Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Intersection of Fate and Fury

The bridge was a graveyard of memories, the asphalt still scarred from the night the Wei family "bought" Ning's loyalty. She stood in the center of the span, her hospital gown fluttering like a white flag of surrender to madness. Her feet were shredded, leaving crimson blossoms on the cold pavement, but the physical pain was a dull hum compared to the extreme level of jealousy vibrating in her chest. "They took you from me here!" she screamed at the sky, her voice hoarse from hours of extreme cryingness. She imagined Wei Chen's face appearing in the fog, mocking her with his "heroism." The misunderstanding was a thick, suffocating mist; she saw every passerby as a spy, every siren as a cage coming to return her to the sterile white room. Suddenly, a dark figure emerged from the shadows of the support pillars. It was Xuan, his hospital uniform torn, his knuckles raw and weeping blood. He looked like a fallen god, his eyes burning with a possessiveness that could set the river below on fire. For a heartbeat, they stood frozen, two ghosts haunting the site of their undoing. The extreme level of their lovingness was a physical force, pulling them together across the concrete. "You came," Xuan rasped, his voice breaking with a misery so deep it felt like a tectonic shift. He didn't open his arms; he stepped forward and gripped her shoulders with a terrifying intensity, checking every inch of her for a mark that wasn't his. "Did he touch you? Did the 'hero' put his hands on you while I was rotting in that cell?" Ning collapsed against him, her sobbing so violent it shook them both. "I ran through the glass for you! I crawled through the dark!" she wailed, her fingers digging into his back. The misunderstanding of the world—that they were toxic, that they were broken—disappeared in the heat of their collision. They were a closed circuit of obsession, a fire that consumed everything it touched.
