Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – The Hidden Court

The days of training had hardened Kasim. His body carried scars, his mind carried lessons, and his spirit carried fire. Yet Arjun knew the boy's true test would not be in the courtyard, but in the world beyond its walls.

Lumora was not only a land of moonlight and silence. It was a land of whispers. Behind the palace gates, in chambers lit by golden lamps, the Hidden Court ruled in shadows. Nobles spoke with smiles but carried daggers in their words. Secrets were traded like gold, and betrayal was the coin of power.

Arjun led Kasim through the narrow streets one evening. The city was alive — merchants shouting, guards marching, beggars crying. But beneath the noise, there was tension. Every eye seemed to watch, every shadow seemed to move.

"Kasim," Arjun said, his voice low, "tonight you will see the truth of Lumora. Not the stories in scrolls, not the lessons of the blade. You will see the court."

The boy's heart raced. He had dreamed of palaces, of kings, of power. But now, as the gates opened, he felt the weight of destiny pressing on his shoulders.

Inside, the court was dazzling. Marble floors, jeweled walls, silken banners. Yet the beauty was only a mask. Arjun's eyes never softened. He knew what lay beneath.

The nobles greeted them with smiles. "Arjun Rao," one said, his voice smooth. "And this… boy?"

"My apprentice," Arjun replied. His tone was sharp, leaving no room for insult.

Kasim bowed, but his gaze was steady. He felt their eyes on him — measuring, judging, doubting. He did not flinch.

The court spoke of trade, of war, of alliances. But Kasim saw more. He saw the way hands tightened when names were spoken. He saw the way eyes flickered when secrets were hinted. He saw the way power moved — not in swords, but in whispers.

One noble, tall and dressed in crimson, stepped forward. His smile was thin. "A boy as apprentice? Arjun, have you grown weak?"

Kasim's chest tightened. He wanted to speak, but Arjun raised a hand. "Weakness is in those who hide behind words," Arjun said calmly. "Strength is in those who face the world."

The noble's smile faded. He leaned closer to Kasim. "Tell me, boy. Do you think you belong here?"

Kasim's heart pounded. He remembered Arjun's words: Do not waste thought. Do not waste motion. He lifted his head. "I belong where truth is spoken. If this court fears truth, then I belong more than you."

The chamber fell silent. The noble's face darkened, but he did not reply. Arjun's eyes glimmered with pride.

Later, as they left the chamber, Kasim turned to Arjun. "They smile, but they are dangerous."

Arjun nodded. "You see clearly. That is why you will survive. Remember this: the blade can cut flesh, but words can cut empires."

That night, under the moonlight, Kasim sat alone. He thought of the nobles, of their hidden daggers, of their false smiles. He thought of the path before him. He was no longer just a boy with a blade. He was an apprentice walking into shadows.

The moonlight touched his face, and he whispered to himself, "I will be remembered."

And in those shadows, legends were born.
