Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The Next Day — University Entrance

Son walks through the university gates and spots his crew waiting.

"Leo, George, Johnny, Gowin — what's up."

"Bro, you're late," Leo says. "First lecture is about to start."

"Let's go then. But hold on — Gowin, Johnny, why'd y'all wait for me? You're in a different college wing."

Gowin shrugs.

"Because you're the one who said we stick together. If Moster is out here picking people off, we're not giving him a solo target. Any of us."

Son nods slowly.

"Smart. Good call. Aight — George, let's move."

"Coming, coming."

"Later," Son, Leo and George say, heading off.

"Later," Gowin and Johnny echo.

Gowin glances at the doors.

"Come on, let's get in."

"Let's go."

After The Lecture — The Bathroom

Gowin stands at the sink, washing her hands. She shakes them dry and turns to leave —

She glances at the mirror one last time.

Moster is standing directly behind her.

"What the—"

She spins around.

Nothing. Empty bathroom. Every stall open.

She stares at the space where he was for a long second.

Then heads for the door —

Gina is standing right there in the doorway.

Gowin stumbles back with a scream.

"WHAT—"

"What is WRONG with you?" Gina stares at her. "Relax, you crazy b*tch."

Gowin catches her breath, jaw tight.

"Go to hell, Gina."

She pushes past her out the door.

Gina watches her go, shaking her head with a smirk.

"What is her problem..." She turns to the hallway, loud enough for anyone passing to hear. "And get a load of this — she's walking around with four guys and she's the only girl. Only one thing that means, right?"

She laughs to herself.

A shadow falls over her from behind.

A voice. Low. Calm.

"...Didn't anybody ever teach you not to talk about people like that?"

Gina freezes.

She turns around slowly.

Moster stands behind her, head slightly tilted, red light glowing through the mask.

"What the—"

His blade draws across her throat in one clean motion.

Blood pours from the wound, from her mouth, soaking the front of her shirt instantly.

Before she can fall he drives the knife into her chest.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Four.

Five.

Gina's screams come out as nothing — wet, broken sounds that don't carry past the hallway.

He drives the blade through the side of her skull, drags it out slow.

Blood from her mouth. Her ears.

She drops.

Moster crouches over her. Lifts the lower half of his mask.

He tears into her chest. Pulls the heart free. Chews through it slowly, deliberately — and swallows.

He drops what's left of her to the floor.

Stands.

Disappears.

The Bathroom — Shortly After

A girl pushes open the bathroom door —

And screams.

The Scene — Police, Paramedics, Investigators

The hallway outside Is packed. Yellow tape. Radios crackling. Investigators crouched over the body.

One of them stands and shakes his head.

"She's gone. Injuries are severe — way beyond anything I've seen."

A doctor steps forward.

"There's something else. We checked the body thoroughly." He pauses. "Her heart Is missing. It wasn't removed surgically. It was… eaten."

The lead detective stares at him.

"...Come again?"

Son, Gowin, Leo, George and Johnny push through the crowd and stop dead at the sight.

"Oh my God," George breathes. "This is horrific."

Gowin looks at the body for a long moment.

"...Not for me It isn't." She exhales slowly. "Honestly? I feel relieved."

Everyone turns and looks at her.

"What?" she says flatly. "She's the reason I got called that name every single day."

Nobody argues.

"That's Moster," Son says quietly, eyes still on the scene. "Has to be."

"Nobody else does it like this," Johnny agrees.

The lead detective turns toward them.

"Hey — Gen Z."

Son looks up.

"You kids know something about this?"

"We know the killer's name and what he wears," Son says. "But we don't know who he actually is underneath."

The detective opens his mouth —

An officer bursts through the doors behind them.

"Detective — we've got someone cornered. Red outfit. Carrying a blade. Library, right now."

"That's Moster," George says immediately.

Everyone runs.

The Library

Police have the library surrounded. Moster stands in the center of the room, completely still, officers with weapons drawn on every side.

"DROP the knife!" an officer shouts. "Drop It RIGHT NOW and get on the ground — slow!"

