visible from their status screen, as they could see it running constantly from there. However, the timer for when they were not playing the game was the hard one to notice, as it was the clock within their personal room. It was the only clock that was present within this whole area as well. Ten thousand and nine personal clocks for each player, each telling a different time. At first, they were told it was because they were all from different time zones, and that, while they were all in the same space, that they were being given a personal clock that matched with their own time zone to keep them aligned with it. The developers were not sure how long the beta test would last, and thus did not want to throw off their sense of time for that long.

This is where some of those who made it to the final screening before being allowed to become an official beta tester walked away. It was one of the many reasons that many did walk away from this, as that did seem weird that there would be ten thousand and nine different clocks for every player, set to their own personal time zone. Rather than everyone just being made to go by the actual time zone they would be in at that point. It was here that there were players who noticed that was how they were gotten, as they were told the beta test for each player would start at 00:00, and then continue from there, with another timer starting from 00:00 in the game itself. That is where some players realized something Kynatech had once again used their own expectations against them, as they were not lied to, but what they assumed and what was going on were two different things once again. The beta test did start at 00:00; however, while everyone just assumed that was military time because they all started when it was considered midnight for them. Kynatech never said that themselves, they merely stated that the beta test's timer would start 00:00, and the game's at 00:00. The difference between the two is that a player's personal timer only ran for whatever place they were in. If they were in The Decagon, then that timer was running, and if they were offline, then that one was running, and there was a chilling part that proved this. The offline timer had two lines to it, one that was the overall time, and the other that was the current 'time' according to their time zone. How was this the chilling point? Well, that first line never showed the same time regardless of who it was, as even players from the same time zone show different overall times for their offline clock. The thing that disturbed the players who noticed this the most is that the overall time was the exact amount of time they had not been playing the game.

Another thing that certain players have noticed over time is that there are some that they have never seen eating anything at all. Ever since they had come here, the food was served to them directly from the room service feature that each room had access to. They had to order their food this way, and they could order anything they wanted at all. By anything, that was exactly what was allowed, as anything and everything they could think of could be requested without limit or exception. The food or dish did not matter, as if they could think it up, then it could be ordered and sent directly to their door within the allowed time it took to make it. That seemed off to many players now that they were experiencing it firsthand, which did not when they were told how food would be handled. Thinking at the time that trillion dollar company like Kynatech, run by a trillionaire, could afford anything and everything that exists as food already. At the very least, everything that any of them could possibly think that is. However, that is where the issue came up when, in practice, as they were told this, and there were some players that were put this to the test, as they were ordered things that should no longer exist anymore and actually got it. Then, because a player had to choose to take their food to a common dining area themselves, there were beta testers who never saw other players even eating anything since being here. Not one thing, since everything started at all, had some people consumed since being here. That should, by all means, be impossible, as they were there long enough that anyone would have needed to eat something. This was tested by them to see if it was just in their head, as maybe the players were eating in their rooms, but that turned out to not to be the case. They used themselves as the test subjects to prove it was possible, as a group of them would go without eating and see that it was possible to do so, as they only felt hungry when they wanted to eat.
