Chapter 2 - When Fear Returns

The valley was no longer silent.

At least, not for Amir.

Even after the lion had disappeared into the tall grass, something inside him refused to calm down. His heart was still racing, his thoughts still loud.

"What just happened…?" he whispered.

He looked around again, but this time, everything felt different.

The same valley. The same grass. The same fading light.

But now… it felt alive.

Watching.

Amir took a slow step forward.

Then another.

Every movement felt heavier than before, as if the ground itself was holding him back.

"You're safe," he told himself. "It's gone."

But deep inside, he wasn't sure.

The memory of the lion's eyes stayed with him—sharp, calm, and powerful. It hadn't attacked… but it could have.

And that thought was enough.

A sudden rustle came from the grass.

Amir froze.

Again.

This time, his body reacted faster. His breath shortened. His muscles tightened.

"Not again…" he murmured.

The grass moved.

Once.

Twice.

Then—

Another lion stepped out.

But this one was different.

Its posture was tense. Its eyes were not calm.

They were aggressive.

Amir's heart dropped.

"No…"

The lion let out a low, warning growl.

This was not the same moment as before.

This was danger.

Real danger.

Every instinct inside Amir screamed louder than ever:

"RUN!"

His foot shifted slightly.

Just one small movement.

But it was enough.

The lion reacted instantly—stepping forward, faster now.

Amir's breath broke.

Fear rushed back… stronger than before.

His mind filled with panic.

"This is it… I have to run!"

But then—

A memory.

The first lion.

The silence.

The stillness.

The choice.

Amir closed his eyes for a brief second.

"No…"

He opened them again.

And stood still.

Completely still.

The lion stopped.

Just like before.

But this time, the tension didn't disappear.

It grew.

The air felt heavier.

The space between them felt smaller.

Amir could hear his own heartbeat.

Loud. Fast. Uncontrolled.

But he didn't move.

Not again.

Not this time.

The lion stared at him, its body ready to strike.

Seconds passed.

Or maybe minutes.

Amir didn't know anymore.

All he knew was this:

Fear had returned.

Stronger.

Sharper.

More dangerous.

And this time…

It wasn't going away so easily.