Moster looks down at the blade in his hand.

Then slowly reaches up — and puts his mask back on.

He disappears.

Reappears directly behind the nearest officer and drives the knife into his back.

The officer drops.

"WHAT THE—"

A second officer opens fire —

Moster vanishes. Appears beside him. Slides the blade between his eyes. Drags it out. Draws It across his throat in one motion.

A third officer empties his weapon at Moster —

Moster disappears. Steps out directly in front of him.

Stabs him once.

Twice.

Ten times.

Twenty.

Thirty.

He reaches down, takes the officer's gun from his hand, presses It to his head.

Pulls the trigger.

Gone.

Moments Later

Son and the group step inside with the detective.

Every officer on the floor. Blood on every surface.

The detective stands in the doorway and can't move.

"He did all of this..." His voice is barely above a whisper. "How? How did he do all of this?"

Leo stares at the bodies around him, jaw tight.

"...Damn him. God damn him."

The Next Day — A Coffee Shop

The five of them sit around a table, cups In front of them, the weight of everything hanging in the air.

"How do we even catch Moster?" George says. "He's fast. He disappears. There's no pattern."

"I don't know," Son admits.

"What if we let him come to us," Leo says, leaning forward. "When he shows up to grab one of us — we surround him. Stab him. Shoot him if we have to."

Johnny stares at him.

"Bro. You want five teenagers to corner a monster that killed three armed cops one after another like It was nothing?"

"There were only three of them—"

"Leo."

Gowin turns to Son.

"You thought of anything yet, Son?"

Son shakes his head slowly.

"I can't think straight. My dad is gone. People are dying around us."

"Hey." Leo puts a hand on his shoulder. "Don't spiral. We're gonna get him. We're gonna pull that mask off his face and we're gonna end him."

"I hope so," Son says quietly.

A guy walks past their table. Tall. Gowin's eyes follow him.

"Guys — look at him. He's tall, right? George, didn't you say Moster was tall?"

"Yeah," George says.

"Yeah, like 6 feet easy," Johnny adds.

"He's just some guy," Son says.

Leo is already on his feet.

"HEY. Yeah YOU — tall guy."

The guy stops. Turns around slowly.

"...Who are you calling that, freak?"

"Are you Moster?"

The guy stares at Leo for a long moment.

"Who the hell is Moster? Are you out of your mind?"

He walks away shaking his head.

George bursts out laughing.

"You just embarrassed yourself for absolutely no reason."

"I don't care," Leo mutters, dropping back into his seat.

That Night — Leo's House

Leo pushes through the front door.

"I'm home — Mom? Dad?"

Silence. Empty house.

"Must've gone out somewhere."

He drops onto the couch, grabs the remote, and flicks on the TV.

A kids' game show fills the screen. Bright lights, a host sitting among a group of children, cheesy music.

Leo sinks into the cushions.

"Ugh. I'm exhausted. What even is this..."

The host smiles at the camera.

"This question is worth twenty dollars — first one to answer wins! Here we go:"

"Easy money," Leo mutters. "Give it to me."

"Where are the Himalayan mountains located?"

"Asia. Obviously."

"The answer is Asia! Whoever sent that In first wins the twenty dollars! Great job!" The host claps. "Okay — question two is worth fifty dollars. Big money, but this one is tough—"

"I'm in college," Leo says to no one. "There Is no question I can't answer."

The host pauses.

Tilts her head.

Looks directly into the camera.

"...Are you alone, Leo?"

Leo goes still.

"...What?"

"Are you alone, Leo?"

The voice has changed. Something wrong with it. Too low. Too slow.

Leo stands up slowly.

"What is this—"

"Don't try to run, Leo."

The voice drops into something that doesn't sound human anymore.

"I'll ask one more time."

"Are you alone?"

Leo bolts for the front door —

He hits the brakes.

In the door mirror — a shadow standing right behind him. Red eyes. One arm raised. A blade in its hand, already moving forward.

Leo SCREAMS —

And throws himself out the front door, running hard into the night.
